Fault detection in UAVs: a multiclass Black-box classification approach
Cátedra ENIA IA3. Documento de trabajoThis paper addresses the challenge of Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
(UAVs) through a supervised multiclass classification framework using the RflyMAD dataset.
Deviating from traditional time-series analysis, we propose a static approach where instantaneous
flight telemetry is treated as independent observations, hypothesising that a single snapshot of the
system’s state holds sufficient discriminative power to identify health status. We employ a Blackbox
modelling strategy, specifically a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), to capture complex, non-linear
dependencies within the sensor data. The study involves a rigorous data processing pipeline, transforming
heterogeneous records from Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and
Real flights into a unified tabular structure. We further investigate the impact of dimensionality reduction
via Principal Component Analysis (PCA) on model performance. Our results demonstrate
that the Black-box approach, particularly when augmented with PCA-compressed features, achieves
superior classification accuracy compared to traditional methods, effectively isolating eleven distinct
fault types despite significant class imbalance
Sex differences in the acute effects of early partial and total sleep deprivation on strength, power and endurance performance in resistance-trained participants
17 p.Background: Sleep is essential for athletic performance, yet the specific effects of sleep deprivation are not well defined. Evidence in resistance-trained populations is limited regarding sex-specific responses and velocity-based performance across different loads. Purpose: This study examined sex differences in the impact of total (0 h) and partial (4 h) sleep deprivation versus normal sleep (8 h) on strength, power, and endurance performance in resistance-trained individuals. Methods: Twenty-four resistance-trained participants (male/female, 12/12; age: 22 ± 3 years) completed a randomized, cross-over, counterbalanced trial including one baseline control night (8 h at home sleep) and three experimental conditions in the laboratory: (a) 8 h sleep (NS), (b) 4 h sleep (ESD), (c) 0 h sleep (SD). Strength was assessed at 25%, 50%, 75%, 90% and 100% 1RM for bench press and back squat (half-squat depth, ~90? knee flexion), in a Smith machine, followed by a muscular endurance test at 65% 1RM (set-to-failure). Isometric strength and vertical jump test were also performed. Results: At 50% 1RM, significant sleep and sleep-by-sex effects were observed for Vmean in both exercise (p 0.09), an effect only noted in males, with reduced performance under ESD and SD compared to NS (7?13%, p 0.50). In the muscular endurance test, sleep and sleep-by-sex effects were found (p 0.2). Conclusions: Total and partial sleep deprivation impairs muscular performance differently by sex. Males experienced reduced strength at moderate loads, while females showed declines in muscular endurance
Main rooms and coffered ceilings as definers of a noble palace model in renaissance Spain: the case study of the palace of Peñaranda de Duero, Spain
The palace of the Counts of Miranda in Peñaranda de Duero (Burgos) is one of the main palatial works of the Spanish Renaissance of 16th century Castilian nobility. Here we find a harmonious coexistence between the Gothic and Hispano-Islamic traditions and the emerging Renaissance trends. Previous studies have highlighted that the Renaissance in the Iberian Peninsula has not been adequately valued due to its hybrid nature. Studying works such as this one aim to deepen the understanding of the evolution of this architectural model in its passage from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The methodology has consisted of studying the architecture and its decorations from a morphological, geometric and decorative point of view and comparing them with those of other palaces of the time. For this purpose, drawings of its characteristic elements have been made from a 3D laser scanning and automated photogrammetry survey. Among these the coffered ceilings stand out because they define the typology from its roots. The visual and spatial hybridization present in this palace is the result of the confluence of a system of organization of guilds and construction, the previous existence of a repertoire construction techniques and decorative resources and the connection with humanistic ideas
Biodiversity conservation for climate adaptive forest restoration and reforestation
47 p.In almost all European forests, land use history is deeply embedded with a variety of effects on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Forest biodiversity is one of the six sustainability criteria in the Pan-European region. Forest management plays a crucial role in affecting vegetation diversity and the distribution of plant species in forest communities. These aspects need to be considered at all stages of forest management, from species selection to nursery cultivation of the plant material and on-site management across the developmental stages of the forest. Since the management (e.g., non-native tree plantations, salvage logging vs. no intervention) can cause spatial and microclimatic changes on a local scale, the outcome could be intensified effects of climate change in the landscape. Therefore, understanding the drivers and mechanisms behind forest biodiversity patterns is crucial for mitigating biodiversity loss from the local to the European level. For this reason, the present chapter focuses on underlining the key points of biodiversity, both regarding its role in ecosystems and the theoretical framework developed for defining and analyzing biodiversity. Furthermore, the chapter focuses on the impact of forest management activities on biodiversity in the forest ecosystems
Short-term wind power forecasting integrating wake effect modeling with variational mode decomposition enhanced deep learning architectures
This work presents a robust hybrid framework for short-term wind power forecasting, validated on the GECAMA wind farm in Spain, which comprises 69 turbines and has a nominal capacity exceeding 300 MW. The proposed approach combines three established physics-based wake models (Jensen, Bastankhah, Larsen) with five deep learning methods, further enhanced by input preprocessing via variational mode decomposition. Hourly energy production is forecasted using wind data from ECMWF, AROME, and ICON EU meteorological databases. Including wake models as input features helps reduce bias from meteorological signals by accounting for available wind turbines and physical effects, such as wake interactions and terrain. Adding previous forecast errors as features further boosts short-term accuracy. The hybrid models achieve error reductions of 40%-50% for one-hour-ahead forecasts, tapering to 1%-10% by 24 h. With variational mode decomposition (VMD), improvements reach 74%-77% for 3-6 h horizons and about 8% at 36 h. Across all horizons, VMD-enhanced models consistently outperform both standard hybrids and pure physical models. These results show that integrating wake modeling, deep learning, and advanced preprocessing is a practical way to improve wind power forecasts and support reliable electricity market decisions
A rarely seen event: the 1985 trial to the juntas and its audiovisual representations in the 21st Century
The 1985 Trial of the Juntas, in which Argentina’s recently reinstated democracy prosecuted the military leaders who seized power between 1976 and 1983, was an unprecedented event in the context of Latin America’s democratic recovery. Despite its uniqueness, this event has been barely represented in Argentina’s audiovisual landscape. Thus, we describe the Trial as a “rarely seen” event—not only due to its lack of precedents in the legal and institutional spheres but also because of the sparse and belated instances of its depiction in film and television. This article seeks to explore the reasons behind this limited audiovisual representation within the broader context of 40 years of uninterrupted democracy in Argentina. The analysis centers on the 2023 film directed by Santiago Mitre, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best International Feature, against the backdrop of a presidential election in Argentina where, for the first time, a leading candidate openly questioned the democratic consensus established in the post-dictatorship era
In Spain, as of 2022, at least 28,552 individuals were experiencing homelessness—the most
extreme manifestation of poverty and social exclusion. Within this population, women
experiencing homelessness have specific characteristics and experiences shaped by their
gender. However, information on people experiencing homelessness in the city of Madrid, and
particularly on women, is limited. The present work examines the situation, needs, and life
trajectories of 355 individuals experiencing homelessness (148 women and 207 men), who were
either sleeping outdoors or staying in shelters and similar facilities. In addition, it includes a
subsample of 37 women living in more specialized programs based on various intervention
models (e.g., Housing First, No Second Night). This work presents the results regarding the entire
sample of people experiencing homelessness, as well as gender-based comparisons, with the
aim of analyzing the specific realities of men and women. It covers several domains, including
homelessness history, health, and stressful life events, with special attention to three underresearched areas in the Spanish context: stigma, intersectional discrimination, and mental
health; in light of the high prevalence of potentially traumatic experiences among people
experiencing homelessness, and especially among women

Voter turnout and distance to polling stations. Does distance to polling stations influence voter abstention?
This study explores the relationship between the distance that people have to travel to their polling station to exercise their right to vote and the number of people who abstain from exercising this right. Using databases and geographic information systems to perform distance metrics, network analysis, cartography, and various programming languages for statistical analysis, the results found that, in general terms, there is no statistically significant relationship between the two variables, except for a weak negative correlation for Manhattan distance. These results do not take into account factors that may mitigate the effect of distance.Máster Universitario en Tecnologías de la Información Geográfica (M150
