Oil Spill Detection Using Optical Sensors: A Multi-Temporal Approach
Oil pollution is one of the most destructive consequences due to human activities in the marine environment. Oil wastes come from many sources and take decades to be disposed of. Satellite based remote sensing systems can be implemented into a surveillance and monitoring network. In this study, a multi-temporal approach to the oil spill detection problem is investigated. Change Detection (CD) analysis was applied to MODIS/Terra and Aqua and OLI/Landsat 8 images of several reported oil spill events, characterized by different geographic location, sea conditions, source and extension of the spill. Toward the development of an automatic detection algorithm, a Change Vector Analysis (CVA) technique was implemented to carry out the comparison between the current image of the area of interest and a dataset of reference image, statistically analyzed to reduce the sea spectral variability between different dates. The proposed approach highlights the optical sensors’ capabilities in detecting oil spills at sea. The effectiveness of different sensors’ resolution towards the detection of spills of different size, and the relevance of the sensors’ revisiting time to track and monitor the evolution of the event is also investigated
Method of Genetic Disease Gene Locus Analysis Based on Apriori Algorithm
Many phenotypic traits of the human body and their susceptibility to drugs and diseases may be associated with some genetic loci or associated with genes that contain multiple loci. Whole genome association analysis (GWAS) is a hot spot in the analysis of genetic disease loci. In this paper, a Apriori algorithm based on Apriori algorithm is proposed for the analysis of genetic disease loci in genetic diseases. The experimental results show that the algorithm can effectively find the genetic disease gene loci
Information retrieval in two-tier VANET/P2P using RSU as a superpeer
Since traffic is increasing considerably day by day so information exchange for vehicular environment is very important to increase safety and to provide proper guidance of road side services available to driver during journey. Because of increased attraction towards Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) services it is required to design a system which can retrieve information very efficiently. A two-tier VANET/P2P system is basically the integration of two different type of services which are used for information exchange. Low-tier vehicular Ad-hoc networks (VANETs) can be used for achieving low lookup latency whereas high-tier infrastructure based Peer-to-Peer (P2P) can be used for increasing lookup success rate. In proposed protocol distance based reachability has been used. Reachability reduces lookup latency while maintaining moderate lookup success rate. Parameters for proposed adaptive lookup two-tier mechanism have been compared with the conventional two-tier lookup mechanism using Network Simulator (NS 2.34).
Assessment of the Effect of Hydrolysed Starch Graft Copolymers Application on Soil Nutrient (Phosphorus and Nitrogen) Retention
AbstractThe effects of the application of the graft copolymers (Hydrolyzed starch-g-polyacrylonitrile (HSPAN) and Hydrolyzed starch-g-polyacrylic acid (HSPAA)) on the nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) retention capacity of soil was evaluated in this study. Soil nutrient (N and P) retention capacity tests was carried out at three graft copolymers application rates (3.0, 6.0, and 9.0g/kg soil) against a blank soil sample to which graft copolymers was not applied. Diammonium phosphate (DAP) at 0, 100, and 200mg in aqueous solution/kg soil were applied in triplicates. The soil samples were mixed thoroughly and allowed to air-dry. The residual N and P contents of the soil samples were determined and reported as the amounts of nutrients retained as a function of the graft copolymer and DAP application rates. The result of this study has clearly demonstrated the potential of the graft copolymers to alleviate problems related to nutrient loss from the soil media. Leaching of nutrients (N and P) in soil has been found to be reduced to minimal (0.46%N, and 1.13%P) with the application of hydrolyzed graft copolymer and the nutrients are thus available to plant for growth by suction pressure difference
Photovoltaic power generation system
The potential crisis of energy and the deterioration of ecological environment make the world's cumbersomedevelopment of renewable energy including new energy, including solar energy. Traditional energy in the coal, oil andnatural gas are evolved from ancient fossils, it is collectively referred to as fossil fuels. As the world's energy needscontinue to increase, fossil fuels will also be depleted, it is necessary to fi nd a new energy to replace the traditionalenergy. Solar energy is a clean renewable energy with mineral energy incomparable superiority. Modern society shouldbe a conservation-oriented society, and social life should also be a life-saving energy. At the same time, Premier WenJiabao also proposed on June 30, 2005 and stressed the need to speed up the construction of a conservation-orientedsociety. And solar energy as an inexhaustible new environmentally friendly energy has become the world's energyresearch work in the world an important issue. Is the world in the economic situation to take a simpler, economical, environmentally friendly and reliable building heating and heating energy-saving measures. This paper summarizes thecurrent global energy status, indicating the importance of solar power and prospects. Details of the various solar powergeneration methods and their advantages, and made a comparison of this power generation parameters. At the sametime pointed out that the diffi culties faced by solar power and solutions, as well as China's solar power of the favorableconditions and diffi culties. The future of China's solar energy made a prospect
Efficient NO Photodegradation of Hydrothermally Synthesized TiO2 Nanotubes under Visible Light
In this study, TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) were synthesized via a hydrothermal process and characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) images, selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern, and photoluminescence (PL) analysis. The NO removal photocatalytic activity of the hydrothermally synthesizedTNTs was surveyed systematically. The hydrothermally synthesizedTNTs have shown an efficient NO photodegradation which is approximately 4 times higher than that of P25 and an excellent photostability under visible light after 5 cycles. Furthermore, reactive radicals mainly involved in the photocatalytic reaction were identified by electron spin resonance (ESR) study, leading to a better understanding of the photocatalytic mechanism of the hydrothermally synthesized TNTs.
Death of an elephant
Old and new books of fiction are abundantly visible on checkout counters, public libraries, and bookstores in shopping malls and on the Internet. They usually deal with mystery, romance, and sellable thrills of life. That explains the conspicuous invisibility of Death of an Elephant. It’s a novella, self-published by a serious academic. Brij Mohan's debut in the reality-based realm of fiction mocks at the ‘absurdities’ of life in an otherwise progressive, happy, and affluent world
Climate of early Martian surface and loss of water – A review
Mars is one of the interesting planets for geoscientists to explore the presence of water on the surface of terrestrial planets. The age, geology and geomorphic processes of Mars are almost similar to Earth surface processes. However, earth as tremendous influence of tectonism. The Martian surface once it was flourishing with water flow and formations of fluvial channels, lakes, deltas and oceans. The planet Mars evolved through ages with different climatic conditions from warm wetter period to cold drier period. In the present paper, different climatic condition and the reasons for escape of water from surface of Mars are discussed with help of review work
Study of Formation of Oxide Nanostructures on the Surface of Radiation-oxidated Aluminum
Reflection IR spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AGM), and electrophysical measurements were used to investigate the formation of surface oxide nanostructures during the radiation oxidation of metallic aluminum in contact with water. It is revealed that the radiation modification of the surface relief is accompanied by the formation of oxide nanolayers, the defectiveness of which is determined by the irradiation time. It is shown that the formation of oxide nanolayers in the region of absorbed dose (0.5-120 kGy) occurs in three stages, which is accompanied by a decrease in electrical conductivity by 5 orders and an increase in the thickness of the oxide layer by an order of magnitude. The role of surface intermediate-active particles in the formation of oxide nanostructures is considered
Design of broadband metamaterial-based ferromagnetic absorber
In this paper, a metamaterial-based ferromagnetic absorber has been designed at microwave frequencies. The proposed absorber is composed of a periodic array of stacked circular ferromagnetic patches fabricated on the FR4 substrate. With the ferromagnetic property, the single-layer patch array generates a good resonant absorption mode. By stacking multiple ferromagnetic patches, the designed absorber with the absorption above 90% has a wide absorption bandwidth from 10 to 21 GHz. Due to the symmetric structure, the proposed absorber is polarization insensitive. At oblique incident with the incident angle of 45o, the good absorption more than 80% can be achieved in the whole operation band
