CDK1 couples proliferation with protein synthesis [Repository Tables R1-R4]

    No full text
Cell proliferation exerts a high demand on protein synthesis, yet the mechanisms coupling the two processes are not fully understood. A kinase and phosphatase screen for activators of translation, based on the formation of stress granules in human cells, revealed cell cycle-associated kinases as major candidates. CDK1 was identified as a positive regulator of global translation, and cell synchronization experiments showed that this is an extra-mitotic function of CDK1. Different pathways including eIF2α, 4EBP1 and S6K1 signaling contribute to controlling global translation downstream of CDK1. Moreover, Ribo-Seq analysis uncovered that CDK1 exerts a particularly strong effect on the translation of 5’TOP mRNAs, which includes mRNAs encoding for ribosomal proteins and several translation factors. This effect requires the 5’TOP mRNA-binding protein LARP1, concurrent to our finding that LARP1 phosphorylation is strongly dependent on CDK1. Thus, CDK1 provides a direct means to couple cell proliferation with biosynthesis of the translation machinery and the rate of protein synthesis

Savage vs. Anscombe-Aumann: an experimental investigation of ambiguity frameworks [Dataset]

    No full text
The Savage and the Anscombe–Aumann frameworks are the two most popular approaches used when modeling ambiguity. The former is more flexible, but the latter is often preferred for its simplicity. We conduct an experiment where subjects place bets on the joint outcome of an ambiguous urn and a fair coin. We document that more than a third of our subjects make choices that are incompatible with Anscombe–Aumann for any preferences, while the Savage framework is flexible enough to account for subjects’ behaviors

OwnReality. To Each His Own Reality [Research Data]

    No full text
These data are constitutif of a base gathering the sources and results of the research project "OwnReality. To Each His Own Reality. The notion of the real in the fine arts of France, West Germany, East Germany and Poland between 1960 and 1989" conducted from 2011 to 2017. The main focus of the project was the idea of identifying and reconstructing the relationships between those actively involved with art events at the time {artists, curators, art critics, art historians, etc.), apart from what can be identified as common memberships or meetings during exhibitions and congresses. It was therefore of interest how and when the idea of "reality" was discussed east and west of the Iron Curtain in the later phase of the Cold War. The project deals with the diverse viewpoints and at the same time represents the different readings of the researchers within the project team. The results were published as articles, case studies, interviews and as searchable database embedded at the website of the DFK Paris (https://dfk-paris.org/en/page/ownrealitydatabase-and-research-tool-1353.html). The dataset published at heiDATA encompasses: XML-TEI documents of the case studies and interviews and summary presentations of art journals dealing with the term of "reality" and art in the four nations in question; JSON files that output the data to the website. The main content are data to exhibitions and participating artists, curators, etc. mentioned in the examined press articles, as well as HTML derivates of the XML documents. The formation, structure and use of the XML-TEI documents and JSON files are explained with a README file. Both types of data may serve as starting point for further research.</p

The interpretation and prediction of event participants in Mandarin verb-final active and passive sentences [Dataset]

    No full text
This data set contains eye tracking data collected with an SMI RED 500 eye tracking system. The experimental design, elicitation method, coding, and criteria for excluding/including data are documented in the article: Gerwien, J. (2019) "The interpretation and prediction of event participants in Mandarin active and passive N-N-V sentences". The article's abstract is as follows: The role of the markers bèi and bǎ for thematic role assignment in Chinese NP1-marker-NP2-V sentences was investigated in adult native speakers using the visual world paradigm (eye tracking). While word order is identical, thematic roles are distributed reversely in these structures (patient-bèi-agent, (passive); agent-bǎ-patient, (active)). If Mandarin speakers interpret NP1 as the agent of an event, viewing behavior was expected to differ between conditions for NP1-objects, indicating the revision of initial role assignment in the case of bèi. Given reliability differences between markers for role assignment, differences in anticipatory eye movements to NP2-objects were expected. 16 visual stimuli were combined with 16 sets of sentence pairs; one pair partner featuring a bèi-, the other a bǎ-structure. Growth curve analysis of 28 participants’ eye movements revealed no attention differences for NP1-objects. However, anticipatory eye movements to NP2-objects differed. This suggests that a stable event representation is constructed only after NP1 and the marker have been processed, but before NP2. As a control variable, syntactic/semantic complexity of NP1 was manipulated. The differences obtained indicate that the visual world paradigm is in principle sensitive to detect language-induced processing costs, which was taken to validate the null-finding for NP1. Interestingly, NP1 complexity also modulated predictive processing. Findings are discussed with respect to a differentiation between interpretative and predictive aspects incremental processing

Marriage, Parenthood and Social Network: Subjective Well-Being and Mental Health in Old Age [Dataset]

    No full text
Parenthood, marital status and social networks have been shown to relate to the well-being and mental health of older people. Using a large sample of respondents aged 50 and older from 16 European countries, we identify the associations of well-being and mental health with family status. Making use of detailed social network data of the respondents, we also identify how different social support networks correlate with the well-being and health indicators. We observe positive associations for all network types, over and beyond any direct associations of family status with well-being. Results suggest that non-residential children are important providers of social support for their parents at older age

Eyes to the North: a multi-element analysis of copper-alloy eye brooches in the eastern Baltic, produced during the Roman Iron Age [Supplement]

    No full text
Roman Iron Age. Their forms bear strong similarities to those found much further south in Germania and the northern Roman provinces, leading to the conclusion that they originally arrived in the region as imports, perhaps by sea from an as yet undiscovered production centre in an area of former East Prussia. In contrast, the eye brooches found within the Germanic areas, north of the Roman frontier, are thought to have originated as export goods produced within the Roman provinces, some distance from the areas in which they are found. We re-examine therefore the debate surrounding local production versus foreign imports, through an innovative use of pXRF. The study compares compositional data of both imported and locally produced brooches against the current typological framework with the aim to better understand how, where and when they were made
