Instructed partnership appreciation in depression: Effects on mood, momentary relationship satisfaction, and stress reactivity [dataset]

    No full text
This study compared the affective and psychobiological response of depressed and non-depressed romantic couples in an instructed partnership appreciation task (PAT) scenario that included positive feedback and appreciative communication. With the observation of (close to) naturalistic behavior between real-life partners and the emphasis on positive interaction, we aimed at extending previous research that rather focused on conflict behavior or non-intimate laboratory stressors. The general hypothesis was that couples with depression, and the depressed female index-patients in particular, would benefit less from instructed positive couple interaction, in comparison to healthy controls. A total of 184 individuals were included. Contrary to our expectation, depressed couples’ subjective mood and momentary relationship satisfaction improved in response to the PAT. At the same time, cortisol outputs were higher in depressed women than in healthy controls, particularly if participants were in a longer-term relationship. This data suggests, that instructed and individualized positive feedback between partners can have a psychobiological effect on women with depression, with potential implications for treatment

Limitations on the role of frequency in L2 acquisition [Dataset]

    No full text
This data set contains files associated with a study on motion event encoding in three L1 (French, German, English) and two L2 (German, English) groups of speakers. The L2 speakers are native speakers of French. Participants viewed short video clips and described them spontaneously. Descriptions were transcribed and coded for formal and semantic analyses. "Appendix A" contains instructions given to the participants. "Appendix B" contains screenshots of the 13 critical video clips. "Appendix C" is a documentation of the statistical analysis. "Coded_verbalization.csv" contains coded responses, which served as the basis for the statistical analysis. The article has been submitted for publication

    OwnReality API-only web application

    No full text
This dataset contains the data platform for the research project "OwnReality. To Each His Own Reality". During the course of the project, data was gathered and entered into a database. In general, this platform allows the integration of that data into web based systems such as content management systems. To be independent of the target technology, the integration is implemented with a set of customized html tags with no assumptions on lower layers. An API-only web application retrieves the data from an elasticsearch instance and relays to the widgets. A README in this dataset serves as documentation. It aims to provide information on: the requirements to run the application how to set up the API-application importing the data from the included json documents importing the additional image data building the javascript integration asset how to integrate the widgets on a third-party page Requirements linux (not a requirement but the howto in documentation assumes linux) elasticsearch (2.2.3) ruby (2.2.5) nodejs (4.4.4), only for building </p

Archäologische und naturwissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zur Landnutzungsgeschichte des Südschwarzwalds [Forschungsdaten]

    No full text
Within the scope of an interdisciplinary project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG – Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), lake sediments from the centers of the large Black Forest lakes (Titisee, Schluchsee, Feldsee and Bergsee) were analysed archaeobotanically and geochemically for the first time. Complementary archaeological (surveys, excavations) and archaeopedological prospections were carried out in the Southern Black Forest and at its foothills. The fundamental question was when, in which manner and how intensely people used this classic unfavourable area from the Stone Age to Early Modern times. The archaeological surveys yielded many new flint artifacts. Prehistoric pottery was sparse, but from the Merovingian period onwards, the number of finds increases significantly. On the edge of the Black Forest numerous new sites were discovered, which suggest a more intensive use of this region than previously thought. The excavation of several so-called stone mounds proved that these are to be interpreted as evidence of late medieval and modern land use. Colluvia indicate the intense erosion, respectively soil cover, especially since the Middle Ages. The online data contain the documentation of the archaeological prospections

The Value of Verbal Feedback in Allocation Decisions [Online Appendix and Replication Package]

    No full text
Depending on the context at hand, people’s preference for receiving feedback might differ. Especially in allocation decisions that directly concern another individual, feedback from the affected person can have positive or negative value. We study such preferences in a laboratory experiment by eliciting the willingness-to-pay to receive or to avoid verbal feedback from subjects that were previously affected by an allocation decision. We find that most decision makers exhibit a positive willingness-to-pay for having control about whether feedback occurs or not. Specifically, decision makers that shared their endowment with the recipient equally revealed a positive willingness-to-pay for receiving, but not for avoiding feedback. By contrast, among decision makers that behaved selfishly, we identify both: subjects that were willing to pay for receiving and subjects that were willing to pay for avoiding feedback. The stated motivations indicate that curiosity, the desire to receive social approval and giving the recipient the chance to express his/her feelings are the main reasons for feedback acquisition, while shame and fear of negative feedback are the main reasons for avoidance

VOSTOK - The Voxel Octree Solar Toolkit

    No full text
VOSTOK is a command-line tool to compute a detailed model of incoming solar radiation distribution on a patch of land, including structures like buildings and vegetation, represented by a 3D point cloud data set. The program is written in C++ and makes use of the "SOLPOS.H" library (http://rredc.nrel.gov/solar/codesandalgorithms/solpos/) to compute the angular position of the sun in the sky for a given location on Earth and a given moment in time. VOSTOK can use any 3D point cloud (e.g. LIDAR, SfM) as XYZ-locations (with surface normal vector information) for which the incoming sunlight shall be computed (the computation points)
