Challenges of internationalization of the Indonesian museum guides' communication skills competency

    Get PDF
As the front guards, museum guides need to master many skills that support the role of transferring information in the museum to every visitor who comes, both domestic and foreign. More specifically, every museum guide must master foreign language skills in order to serve foreign visitors. Unfortunately, not all museum guides have foreign language skills, especially English, and other supporting skills such as curation, communication, and public speaking. This paper investigates the limited ability of English mastery and other supporting skills of museum guides in two government-owned museums in Yogyakarta, the second tourism city in Indonesia, and how far they affect the internationalization of the two museums as representatives of other museums in Indonesia. This descriptive research uses data collection methods in surveys with questionnaires and in-depth interviews with guides and visitors of the museum, both domestic and foreign. This research found that limited foreign language skills, especially English and other professional skills of museum guides, can slow down the museum's internationalization process in Indonesia

    Get PDF
The Covid-19 pandemic has drastically disrupted all business sectors in Indonesia such as the arts, cultural, and entertainment industries. This circumstance necessitated the conversion of numerous conventional movie theatres and online streaming providers. This scientific article examined the impact of the pandemic on the entertainment industry, specifically theatres of XXI and CGV and movie streaming; Disney+Hotstar and Netflix.  The qualitative method was used to develop this research. The dataset was taken from the survey taken from McKinsey Company website in 2020 and articles. The authors conducted an analysis of the changes based on two theories; New Media from  Martin Lister, Jon Dovey, Seth Giddings and Kieran Kelly and Uses and Gratification Theory from Katz, Blumler, and Gurevitch. The research findings demonstrate that internet streaming services can meet the entertainment needs of lonely individuals at home and result in a paradigm shift away from the belief that new films are only released in theatres

Autonomous Fuzzy Heading Control for a Multi-Wheeled Combat Vehicle

    Get PDF
This paper introduces the design and the implementation of a heading angle tracking controller using fuzzy logic for a scaled Autonomous Multi-Wheeled Combat Vehicle (AMWCV) to navigate in outdoor environments. The challenge of designing this control system is to control the steering of the front four wheels individually to obtain the correct heading angle of the vehicle. The main contribution of the paper can be summarized in the fact that it is designing four fuzzy controllers for navigation and tracking the desired heading angle while at the same time while controlling the steering of the front four wheels individually. The AMWCV is capable of forwarding and backward movement where all eight wheels are powered individually. The different heading angles are used and simulated using MATLAB software to evaluate the performances of the developed algorithms. In addition, the performance of the developed controllers is validated in the presence of noise and disturbance in order to evaluate the robustness of the controller's Simulation results show the performances and demonstrate that the developed controllers are effective in predicting the desired heading angle changes

Nunggak semi Al Suwardi: organology and perspective of harmonic planet music creation

    Get PDF
This article examines the artistry of a composer named Aloysius Suwardi. This composer, who grew up in the Javanese gamelan music tradition, has produced musical compositions and created musical instruments as a means/medium to express it on the journey of his creativity. His works have been staged in various forums or world music festivals. The musical instruments he has created fill the laboratory spaces to create his musical compositions. Two musical ensembles that have been created are Gamelan Genta and Gamelan Planet Harmonic. These two musical instruments complement the many personal musical instruments he has created, such as the vibrander, tering, gerendang, and other musical instruments. Regarding the two ensembles, this article examines the aspects of the creation process. For example, how did Al Suwardi choose the materials used, how to make them, to how he determined the barrel system for these tools. In terms of compositing, this article examines how Al Suwardi started his work, his models of creation, and how he composes his works until they are declared final. The gragas and dridis creeds and Nunggak Semi's concept are the main topics in this composition creation model. Both creeds and concepts have ushered in the landscape of making Al Suwardi's musical compositions expand, from the gamelan tradition to more contemporary models of music creatio

The art of honing the conscience through bukalapak ads: barongsai Indonesia, juara hati membangun bangsa

    Get PDF
Culture is one of the foundations for the existence of Indonesia as a nation, as it is expressed in the second stanza of her national anthem. The government has taken an initiative to prioritize national character building, which places character education to realize the vision of national development. One of the efforts to visualize this Indonesian is constructed through a Bukalapak advertisement entitled “Barongsai Indonesia, Juara Hati Membangun Negeri,†which presented the Kong Ha Hong lion dance group and was published via Youtube. This study aims to see that the character values of the Indonesian nation can be constructed through digital media, more precisely through an advertisement. This research employed a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm that sees facts as unique and has a special meaning. In addition, the analysis used Thomas Albert Sebeok's visual semiotics to depict several similar classifications to different visual symbols. It was found that every advertisement scene contained both visual and audio messages related to the adaptation of the culture and character of the Indonesian. The contribution and novelty of this research in its construction of the deep meaning of an advertisement are that the conscience has played a major role in the process of cultural adaptation in which the national characters have been honed through the actual actions in the heart-mind, body, and spirit. This research suggested that the character of the Indonesian nation can be formed through cultural adaptation, as proven by the Kong Ha Hong lion danc

This study aims to find various forms of women’s social practices as the pillars of the family economic in rural UIK. The research employs qualitative research method which involves a study case at Kacang Tore Small Enterprise. The data of the research were collected by using triangulation method covering observation, interview, and documentation, and those data obtained in this research were then analyzed using a forward stepwise model from Spradley. From the findings, it is stated that social capital is formed by the presence of several elements of social capital which created through social interactions between economic actors, and women workers. Its form can be seen through various forms of social capital such as beliefs, networks, norms, values of life based on religious teachings and ancestral cultural heritage which passed down over generations to generations by exchanging kindness. The practice of women’s social capital, the pillars of the family economy, is found in terms of (1) building trust in a working relationship in all activities of the small business unit; (2) establishing social capital network which emerges from relationships between family members and friends; (3) maintaining kindness and reciprocity embedded in free knowledge sharing and giving loan; (4) preserving the values of life as having been explained in religious teachings and in cultural heritage passed down from the generation to generation; (5) implementing norms as the guideline for all economic actors to conduct their economic activities. These practices are essential to strengthen the existence of small business unit at the rural area, which then provide the recommendation for other small business units throughout Indonesia to empower women as the pillar of the family. Empowering women is believed to increase the family economy because women serve as the ideal capital resources for maintaining the economic resilience of the family
