A Study on Civic Education Reform in Chicago Public Schools: Combatting the Civic Empowerment Gap through Schoolwide Civic Education Practice
Get PDFThe purpose of this study is to investigate and clarify the characteristics of civic education reform in Chicago Public Schools (CPS). CPS, known as one of the largest metropolitan school districts in the U.S., launched school-wide civic education reform throughout the district to tackle with the issue of the “civic empowerment gap.” First, CPS has created its original high-school civics curriculum that would help teachers incorporate students’ lived experiences into the classroom and teach them how to participate in society and make changes in various ways. In addition, CPS provides students with a variety of opportunities to exercise their voices and take actions to make a difference in school, local communities, and wider society, such as service-learning in multiple subjects and “Student Voice Committee” programs. CPS has also added “Student Voice, Engagement and Civic Life” component into its school evaluation framework, which would foster school-wide commitment to civic education.departmental bulletin pape
A Study on Corporate Practice in SDGs and Value Creation Management
Get PDFSDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) consist of 17 targets, 169 targets and 232 indicators as objectives the international community should achieve by 2030 for sustainable development. Although not legally binding, governments, including Japan, have pledged to try to achieve the SDGs. The SDGs are considered as a universal common language for social issue resolution efforts up to 2030, as their scope is so broad that they apply to all countries and regions. Although companies are not required to deal with SDGs, they cannot be ignored if future corporate activities are considered, including the global value chain.
Companies are actively working on SDGs, and some have identified SDGs as part of their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). On the other hand, companies that see SDGs as business opportunities are attracting attention, and a virtuous circle that leads to the improved image of being a good company that considers the environment and society has begun to emerge.
The efforts of the SDGs are required over the long term until the 2030 target year. It is expected that sustainable corporate competitiveness will be improved by incorporating SDGs into the main business while reviewing business activities and market issues from the perspective of SDGs without making it a transient approach. This symposium considered professionalism in nursery school teachers in terms of the theory vs practice dichotomy in research on early childhood care and education. To achieve this, the researchers analyze the views on childcare of Sozo Kurahashi and Eiichi Mochida, and the state of nursery teacher training schools.

Optimizing Groupings Using Cooperative Games with Characteristic Function
Get PDFWe are not sure if it is good for either a class or for society to group students by intelligence. The way to divide group properly is affected by what priorities are considered. If the purpose is to make the smartest student smarter, the current method in Japan of standard deviation value is obviously correct. However, to most benefit the entire classroom or entire society, we are not sure if this is the best way. Therefore, we are going to talk about methods which benefit the entire group the most.
In this paper, the classroom has three different kinds of students, which we divide into three-person groups. The benefit to each group is the sum of the three students’ benefit in a cooperation game. The benefit to each person is given by the Shapley value from the characteristic function we defined. We investigate the properties of the characteristic function and some Lemmas by ranking groups. Finally, we can obtain a theorem to make the total benefit of the classroom maximal under the limited conditions.

The Question of Human Dignity
Get PDFSince the end of the Second World War, “human dignity” has been frequently used in international declarations and national constitutions. The concept, however, has become controversial in bioethics recently, because it is so vague that it can be invoked to fortify opposing arguments on the same issue. Therefore some critics call it useless or even harmful. In this paper I will point out two other drawbacks of the idea of equal dignity of all human beings, including individuals with severe cognitive disabilities. First, it is grounded in religious faith, which fails to query whether the chimpanzee or Homo neanderthalensis has the same kind of dignity as Homo sapiens. Second, it is inconsistent, considering the fact that quite a number of people prefer “death with dignity” to staying alive when they are irreversibly incapacitated and lose their sense of agency.departmental bulletin pape

2004. It was composed of four main parts: (1) the definition, (2) a hierarchy of inputs for determining fair value, (3) valuation techniques, including valuation premises, and (4) disclosures. The AAA Financial Accounting Standards
Committee, a respondent, commented on matters that were conceptually inconsistent or unclear.

This paper examines the Federalism in the Federal Republic of Austria, chiefly the division of functions between Bund, the federal state, and Länder, the individual states, Firstly, we see the main provisions of the Austrian Constitution（Bundes-Verfassungsgesetz〔B-VG〕）related to these functions, namely Articles 10-15,
which show clearly the centralization of Austrian Federalism in comparison with that of Germany or Switzerland.
Secondly, we see the participation of Länder in the legislation or administration of Bund, and the co-operation of Bund with the legislation or administration of Länder.
Thirdly, we see examine the control and compulsory execution of Bund on Länder.
