Feminisme R. A. Kartini dan Relevansinya Bagi Gereja Di Indonesia

    No full text
Feminism has become an engaging and relevant topic in today’s era. The position and role of women in society are reasons why feminism continues to be advocated. This study discusses one of the feminist figures in Indonesia who fought in her way in her time.  R.A. Kartini certainly had her uniqueness in advocating for women's rights, especially in obtaining education. The experiences and observations of social practices she encountered, both in Javanese culture and how the colonialists treated natives, were expressed in the form of writings (correspondence) with some of her friends in the Netherlands. Eleven years after her death, this collection of letters was published into a book titled “Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang” (“Out of Dark Comes Light”). This book inspired many people, especially in Indonesian society, to believe that women also have an essential role in communal life. Kartini’s struggle for women’s equality opened people’s eyes to take action in addressing the social inequalities present in society. Previous studies have largely examined Kartini from the perspectives of educational and national emancipation, but few have explored her relevance to church life, particularly regarding the role of Catholic women. This study aims to examine Kartini’s feminist ideas and discover their relevance to the Indonesian Church through the work of the Indonesian Catholic Women's Association (WKRI). This study uses a qualitative method with a historical-theological approach, including a literature review of Kartin’s letters, Church documents, and a case study of the role of WKRI. The results of the study indicate that Kartini’s feminist ideas have inspired the empowerment of Catholic women and encouraged WKRI to become a vehicle for women's active participation in Church and community life. This study confirms that Kartini’s ideas remain relevant as a basis for theological reflection and praxis in the struggle for gender equality and social justice in the Indonesian Church.

This article explores the dialogue between Proverbs 17:17, a part of biblical Wisdom Literature, and Siri’ na Pacce, a traditional value system of the Bugis-Makassar ethnic group. Both emphasize universal values such as love, solidarity, empathy, and human dignity within community life. Proverbs 17:17 underscores the importance of a faithful and loving friend especially in difficult times, while Siri’ na Pacce highlights honor (siri’) and compassion in suffering (pacce). This study employs a qualitative approach through literature review to analyze scriptural texts and local philosophies contextually. The findings indicate that these two traditions complement each other and enrich Christian faith expression in local cultural contexts. Their integration also supports the development of contextual theology and contributes to building a compassionate and dignified society. In an increasingly individualistic world, these values remain relevant in strengthening relationships and fostering inclusive communities of faithAbstrakArtikel ini mengeksplorasi dialog antara Amsal 17:17 sebagai bagian dari Sastra Kebijaksanaan dalam Alkitab dan falsafah hidup siri’ na pacce sebagai kearifan lokal Bugis-Makassar.

EMBRACING VULNERABILITY AS KENOSIS IN HENRI NOUWEN’S SPIRITUAL JOURNEY AND ITS RESONANCE WITH IGNATIAN SPIRITUALITY

This article examines how Henri Nouwen’s theology of vulnerability, grounded in his personal struggles and pastoral experiences, reinterprets Christ’s kenosis (self-emptying) as a transformative spiritual practice. The study aims to analyze the resonance between Nouwen’s spiritual journey and the principles of Ignatian spirituality, particularly the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. Employing a qualitative literature research method, the article draws on Nouwen’s autobiographical writings and key Ignatian texts, using comparative and hermeneutic analysis to highlight both similarities and distinctions. The results show that while Nouwen was not directly shaped by Ignatian spirituality, his approach to discernment, daily reflection, and accompaniment in weakness naturally aligns with Ignatian themes. The article concludes that embracing vulnerability as kenosis not only deepens personal spiritual growth but also offers a resilient model for pastoral ministry in contemporary contexts. This synthesis deepens our understanding of Christian formation, highlighting that human fragility can be a sacred space for encountering God and fostering authentic community

Portrait of Pastoral Care of Factory Employees in the Industrial Area of the Church of Saint Stanislaus, Girisonta Parish

The Parish of Saint Stanislaus Girisonta, situated in Semarang Regency, is surrounded by numerous industrial factories, attracting a significant number of Catholic migrant workers. However, the Church lacks comprehensive data on these migrants and has not yet developed a dedicated pastoral program to address their spiritual needs. This study examines the current state of pastoral care for factory employees in Girisonta Parish, explores their expectations for spiritual support, and evaluates the implementation of relevant pastoral initiatives. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that while pastoral care in Girisonta Parish is generally well-structured, it has not been specifically adapted to the needs of factory workers and migrants. Employees express the need for more flexible pastoral services, including the formation of a Catholic employee community, Masses outside regular working hours, and spiritual guidance that accommodates their work schedules. Despite the increasing presence of Catholic factory workers, no structured pastoral program currently exists to provide consistent support for them. This study highlights the urgency of establishing targeted pastoral initiatives to foster a stronger spiritual connection among Catholic migrant workers in Girisonta Parish

Mungkin Kita Sudah Sampai di Sana: Mengamati Kekuasaan Melalui Dunia Distopia Postmodernis dalam The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023)

Movies are more than just works of art and fiction. Oftentimes, motion pictures portray, allude, and satirize social phenomena. This paper observes control mechanisms used by the government in Suzanne Collins’ book adaptation movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023) to assert power over citizens. By analyzing selected movie scenes and dialogue related to power relations through textual and visual analysis, the study reveals parallelism of dystopian elements shown in the movie with current sociopolitical situation through Foucault’s postmodernist view on power. The findings show that government in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes creates and utilizes citizens’ internalized discipline through surveillance to establish power within them as docile bodies, echoing how subtle power is used by governments across the world to cultivate public orderliness in the modern days.

Ambivalent Occidentalism in Mochtar Lubis’s Cold War Literature Maut dan Cinta

    No full text
This article revisits Maut dan Cinta (1977), a seminal Cold War-era novel by Indonesian author Mochtar Lubis, to examine how the text engages with cultural imperialism in postcolonial Indonesia through its complex portrayal of the Occident. Employing Martin Suryajaya’s “wide-close-deep” methodology—a three-pronged framework for literary analysis—the study situates Lubis’s work within Indonesia’s Cold War cultural politics, highlighting the author’s contested ideological stance. Through the lenses of Occidentalism and cultural imperialism, the analysis reveals Lubis’s profound ambivalence toward Western influence: while critiquing Western hegemony and cautioning against uncritical adoption of Western values, his works simultaneously echo the capitalist Bloc’s anticommunist rhetoric, and his cultural-intellectual networks remain entrenched in Western capital. This paradox deepens with Lubis’s selective embrace of Western liberalism, which coexists with a striking silence on capitalism’s role in perpetuating global inequality. Crucially, his vehement rejection of communist internationalism starkly contrasts with his reluctance to address capitalism’s transnational exploitation of the Global South—a contradiction epitomized by his protagonist Sadeli’s distorted view of the Occident and the characters’ failure to recognize global capitalism’s neocolonial and culturally imperialist dynamics. By unpacking these tensions, the study argues that Lubis’s ambivalence in Maut dan Cinta reflects the broader ideological fissures of postcolonial intellectual resistance during the Cold War, caught between anti-imperialist critique and complicity in hegemonic structures.

Analisis Statistika dalam Riset-Riset Psikologi Komunikasi: Sebuah Studi Literatur

    No full text
The increasing number of studies in psychology on communication demanded the use of more relevant statistical analysis techniques that can meet the needs for these studies. Conventional analysis techniques, such as ones that were based on linear model, assume that the observation are independent. Such assumption were often violated in studies on communication. Therefore, it was imperative to develop statistical analysis techniques that could address problems related to data with dependent observation either in communication events. Such efforts could not be separated from literature studies addressing several research questions: (1) What kind of research questions  that frequently arose in communication in Psychology?, (2) What statistical analysis techniques that were commonly used to answer the questions in such studies?, (3) What potential statitical analysis techniques that could be used in the studies?, and (4) How were the discrepancies between the needs in communication studies in Psychology with the statistical analysis techniques currently available? The current studies attempted to address those questions by conducting a study of literature review. It was shown that there was still a big space for improvement for studies on communication particularly in Indonesia. Many statistical techniques that were currently available, such as dyadic analysis or social network analysis, have not been employed to address the issues related to dependence of observation or social relations data. Moreover, statistical models or techniques should be developed to measure communication events to reduce the dependence on self-report assessments.

Salience and Erasure in the Indonesian Government Climate Change Discourse: A Corpus-Based Ecolinguistics Study

Climate change is a global phenomenon and has become a challenge to world society. According to that, this study examines linguistics strategies used in the erasure of climate change discourse through ecolinguistics lenses. This study used a specialized corpus that was built through 224 articles from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) website, which was collected with the keywords perubahan iklim ‘climate change’, krisis iklim ‘climate crisis’, and ketahanan iklim ‘climate resilience’. The data was analyzed using Sketch Engine using keywords, concordance, and collocations features. Then, the analysis of data was conducted manually through semantic categorization. This paper used Stibbe’s the void and the mask framework for its analysis. The major themes found in this paper are the government and its activities as a part of international organizations. This paper also found that KLHK used several linguistics strategies to demonstrate climate change, including abstract terms and nominalization to obscure the social actors. Also, the theme of nature, such as non-human species are completely erased from the discourse. These results show that climate change discourse on KLHK’s website is contrary to the ecosophy of ecolinguistics that encourages highlighting the importance of non-human species in such discourse. It is clear that KLHK takes non-human species for granted in their climate change discourse compared to human activity in their discourse
