INDIGENOUS FOODWAYS OF THE GALOS: A CHALLENGE TO ARCHAEOLOGY
The Galos are one among many tribes inhabiting the mountainous terrain of Arunachal Pradesh, located in the foothills of the Himalayas in North-East India. The traditional subsistence practice of the Galos includes swidden cultivation popularly known as jhumming in North-East India, animal husbandry and gathering. The paper discusses in detail the indigenous foodways of the Galos and how it pose challenges to the archaeology of the food in the region.Keywords: Arunachal Pradesh, Galo tribe, indigenous, foodway
VALUE OF SHIPWRECK DATA IN DATABASES
Shipwrecks are valuable archaeological sites that can contribute enormous amounts of information to Social/Natural Sciences and Humanities. This paper discusses how data from shipwreck sites can expand a multidisciplinary database. Their value is highlighted with examples of shipwrecks in Southeast Asia and their contribution to an ongoing database project at McGill University’s Indian Ocean World Center.

LOOKING FORWARD BY STUDYING THE PAST IN EAST AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN ARCHAEOLOGY: THE NEXT 50 YEARS
A discussion on the collection of articles resulting from the 2013 conference at the University of Wisconsin-Madison entitled, “Recent Advances in the Archaeology of East and Southeast Asia.” These papers are contextualized by considering the fifty years before the published JIPA papers appeared in 2015. I then review major themes in the conference papers, and discuss future directions.
