MioVeg1: A Global Middle Miocene Vegetation Reconstruction for Climate Modeling

    No full text
Climate models require boundary condition information, such as vegetation and soil distributions because they influence the mean state climate, and feedbacks can significantly influence regional climate and climate sensitivity to CO2 forcing. Information about past distributions comes primarily from the paleobotanical record, which is often supplemented by a vegetation model to fill data gaps. For recent past periods such as the Pliocene, a quantitative suitability assessment of these vegetation model simulations is sufficient. However, the Miocene Climate Optimum spanning 16.9–14.7 Ma was the warmest period on Earth over the last ∼25 million years and models struggle to reproduce those conditions for the range of paleogeographies and CO2 concentrations tested, particularly at high latitudes. Here we bring together the Miocene modeling and data communities to update previous vegetation reconstructions used for climate modeling with a new regional approach that relaxes the requirement for a single model simulation to be used, blending instead simulations forced by different paleogeographies and CO2 concentrations. This ensures the simulated vegetation is first, and foremost, consistent with the paleorecord and provides a baseline for future comparisons. The reconstruction shows global increases in forest cover at all latitudes as compared to today and extensive C3 grasslands across the high northern latitudes. Data gaps at high latitudes are filled with vegetation models forced by higher CO2 concentrations than were required at lower latitudes consistent with the inability of current models to simulate Miocene high latitude warmth

Çocuk Hastada Süt ve Daimi Dentisyonda Dentin Anomalisi ve Rehabilitasyonu: Olgu Sunumu

    No full text
Tüm bulgular ve ailesel geçiş özellikleri sebebiyle dentin displazisi tip I (DD-I) ön tanısı konmuştur. 12 yaşındaki hastanın DNA örneği, Sanger dizi analizi yöntemi ile incelenmiş; SMOC2 geninde herhangi bir değişim saptanmamıştır. İleri düzey genetik analizlerin planlanmasına karar verilmiştir. 12 yaşındaki hastaya hareketli dişli çocuk protezi yapılarak estetik ve fonksiyonel eksiklikler giderilmeye çalışılmış ve oral rehabilitasyon sağlanmıştır. 4 yaşındaki hasta ile kooperasyon sağlanamadığından dolayı, ağız içi aparey yapılamamıştır. Her iki hastanın düzenli klinik takipleri sürdürülmektedir. Introduction: Anomalies in dentin tissue may result from genetic or environmental factors, arising due to disturbances in dentin matrix formation or mineralization. Clinically, these conditions may present with alterations in tooth color, shape, or hardness, while radiographically, narrowed pulp chambers, short or conical roots, and root resorption may be observed. Such abnormalities can lead to premature tooth loss, reduced alveolar bone support, and associated functional and esthetic problems.Case report: According to the medical history obtained, two male patients aged 4 and 12, who were identified as cousins, presented to our clinic with complaints of multiple missing teeth, as well as difficulties in aesthetics, phonation, and mastication. Both patients were born to consanguineous parents and exhibited ocular problems. Intraoral and radiographic examinations revealed that the 4-year-old had only four primary teeth, while the 12-year-old had 13 erupted teeth and 11 impacted permanent teeth within the alveolar bone. According to the anamnesis, three permanent teeth had previously been lost due to mobility. Radiographically, pulp chambers were obliterated and roots appeared short and conical, with generalized mobility. Crowns displayed normal morphology and coloration, although molars appeared smaller in size. Based on clinical and radiographic findings, a preliminary diagnosis of Dentin Dysplasia Type I (DD-I) was made. Sanger sequencing of the SMOC2 gene in the 12-year-old patient revealed no mutations; therefore, advanced genetic testing was planned. To restore esthetics and function, a removable pediatric denture was fabricated for the older patient. Conclusions: Early diagnosis of developmental dentin anomalies is crucial for timely prosthetic or preventive management. The characteristic findings of short, conical roots, obliterated pulp chambers, and genetic inheritance support a diagnosis of DD-I. However, the absence of SMOC2 gene mutations differentiates this case from previously reported cases, highlighting the genetic heterogeneity of dentin anomalies and the importance of a multidisciplinary diagnostic approach.</p
