    Climate change, considered one of the most significant challenges in the last decades, has substantiallyimpacted water resources. To minimize these effects and ensure a sustainable water supply for futuregenerations, it is crucial to manage water resources in a balanced and well-planned manner. Reservoirsplay a key role in regulating river flows, hydropower generation, flood control, and water supply (Bisselinket al. 2018). The effective use of stored water for different purposes depends on the efficient managementof reservoirs in line with their design objectives. Various simulation models have been developed to assessreservoir operations and support water resources management.In this study, the generalized reservoir simulation program HEC-ResSim, developed by the U.S. ArmyCorps of Engineers (USACE) Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), was utilized to analyze reservoiroperations. The study focuses on the Çine River sub-basin, located within the Büyük Menderes River Basin,and specifically examines the operation of the Adnan Menderes Dam. Büyük Menderes River Basin is one ofthe agriculture-intensive basins of Turkey, dominated by Mediterranean climate conditions, experiencingwater scarcity exacerbated by anthropogenic influences and climate change. Through simulations based onpredefined operational rules, system’s behavior was analyzed to evaluate its performance under differentconditions.</p

    Comparison of the clinical characteristics of children with Silver-Russell syndrome genetically confirmed or not and their response to growth hormone therapy: a national multicenter study

    Objectives: Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS) is a rare imprinting disorder characterized by intrauterine and postnatal growth retardation. Its genetic etiology shows a heterogeneous distribution. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics of children diagnosed with SRS, their response to growth hormone therapy, and compare the data of genetically confirmed and clinically diagnosed SRS cases. Methods: A total of 69 patients were included in the study. Genetically confirmed cases were considered Group 1, and cases with a clinical diagnosis according to the Netchine-Harbison scoring system were considered Group 2. The anthropometric data of the patients at birth, at the time of diagnosis, before and during the first year of growth hormone (GH) treatment, final height-SDS values of patients who reached final height, and accompanying comorbidities were recorded. Results: In Group 1, 75.8 % had hypomethylation in the ICR1 region, 13.7 % had maternal uniparental disomy 7, 6.8 % had an IGF-2 mutation, and 3 % had a duplication in the 11p15 region. Central precocious puberty, gastroenterological, and neurologic comorbidities were found to be more frequent than those from other systems. Final height-SDS was −2.32 ± 1.57 (n=5) in Group 1 and −2.41 ± 0.86 (n=5) in Group 2. Conclusions: 11p15 LOM was the most common genetic disorder in children with SRS in our case series. Gastroenterological problems and neurologic complications were observed frequently in these cases. Central precocious puberty was more commonly observed compared to the general population. The duration of treatment was the most critical factor in the success of GH therapy

    Insular ecosystem services in peril: a systematic review on the impacts of climate change and other drivers

    Islands around the world are disproportionately affected by climate change, and their adaptive capacity is generally lower than that of mainland areas. Ecosystems play a vital role in supporting the well-being of island communities; however, their response to climate change has not been thoroughly assessed. Following the PRISMA methodology, this study presents a systematic literature review that examines studies on the impacts of climate change on island ecosystem services worldwide. Our findings highlight that island ecosystem services studies are increasing over time. About 60% of studies that explicitly focused on climate impacts report adverse effects on these services, predominantly impacting marine ecosystems (including fisheries and coral reefs), with significant but less frequently studied effects on terrestrial ecosystems. Climate factors such as rising temperatures, increased sea levels, and extreme weather events are commonly associated with negative impacts on island ecosystems. These effects are intensified by the combined influence of non-climatic factors, particularly land-use changes. Although island ecosystem services hold potential for nature-based solutions towards climate mitigation, their effectiveness is limited by knowledge gaps and insufficient policy-driven adaptation strategies. Addressing these gaps is essential to support sustainable adaptation and resilience in vulnerable island communities

    Determining the Cut-Off Value of the MASCC Score to Predict Mortality in Hospitalized Febrile Neutropenic Patients: A Decade-Long Single-Center Retrospective Cohort Study

    Introduction: Febrile neutropenia (FN) is linked to significant morbidity and mortality in cancer patients. Therefore, our study aimed to determine the cut-off value of the MASCC score to predict mortality in hospitalized FN patients. Methods: We included 354 hospitalized cancer patients, divided into two groups: the mortality group (n = 116) and the survival group (n = 238). We defined risk factors of all-cause mortality according to a Cox regression model. The optimal cut-off value for the MASCC score was found using Youden s index. Results: The 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day mortality rates were 25.1% (n = 89), 30.2% (n = 107), and 32.7% (n = 116), respectively. Having a hematological malignancy, advanced age, comorbidities, higher levels of C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin on admission, profound neutropenia and a lower MASCC score were statistically different in the mortality group compared to the survival group. The only independent risk factor was the MASCC score to predict allcause mortality according to the multivariate Cox regression models. A MASCC score below 17 showed a sensitivity of 83.6% and a specificity of 94.1% for predicting all-cause mortality in hospitalized FN patients. Conclusions: In this cohort study, we showed 30, 60 and 90-day mortality rates of hospitalized patients and determined the risk factors. We supported that the MASCC score was an independent risk factor for predicting mortality in hospitalized FN patients. We contributed to the literature by establishing a threshold value for the MASCC score, below 17, showing notably high sensitivity and specificity for predicting all-cause mortality in FN patients. 2025 S.
