Identification of Dry Ayurvedic Herbs (Roots and Stems) Through Ai/Computer Vision Technology
This study presents a novel AI-based approach for the identification and quality control of dry Ayurvedic herbs using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). The model was developed to identify 43 types of dry Ayurvedic herbs, comprising 14 stems and 29 roots, based on visual features such as texture, colour, and shape. A dataset of 4,300 high-resolution images was curated using smartphones, and preprocessing techniques like normalization and augmentation were applied to enhance model robustness. The CNN model, with four convolutional layers (32 to 256 filters) and dropout layers, was designed to efficiently extract hierarchical features while preventing overfitting. The model achieved high training accuracy (94%) but encountered challenges in validation accuracy (85%), indicating difficulties in generalization. A confusion matrix revealed strong performance for distinct herb species but highlighted misclassifications among visually similar herbs. This study demonstrates the potential of AI and computer vision technologies to automate herb identification and quality control, reducing human dependency and errors. The system is deployable on mobile devices or servers, offering practical applications in the pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic industries, with significant benefits for consumer confidence and the authenticity of herbal products. Future work will focus on expanding the dataset, refining preprocessing methods, and utilizing enhanced computational resources, such as GPUs and cloud computing, to improve model scalability, efficiency, and generalization

This Article explores the characteristics of individuals with Vata Prakriti as described in classical Ayurvedic texts, including Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya. Vata Prakriti is characterized by physical, mental, and behavioural traits influenced by the dominance of the Vata Dosha. These include dry and lean body types, light and quick movements, sensitivity to cold, and a restless disposition. Ayurvedic management of Vaipadika - A Case Study
Vaipadika is one among eleven Kshudra Kushtas characterized by Pani Pada Sputana (cracking of palms and soles), Teevra Vedana (intense pain), Manda Kandu (mild itching) and Saraga Pidaka (reddish lesions). It is a Vatakapha predominant condition. Palmoplantar psoriasis effecting hand and foot shares similar clinical features as that of Vaipadika. It causes itching, pain, and rashes on the palms of the hands, sides of the fingers or on the soles of the feet. As Kushta is a Bahudoshaja Vyadhi, it requires Shodhana Chikitsa (purificatory therapies). But Kshudra Kushtas like Vaipadika respond well to OP based Shamana Chikitsa (pacification therapy). The current case report is an attempt to appreciate the effect of Shamana Chikitsa in the management of Vaipadika Kushta (Palmoplantar psoriasis). A sixty-three-year-old female patient approached the outpatient department with complaints of cracked left palm associated with itching, burning sensation and pain in the last one year. Though it is a chronic case, the patient was able to get relieved within four visits which created a promising faith towards Ayurvedic treatment
A clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of Madhuyashti granules and Shirodhara in the management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in school going children
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. The growing prevalence of ADHD among school-going children necessitates exploring holistic and integrative treatment approaches. Ayurveda, with its personalized therapeutic interventions, offers a promising avenue for managing ADHD. This clinical study is aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Madhuyashti granules (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and Shirodhara (a classical Ayurvedic therapy) in managing ADHD symptoms in school-going children. A randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted involving school-going children aged 6-15 years diagnosed with ADHD based on DSM V criteria. Participants were divided into two groups: Group A received Madhuyashti Granules (internally administered) only, while Group B received Madhuyashti Granules (internally administered) alongside Shirodhara therapy. The intervention was administered for 45 days. The primary outcomes were measured using qualitative parent-teacher feedback. Group B exhibited significant improvement in attention span, impulse control and hyperactivity compared to Group A. Madhuyashti Granules, known for their Medhya (nootropic) properties, enhanced cognitive functions, while Shirodhara provided calming effects, reducing hyperactivity and promoting focus. The integrative approach showed no adverse effects, demonstrating safety and efficacy. The combination of Madhuyashti Granules and Shirodhara proved effective in managing ADHD symptoms, offering a natural and holistic alternative for school-going children. Further large-scale studies are recommended to validate these findings and explore long-term benefits
Revisiting Vaitarana Basti: A Conceptual Study in the Present Era
Among all Vasti Chikitsa, Vaitarana Vasti stands out for its unique formulation and specific uses. Derived from Vaitarani Mahatmya, it signifies a therapy that restores health from diseases. Today, Vaitarana Vasti is widely used to treat conditions like Amavata (rheumatoid arthritis), Katisoola (low back pain), and Gridhrasi (sciatica) underscores its therapeutic potential, with references in texts like Chakradutta and Vrindhamadhava. The absence of direct references in the Brihat Trayee (Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya) does raise interesting debates, especially concerning ingredient formulations, Drava Dravya (liquid medium), and dosages. The variations among practitioners in ingredient proportions and the lack of standardized guidelines highlight the need for further clinical and pharmacological studies. Through this conceptual discussion, researchers may gain a deeper understanding of Vaitarana Vasti\u27s complexities, paving the way for its standardization and broader adoption in integrative medicine
Understanding types of Pandu Roga on the basis of common Haematological Parameters - A Comparative Study
Considering human lifestyles and routines, the 21st century is unlike any earlier century. People experience a tremendous amount of stress and strain in their day today life, which has a detrimental impact on their quality of life. Additionally, in present time, people tend to eat Viruddha Aahar like pizzas, Chinese food, pickle, packed edibles, gupchup, burgers, chips etc. which are Kshara Rasa Pradhan. It has been noted that in India, not only lower economic group, middle as well as higher economic group also suffer from Pandu Roga under different circumstances. Pandu is a Pitta Pradhana disease, which ultimately affects all Dhaatus, especially Rasa Dhaatu, and prevents Rasa from going through the Ranjana or pigmentation process. There is a need to differentiate different types of Pandu with haematological parameters. This will be helpful for Ayurvedic Physicians and students as the line of treatment is different for every type of Pandu Roga in Ayurveda Classics. Ayurvedic education has undergone a significant transformation from the traditional Gurukula system to the structured curriculum established by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). The Gurukula system emphasized holistic learning, ethical training, and experiential wisdom, fostering practitioners deeply connected to Ayurveda’s principles. In contrast, the NCISM framework introduces standardized degrees, scientific integration, research-based validation, and digital tools to modernize Ayurvedic education while ensuring its global relevance. However, challenges remain in preserving the contextual richness of traditional methods. This article explores the evolution, benefits, and limitations of both systems while proposing a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation to maintain Ayurveda’s authenticity in contemporary healthcare. By balancing classical wisdom with modern advancements, Ayurvedic education can continue to nurture skilled practitioners who uphold its legacy while contributing to global health paradigms
Comprehensive study of Nasya Dravya mentioned in Bruhatrayi
Panchkarma deals with five Karmas Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Raktamokshana and Nasya Karma. The nearest passage for detoxifying Shiropradesh is nostrils. Therefore, Nasya Karma pacifies three Doshas of Shiropradesh curing ailments occurring in Shiro and Urdhwajatru parts. The importance of Nasya Karma is specified by the Adhyaya Apamargatanduliya named for the best drug used for the Shodhana of Uttamanga. The Dravya used in Nasya Karma are scattered in different Adhyayas of different Sthanas in Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Ashtanga Hridyam Samhita. In this article for the first time all the Dravya are gathered together from Bruhatrayi and compared. Dravyas are identified with help of respective Tikas, Dravyaguna textbooks and web sources for easy study and use of Dravya for the procedure along with the part used of the Dravya. 
Yoga and Pain: A Comprehensive Mechanistic review
Pain is a significant portion of people experience, which is a feeling of discomfort. Yoga is one of the mind body therapies which were employed in managing the pain by considering its efficacy and safety. When it comes to clinical application of Yoga for pain there is disparity in the mechanism of pain in clinician and researchers. So, the purpose of the present study is to highlight the mechanisms related to the influence of Yoga and pain. This includes on the different conditions like migraine, low back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, cancer pain, and on yoga practitioners. This mechanism of action includes the involvement of mainly through autonomic regulation, c-fibers of pain, natural opioids, and interleukins etc. This helps to understand and prepare a patient centric Yoga Therapy protocol for the better treatment of the pain
Unfolding the therapeutic potential of Ayurvedic Herbal Plants in the management of Arbuda (Cancer) - A Conceptual Study
Introduction: Cancer is a devastating disease characterized by the abnormal, uncontrolled proliferation of cells. It invades surrounding tissues and metastasis to other parts of the body. Despite significant strides in modern cancer treatment, the search for effective and less invasive therapies continues. Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, offers a holistic approach to healthcare, including the management of chronic diseases such as cancer.
Materials and Methods: This study involved a thorough review of various Ayurvedic texts, research papers, and scientific articles focusing on the Ayurvedic and modern understanding of cancer and the potential role of herbal plants in its management.
Discussion: The herbal plants may be reducing the oxidative effects and inflammation caused by tumour cells. These herbs may improve mitochondrial membrane permeability which improves DNA binding, blocks the use of glucose by cancer cells, blocks the cellular signalling pathways of cancer genes and DNA mutations in normal cells, inhibition of invasion of cancer cells in the body.
Conclusion: Numerous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of herbal plants in cancer prevention and treatment. These plants may offer promising therapeutic benefits by modulating various cellular pathways involved in cancer development and progression. Further research is crucial to fully understand the mechanisms of action of these herbs and to develop safe and effective herbal-based therapies for cancer
