    Efficacy of Single Drug Therapy in the management of Subclinical Hypothyroidism: A Case Series analysis using Ayurvedic approach

    Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is characterized by elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels with normal free thyroxine (T4) levels. Herbal formulations used in Ayurvedic medicine offer a comprehensive strategy that may be beneficial to controlling symptoms than conventional treatment, which usually concentrate on hormone replacement. This case series aims to determine the effectiveness of single drug therapy in treating Subclinical Hypothyroidism, with a focus toward evaluating biochemical markers and clinical outcomes which is need of the hour. A total of 8 patients diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism were treated with Shigru Patra Churna tablet over 42 days. Patient information was gathered both before and after treatment, including symptoms, TSH levels, and measures of quality of life. Preliminary findings suggest that patients experienced symptomatic relief along with normalization of thyroid function test (TFT) results. The use of Shigru led to notable improvements in clinical symptoms, with TSH levels returning to normal in 7 out of 8 cases. This case series offers encouraging evidence that single drug therapy in Ayurveda can serve as an effective treatment for subclinical hypothyroidism. Additional studies with larger sample sizes and controlled designs are needed to confirm these results and better understand the underlying mechanisms

    Assessment of Medovaha Srotas Dushti in a case of Obesity with reference to Leptin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome

    Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial metabolic disorder characterized by abnormal or excessive fat accumulation, posing a major risk for various non-communicable diseases including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, and metabolic syndrome. One of the key hormonal disruptions in obesity is leptin resistance, where despite elevated serum leptin levels, the physiological satiety signals are blunted, leading to increased food intake and fat storage. From an Ayurvedic perspective, obesity correlates with Medoroga, which results from the vitiation of Kapha Dosha and Medovaha Srotas Dushti. Impaired Agni, accumulation of Ama, and sedentary lifestyle further aggravate this condition, creating a vicious cycle of Dosha, Dushya, and Srotas dysfunction. This case study presents a comprehensive assessment of Medovaha Srotas Dushti in an individual with clinically diagnosed obesity, supported by modern diagnostic parameters including Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR), lipid profile, fasting insulin, and serum leptin levels. The Ayurvedic examination was conducted using Dashavidha Pariksha, Srotodushti Lakshanas, and Agni-Vyavastha analysis. The patient also exhibited hallmark features of Metabolic Syndrome such as hypertriglyceridemia, central obesity, and insulin resistance, correlating with classical descriptions of Medodhatvagnimandya and Srotorodha. By establishing a link between Medovaha Srotas Dushti and leptin resistance, this study highlights the potential for a more integrated diagnostic and management approach in obesity and metabolic disorders. This case demonstrates that incorporating Ayurvedic concepts into modern frameworks can deepen our understanding of chronic metabolic diseases and guide personalized, holistic treatment strategies

    Modernization and sedentary lifestyles have led to a rapid rise in metabolic disorders, with obesity, or Sthaulya in Ayurveda, becoming a significant global health concern. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that obesity affects approximately half a billion people worldwide, making it a public health priority, especially in developing countries like India, where lifestyle disorders are prevalent. Obesity, a multifactorial nutritional metabolic disease, results from an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure, leading to excessive adipose tissue growth and severe health complications such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. Current treatments, including pharmacological interventions, often come with side effects, highlighting the need for preventive strategies. Ayurveda, a holistic health science, addresses both the prevention and treatment of obesity through Swasthavritta, which aims to maintain health and treat diseases by restoring homeostasis among the Tridosha, Saptadhatu, Agni, and Mala etc. This review explores the etiopathology of Sthaulya, its symptoms, and preventive measures such as Nidan Parivarjan (avoiding causative factors), Dinacharya (daily regimen), diet, and non-pharmacological methods like exercise and yogic practices. Emphasizing the principles of Swasthavritta, the review suggests that adopting an Ayurvedic lifestyle can significantly reduce the risk of obesity and its associated health issues, providing a comprehensive management protocol through diet, lifestyle modifications, and therapeutic interventions. This paper aims to offer insights into the aetiology, pathogenesis, and effective management strategies for obesity through Ayurveda and Yoga, addressing the global demand for sustainable obesity prevention and treatment methods

    Ayurvedic approaches to preventing Akalaja Jara: A Review

    Aging is an inevitable biological process that begins before birth and continues throughout life, with varying rates among individuals. Ayurveda classifies aging into three stages: Baalavastha (childhood), Madhyavastha (youth), and Vriddhavastha (old age), with Vriddhavastha/Jaraavasta typically starting between 60 to 70 years of age. In Ayurveda, Jara (aging) is categorized into Kalaja Jara (natural aging) and Akalaja Jara (premature aging). Akalaja Jara results from an imbalance in Ahara (diet), Vihara (lifestyle), and environmental factors, leading to early degenerative changes in Shareera (body) and Manas (mind). This review explores Ayurvedic approaches to preventing Akalaja Jara through various preventive measures such as Dinacharya (daily regimen), Sadvritta (ethical conduct), Shodhana Karma (purification therapies), and Rasayana Chikitsa (rejuvenation therapy). Dinacharya practices like Brahma Muhurta (early rising), Abhyanga (oil massage), Dantadhavana (oral hygiene), Anjana (eye application), Nasya (nasal therapy), and Vyayama (exercise) help align the body with natural rhythms and prevent premature aging. Shodhana Karmas such as Vamana, Virechana, and Basti aid in detoxification and Dosha balance, while Rasayana therapies provide nourishment, enhance immunity, and delay the signs of aging.     The rapid pace of modern living, coupled with poor lifestyle choices and environmental factors, has contributed significantly to the growing prevalence of Srotorodha (atherosclerotic vascular disease). In Ayurveda, maintaining a balance of Dosha, Dhatu, Mala and Agni is key to a healthy life. This balance is achieved through the continuous transport and circulation of these elements via the Srotas, the body\u27s internal transport system. These channels, which differ in size, are linked to various parts of the body and causes diseases when blocked. Atherosclerosis is a disease that is characterized by the accumulation of lipids, fibrous elements, and calcification within the large arteries. This process is initiated by endothelium activation, followed by a cascade of events, which implies the vessel narrowing and activation of inflammatory pathways leading to atheroma plaque formation. Atherosclerosis, the leading cause of cardiovascular diseases, primarily affects the heart and brain, resulting in ischemic heart disease (IHD) and ischemic stroke, which are the first and fifth leading causes of death worldwide, respectively. Srotosanga mentioned under Rasavaha Sroto Vikara is analogous to atherosclerotic vascular disease in modern medicine. In Ayurvedic practice the Rasaushadhies has been considered as more effective and beneficial due to lesser therapeutic doses, enhancement of action of other ingredients of formulation, more shelf life, quicker action and palatability as compared to herbal preparation. Rasaushadas which possess Kapha Medho hara, Lekhana Karma, Hridya, Ushna, Teekshna, Sukshma, Sara etc properties are useful in the management of atherosclerosis

    Agni is the principal component of the living body. It is responsible for all kinds of activities happening inside the body; therefore, Ayurveda considers that Dehagni is the cause of life, complexion, strength, health, and nourishment and also responsible for the causation of disease. Gut microbiota, or gut flora, are the microorganisms, including bacteria, archaea, fungi, and viruses, that live in the digestive tract. Collectively, they create the network system with all organs called as gut axis, which has tremendous potential to influence human physiology in terms of health and disease. Disturbance in Agni due to improper diet, lifestyle, and stress contributes to the development of dysbiosis, leading to various organ system diseases. Ashtanaga Hridaya has quoted “Sarve Rogau Api Mandagnau."How Agni is responsible for manifestation of all diseases can be understood by analysing the relationship between Agni and the gut microbiota. Gut microbiota communicates with every organ system in the body via the gut axis; impairment in the Agni has a direct effect over gut microbiota, leading to gut dysbiosis, and that which disturbs the gut axis leads to disease manifestations.     In Rasashastra different processes are mentioned as - Shodhan, Marana, Patan, Jaran etc. under Aushadh Nirman. These processes are done for various Rasa, Uparasa, Sadharana Rasa, Ratna and Uparatnas. Many methods of Bhasma preparation are also mentioned as we know Bhasma is one of the unique Ayurvedic metallic preparations with herbal juices. Bhasmas are used in the treatment of various chronic diseases. Classical standardization techniques under Bhasma Pareeksha like Rekhapurnatwa, Nishchandratwa, Varitartwa, Unnama, Apunarbhava etc. are well mentioned in classical texts that are used to standardize the preparation. If proper precautions are not taken during preparation of Bhasmas, there may be chances of improper incineration, leading to the formation of Ashuddha Bhasma, which contains toxicity and can cause complications.     A Critical Review of Sara Pariksha in Ayurveda: Challenges and Future Perspectives

    The entire wisdom of Ayurveda addresses leading a healthy life; individual-focused treatment is the key to good health. The oldest and most reliable science of life is Ayurveda. It provides detailed information on Dashavidha Aatura Pariksha. Sara is defined in Ayurveda as Saraha Vishuddhataro Dhatu, which translates to "essence of all Dhatu." Acharya Charaka described eight different kinds of Sara. Each is distinguished by both psychological and physical parameters. Physical constitution (Prakruti), morbidity (Vikruti), excellence of Dushya or tissue elements (Sara), compactness of tissues or organs (Samhanana), measurement of body constituents (Pramana), homologation (Saatmya), psychic condition (Satwa), power of food intake and digestion (Aaharshakti), power of exercise performance (Vyayam Shakti), and age (Vayah) for Bala Pramaan are the ten-fold examination of patients. Vikruti Pariksha is employed to access the Bala of Dosh, whereas the other nine are used to evaluate the Bala of Rogi. Studies suggest that certain mudras enhance blood circulation, stabilize autonomic nervous system responses, and improve oxygen saturation levels. Evidence also indicates that mudras, when practiced regularly, can aid in stress reduction, contributing to better cardiovascular health. Additionally, research on pranayama with mudras highlights its role in improving peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) and respiratory efficiency. Although direct studies on mudras are limited, findings from broader Yoga-based interventions support their potential benefits in cardiopulmonary function.
