Potential of Coconut Shell Liquid Smoke as a Natural Preservative for Tofu: A Study of Organoleptic Properties, Protein Content, and Ash Content

Tofu has a short shelf life, creating a demand for natural preservatives. This study evaluated the effect of coconut shell liquid smoke at 2%, 4%, and 6% concentrations on white tofu’s organoleptic qualities (color, aroma, texture) and proximate composition (protein and ash) over three days. Tofu was soaked in liquid smoke, then assessed by 15 panelists for sensory acceptance and tested in the lab for protein (Lowry method) and ash (dry ashing). Panelists generally liked the color, aroma, and texture, though aroma and texture declined over time. The highest protein content (1.45%) was seen on day one with 6% liquid smoke. Protein and ash levels did not meet Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 3142-2018. Results indicate coconut shell liquid smoke shows promise as a natural tofu preservative, but concentration and application need optimization to improve nutritional and sensory qualities to meet standards

This study explores how students perceive the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening (P5) program under the theme of Local Wisdom, focusing on both the positive and negative aspects experienced in classroom and project activities. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach involving 30 students from class XI SAINTEK 3 at SMAN 5 Palangka Raya. Data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews to capture a broader and more personal view of their learning experiences. Findings show that 63% of students expressed positive perceptions toward P5, while 37% viewed it less favorably. Students who responded positively described P5 as enjoyable and meaningful, particularly because they could engage directly with cultural practices and teamwork activities that reflected Pancasila values. In contrast, others noted issues such as unclear instructions, lack of organization, and additional material costs, which made the experience less engaging. These differences highlight that while the P5 program supports cultural appreciation and character development, its success depends greatly on facilitation, communication, and resource support. The study suggests that better planning, teacher guidance, and collaboration with local communities are needed to enhance the relevance and sustainability of P5 activities. Overall, the results reflect that the theme of Local Wisdom remains a strong yet challenging approach to cultivating civic and cultural values in the Merdeka Curriculum

This study analyzes the mediating role of financial behavior in the relationship between Islamic financial literacy and fintech experience on the financial well-being of university students in Banda Aceh. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through a structured survey involving 395 active students and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-AMOS). The findings show that Islamic financial literacy and fintech experience have significant direct and indirect effects on financial well-being, with financial behavior functioning as a strong mediator. Students with higher Islamic financial literacy tend to demonstrate more prudent, ethical, and Sharia-compliant financial actions that contribute to better financial outcomes. Meanwhile, extensive fintech experience enhances efficiency in financial management, yet its impact becomes optimal only when accompanied by disciplined financial behavior. The integrated model developed in this study successfully explains 80.6% of the variation in students’ financial well-being, indicating the strong influence of cognitive, experiential, and behavioral factors compared to demographic variables. These results highlight the importance of strengthening financial education, particularly by combining Islamic financial principles with digital financial literacy, to support students in navigating financial challenges in the digital era. The study also provides implications for educators, policymakers, and fintech providers in designing targeted interventions that promote responsible financial practices among young adults

Between Logic of Blessing and Accounting Rationality: Financial Reporting Formalization Process in a Sharia Property Developer

This research explores the meaning of accountability and the fundamental challenges arising during the transition from a manual reporting system to a formal accounting system in a non-bank Islamic property developer. Utilizing a qualitative approach with an in-depth design, the researcher served as a participant-observer for over five months at PT. Pandawa Lima Development in South Sulawesi. Data collection involved triangulation of semi-structured interviews, participant observations, and document analysis to ensure validity. The findings identify the existence of a "logic of blessing" as the dominant rationality replacing conventional market logic, manifested in the owner's migration story and the company's ability to survive three years without sales, interpreted as divine help. The formalization challenge was not merely technical but an intensive sense-making process to translate intuition-based practices into an inflexible account code structure. The study highlights that accounting formalization in this context is a negotiation between spiritual values and technical rigidity. This research contributes to the literature by providing bottom-up empirical data on accounting practices in non-banking Islamic entities and offers practical insights for integrating spiritual values into formal reporting systems without eroding the organization's unique ethos.

The Influence of Work Motivation, Compensation, and Work Climate on Employee Performance at PT Steelindo Wahana Perkasa Bangka Belitung

This study examines the extent to which work motivation, compensation, and work climate influence employee performance at PT Steelindo Wahana Perkasa Bangka Belitung, a palm oil company located in East Belitung Regency. The research aims to analyze both the partial and simultaneous effects of these variables to provide deeper insights into the determinants of employee performance within plantation-based organizations. A quantitative research design was employed by distributing structured questionnaires to all sixty employees using a five-point Likert scale. Data quality was ensured through validity and reliability testing, followed by classical assumption tests to confirm the suitability of the dataset for regression analysis. Multiple linear regression was used to evaluate the relationships between independent variables and employee performance. The findings indicate that work motivation has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, demonstrating the importance of psychological and intrinsic drivers in enhancing productivity. In contrast, compensation and work climate do not show significant individual effects, suggesting that financial rewards and environmental conditions alone are insufficient to boost measurable performance outcomes. When analyzed simultaneously, the three variables collectively produce a significant effect, as reflected in a coefficient of determination of 0.134. This outcome highlights that employee performance emerges from the interaction of multiple internal factors rather than a single dominant determinant. The study offers practical implications for developing more effective human resource strategies and encourages future research to incorporate broader organizational variables for a more comprehensive model of performance

The value of a company is one of the main considerations for investors when deciding to invest. A high company value reflects positive investor perceptions and indicates that the company has good future prospects. This research aims to analyze the effect of the investment opportunity set, company age, and managerial ownership on firm value. The study was conducted on manufacturing companies in the food and beverage sub-sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the period 2017 to 2021. The sampling technique used in this study is purposive sampling, where the sample is selected based on specific criteria relevant to the research objectives. As a result, 10 companies that met the criteria were chosen as the sample. The analytical method employed is multiple linear regression analysis, processed using the SPSS Version 26 software. The results of the study indicate that the investment opportunity set and company age do not have a statistically significant influence on firm value. In contrast, managerial ownership has a positive and significant effect on firm value. These findings suggest that the greater the ownership of shares by management, the more aligned management’s interests are with those of shareholders, thereby increasing firm value. The company value can be explained by its independent variables, namely the investment opportunity set, company age, and managerial ownership by 11.3%

Academic Reading Challenges in Higher Education: Identifying Barriers and Strategic Responses among EFL Students

Academic reading proficiency is a fundamental determinant of success in higher education, particularly for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. This study examined the challenges faced by English Education Study Program students at Pattimura University when reading academic articles. Employing a mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design, the research integrated quantitative survey data (n=39) with qualitative insights from focus group discussions (n=8) to examine reading difficulties, contributing factors, and strategic responses. Findings revealed a hierarchical pattern of challenges, with linguistic difficulties (M=3.31) representing the most significant barrier, followed by cognitive processing (M=2.99) and strategic processing challenges (M=2.93). Complex sentence structures (M=3.28) emerged as the dominant linguistic challenge, surpassing specialized terminology (M=3.18) and unfamiliar vocabulary (M=3.21). Reader factors (M=3.11), particularly motivational sustainability with longer texts (M=3.21), exerted slightly greater influence than contextual factors (M=2.91). Students employed diverse strategies to navigate these challenges, including pre-reading orientation, vocabulary support mechanisms, and emerging technology-assisted approaches, though collaborative reading remained underutilized. Identifying "strategic inertia"—students' reluctance to experiment with new approaches—represents a novel contribution to understanding reading strategy development in academic contexts. These findings suggest that practical approaches to developing academic reading skills must simultaneously address multiple dimensions, including linguistic features, cognitive processes, strategic approaches, and affective factors
