This report provides an integrated overview of the land capability, water availability and biodiversity assets of the Gunn Point area. The report should be read in conjunction with the Development Potential of the Gunn Point Area map which spatially distinguishes those areas with the greatest opportunity for development from areas where biophysical constraints could impact on development viability.
Further information is provided in six technical reports and a suite of accompanying maps, detailing the water resources, marine and coastal biodiversity, terrestrial biodiversity, vegetation communities and soil and land resources of the study area. Collectively the reports provide the most comprehensive biophysical assessment of any landscape within the Northern Territory.
This project has been undertaken to meet government?s obligation to provide a base assessment so that detailed project plans can be generated by a proponent and to ensure sufficient information is available for government to make informed regulatory decisions.
This project will enable government to progress from conceptual to detailed planning for the Gunn Point peninsula, resulting in zoning of land that maximises potential for sustainable development while preserving and protecting key environmental assets.1.
