Identification of the new Inacumba aquifer at Tanumbirini Station
This report aims to describe a newly discovered aquifer found in the sub-surface on Tanumbirini Station
and collate information that establishes its possible extent, continuity and hydraulic characterisation.
It also aims to clarify the stratigraphic relationships of the host geological formation and to establish a
name for the aquifer.
A reason for naming the aquifer is because this is the first instance where its existence has been
recognised. It therefore serves to provide distinction between it and other known aquifers in the region.
Its formal recognition will assist its protection and sustainable use through the water extraction
licensing process.1 Summary -- 2 Aim -- 3 Background -- 4 Description -- 5 Nomenclature -- 5.1 Gum Ridge Formation -- 5.2 Bukalara Sandstone -- 5.3 Sub-Kalkarindji Suite sandstones -- 5.4 Aquifer naming conventions -- 6 Inacumba aquifer attributes -- 6.1 Extent -- 6.2 Characteristics -- 7 List of references -- 8 AcknowledgementsMade available by via Publications (Legal Deposit) Act 2004 (NT)
