Big Kids On The Block
Whether in BIG groups, small groups, or
by themselves the grade nines of Hamilton
worked hard, played hard, and had fun. One
BIG group wondered where the red fence
went (Kirk Heppner, Darren Lindwall,
James Carefoot, Rory Freeman and Jeremy
Waterfield). The other BIG group (Ryan
Stauffer, Colin Gunter, Mike McNeely,
Jesse Poriz, Saqib Ali and Jeff Nickle) liked
to play ring around the flag pole or were
they having a yes-no referendum riot?
Small groups liked to participate in activities
like "Geek of the Week contest (A similar
contest to Student of the Week). We have
pictures of the male finalists (Brandon
Fletcher, Mike Mertz, and Steve Umeris)
and female finalists (Deanne Gaskarth,
Jessica Goertzen, Jennifer Palmer, and Kalie
Veres). Incidentally, they all tied for first
place.
Individually, students could be seen running
for students council (Michelle Stoffer)
or is she singing karaoke? One was doing
last minute homework (Andrea Green).
Another appeared intelligent or was he imitating
and owl (who's hoo, Lyle who, that's
hoo).
As you look through this yearbook your
memory will be jogged by the photographs.
In some cases they will be unusual memories
and other will simply represent day to
day Hamilton happenings. They show as
closely as possible, the real world of
Hamilton. That is important because in the
future, you will have forgotten some of the
things that seem so unforgettable now.
Grade nine is an end and a beginning.
Good luck in grade ten next year when you
will no longer be the BIG kids on the block!

Three years at HJH
These are a few of the thoughts
that some of the grade nines had
after reflecting on their time at
Hamilton Junior High.
There were many positive comments
such as: "I thought the last
3 years at Hamilton were the best
thing next to the invention of bubble
gum!"...Jessica Goertzen 9C.
"It was great "...Sarah Haskett 9C.
"I thought that the years at JHJ
were pretty good and I had a lot
of fun"...Sheila Christie 9A. "It's
been a blast!"...Carmen Kercher
9A. "I think Hamilton is a very
good school. The teachers help
out a lot. I've improved since I
first came here"...Shannon Hood
9A. "I thought that the sports programs
were really good. The
school facility has improved so
that it is almost the best that it
could be. The fund raiser is good.
More money should be spent on
core subjects"...Aaron Low 9A.
One student made a less positive
comment: "This school is
boring. Nothing happens, it's like
being on Sesame Street"...Allen
James 9C.
A few students couldn't decide
whether to be positive or
negative; "Ms. Huson was the
best teacher, and on the whole it
was like all schools; boring!"...
Amanda Adnitt 9C. The last 3
years at Hamilton were pretty fun.
Too bad everybody's so uptight
now!"... Michelle Stoffer 9C. "I
felt that some of the classes were
fun, and some could be boring. I
also liked the community phys.
ed. program that we had in grade
7 and 8. Some of the grade 9's
could be pushy at times"... Shelly
Bohachyk 9C. "It sucked because
you felt so stupid. Eight was
great (hey, that rhymes!) The
dances have been fun, but I wish
the school wasn't painted
pink!"... Alana Pentney 9A.
One poor student had a problem:
"It was good except my brain
rotted."...Randy Hatfield.
Overall, as you can see, most
students liked life at Hamilton
Junior High in some way. Three
big years of happy memories.
Scott Copeland Tamara Copeland
"Well, half my friends are crazy and the others are depressed and none of them can help me
study for my math test. I got into the classroom and my knowledge was gone; I guess I should
have studied instead of watching Wrath of Khan. (Grade 9 - Barenaked Ladies)

Next Year
Happenings
This year the grade nines were
the Big kids but next year in high
school they'll be the little grade
10's. Expectations of high school
were as varied as the students
when we asked them what they
thought high school would be
like.
Some students felt very positive
about their future in high
school:
"Meet a hot guy! (L.C.I. guys-
WOW)."...Kalie Veres 9B. "I feel
that it will be fun and it will be a
good challenge, and give me a
better chance for a good job." ...
Jeremy Waterfield 9E. "I'm gonna
be scared to go to a new school. I
want to be able to get into good
classes. I want to try and make the
volleyball team. I hope that it will
be lots of fun." ... Amy Welch
9E. "I expect high school to be a
little frustrating at first, but eventually
I'll get used to it, and it will
be okay" ... Brooke Peacock. "I
think that high school will be fun
and exciting. I also think that I
will be a little scared that I may
get lost"...Christie Malmberg 9E.
One felt rather negative about
the upcoming experience "Get
beat up at least once and get
annoying teachers." ... Tom
Peterson 9E.
"I HAVE NO IDEA"... Adrian
Berry 9E.
Finally, two students felt
expectations for them would be
high next year. "Homework,
homework, and more homework!!!!"...
Deanne Gaskarth 9B.
"I expect it should be a challenge"...
Kim Lipsett 9E.
Grade ten will certainly be different.
New kids, new teachers,
and a new school. In reality, most
students will experience all of the
above feelings. It will be confusing
at first. They'll find good and
bad about high school and they
will have to work hard. It will be
an EXPERIENCE.
Just remember to have fun!
Tracy Fan-
Daniel Garrett Jeremy Garrick
"Hey, like I'd almost finished my assignment when this guy, like with a camera, comes up and
takes my picture. Like, I'll bet they don't have to put up with this in high school. Wow, high
school, like where there’ll be a new building, new classes, new teachers, new subjects and new
guys. And, like, best of all, nobody interrupting me with a camera. Hey...what...the math's due
right now? Like, give me another minute - please?"

The Future
When asked the question,
"What would you like to be doing

9D.
Heidi Koegler (9G) wants to be
a psychologist. Danielle Dyke
(9D) thinks she'll be a psychopath!
Mike McNeely 9D would like
to run his own business, hopefully
in collectables, like sports cards,
coins, etc. Saxon Jones (9D)
would like to be making computer
software for people who need special
programs. Jennifer Salt would
like to be working as a vet. Tim
Debolt would like to be a doctor
helping poor families in third
world countries.
Oh well, 10 years is a long
time; maybe some of these things
will happen. It will be interesting
to see if they do!
Anyway, good luck grade 9's in
the future.

Changes for HJH
Michelle Staffer Jesse Supina
I
Raila Tucker Steven Umeris
Chris Wall Jeremy Waterfield
After 3 years, it's nice to think
about changing things around.
Some "old" Hamilton students
wanted these changes, some of
which would be pretty easy:
"To have more dances, but
keep up the Hamilton school
spirit." ... Rhianna Graham 9F.
"To be able to go to our lockers
after every period." ... Steve
Umeris 9F. "Put hooks in the
lockers." ...Darcy Holthe. "I
would change the number of
dances, because they are a great
place to unwind and hang out
with a friend! I wouldn't change
the Drama and Art teachers. They
are the best!" ... Stacey Boutland
9F.
Some of the suggested changes
might be a bit more difficult to
arrange:
"I would like to have a longer
lunch hour, get better options and
more of them and get soft toilet
paper." ... Alanna Hirsche 9F. "I
would change the color of the
walls in hallways of the twenties
and thirties rooms, (I don't like
pink!)" ... Karmen Kercher 9A.
"A longer lunch and no reading
period." ... Scott Ganes.
Some of the other suggested
changes would be even more difficult
to arrange:
"A new paint job and get new
ceilings in the Drama room and
have a bigger cafeteria with
tables. I wouldn't change the skywalk."
... Angelo Cultrera (A. "I
would change the color of the
school to yellow and I would ask
some teachers to retire and hire
some new, young, fun ones." ...
Amy Harbigde 9A. "Get a girls
ruby team and let us decorate the
exterior of our lockers." ...
Deanne Gaskarth. "I would
change too much homework to no
homework and have a couple of
spares"... Ian MacLachlan 9F.
Really though, Hamilton is
always different every year; even
the pink hallways will change —
someday! Besides, if it's mostly
lockers, paint and toilet paper that
need to change here at Hamilton
Junior High, it's been a pretty
good 3 years.

The Middle Year
Grade eight is a nothing year. The eights
feel that they're in the middle between the
7's and the 9's. They're not the leaders of the
school yet and they're not the babies anymore.
The girls (Taneill Soroka, Kelly Reeves,
Kristen Lorenz, Andrea Stewart, & Allison
Aldridge) seem to feel big and confident about
themselves. The boys (Lester Kwong,
Dustin Guenther, David MacKenzie, Jeff
Gordon, Quentin Boehr, David Gast, & Kris
Dyke) appear to need some help to get themselves
untangled.
Tracy McDonald is disgusted with the
antics of Greg Walkey and Ryan Hillmer. I
wonder what they did this time?!
Kari Gugala and Nikki Southgate are having
a good laugh. Are they thinking about
the boys or one of their favorite classes like
Social or language arts?
Overall, grade 8 is a year of anticipation.
Wanting to be the rulers of the school but
having to wait their turn one more year.
To make the time pass while waiting for
grade nine, they sleep in science, do math
homework in social and goof off during
gym.
A lot of them spend most of their time
after school in the detention room with Mr.
McDonald or Miss Hall. It's a great place to
study—the ceiling. Others opt to study the
insides of their eyelids during their DT's—
that's if they don't forget (skip).
The lockers still contain some strange
stuff in grade eight. Just ask Cara Varzari. (I
wonder what is in that locker?)
There are a few sad times, but after two
years at Hamilton, the times for big smiles
predominate. Just ask Kim Beck and
Christine Cook! Holly Selk's reactions to
grade 8 weren't quite as positive. Whether
individually or in groups, the grade eights
survived the middle year at Hamilton
remarkably well.

Big Change
Grade 7 is a year of change. A variety of
grade 7 students come to Hamilton from elementary
schools all over the city. Maybe they
start the year off being scared but it doesn't
take long for them to feel relaxed and to fit in.
Rob Stray fits the role of Steve Urkel and
seems to be saying "Did I Do That?" He
probably did! manipulate their faces to imitate a variety of
Matthew Livingstone tries hard to imitate
Steve...er...Rob and seems to be succeeding.
Girls, like Lindsay Guenther, try to look
like their big grade 9 brothers, but advertising
for "Coke" seems to be a better role for
her, and for Chelsea Donaldson.
Some Girls (Mackenzie Heward) try to
other famous people. Are you sure that
"Twisted Sister" really have mouths like
this? Maybe she's just discovering the problem
with leaving her September lunch in her
locker until locker cleanout at the Christmas
break!
Happy Stephanie wants us to pick up the
Pace a little and show the boys her winning
smile.
From Bonnie Parks to Jean Perks, here's a
group of happy students. Maybe they're all
hoping little hands will grow out of their
heads and they can all be like Jean.
The boys however are much more serious.
Sometimes, when they can't have fun in
usual ways, (like imitating TV stars or musicians),
they like to hang around the garbage
can. Maybe they're singing the "Garbage-
Picker Blues" for a 10 man choir in their
attempt to fit in.
All these grade seven kids seem to fit
right in at Hamilton. In fact, they are so
relaxed they'll probably stay for another 2 or
3 years. See you around grade sevens!

MILD WINTER SO FAR
This pivot picture was taken west of Snake Valley. Milo is at the centre right edge.
The photo was shot January 28th, and near or far, with the exception
of some shaded coulees at the edge of the valley, there is NO snow.
Roads are clear and dry, ranchers are happy, and Albertans wishing
to view deep snow merely have to turn on the TV to watch people in
Toronto try and get to and from work.

Boundaries
We hear a lot about boundaries these days. Things that were not thought anything of years ago
are now politically incorrect or offensive to some segment of society. And I suppose some of
that is for the good. But there are other boundaries that have shifted, and not for the good, in
my humble opinion.
At our house, dinner was a family time. There was no television left on, there were no telephone
calls allowed. It may not have been exciting, but we were a family.
In today's world, how many families sit down at a table, all at the same time and share a quiet
meal, uninterrupted? There are cell phones to look at, meeting/practice/something to get to.
The family taxi is wailing at the door so dinner is a rushed thing with no time to just be a family.
I low do we expect children to learn the sanctity of time, space and relationships? Parents need
to teach their children about boundaries.
And how do I expect them to do this? Limit technology's hold on them. There is no need for
cell phones in the eating area. There is no need for the television to be on. Dinner is a time to
sit down and discuss the good and bad of the day. Dinner is a time to be a family before there
is a need to fly off in different directions as the world claims as much of your time as it can.
How can one be connected to real people and the real world if there is chronic electronic
interference? Of course, 1 am one of those dinosaurs that doesn't even cariy a cell phone. If 1
was important enough, perhaps I might consider it but I can't think of too many people that I
need to hear from on an immediate basis. The constant demands on our limited resource (time)
should make us prioritize our lives. What are the limits you could impose on your life that
would be of benefit to you? And your family?

Notes from
Parliament byMartin
Shields
MP, Bow River
Constituency:
The 2019 Federal
election, and Oil &
Gas:
It's finally 2019, and the next federal election is right around
the corner. The election will be fought over a number of
important issues, but I think Canada's energy sector will be
front and center.
The issue of pipelines has dominated debate in our country for
years now. Unfortunately, I think that far too many Canadians
simply have no idea how much they benefit from our oil and
gas sector. It is a massive revenue source for the government,
and many key services like healthcare and the military are
funded by oil and gas. If you have a pension fund, it is likely
heavily invested in the sector. And the jobs and prosperity that
the industry creates have benefits from coast to coast to
coast.
Many of you have likely heard the ethical oil argument - but
we need Canadians across the country to understand it. When
we import oil, it doesn't come from environmentally
responsible oil industries. As our Conservative leader Andrew
Scheer recently said - the real dirty oil is from Saudi Arabia.
If we were to completely shut down Canadian energy
production (as some extremists seem to want, and as the
Prime Minister has said he wants to do) we would still need oil
and gas. So-called green energy sources have nowhere near
the capacity or technological viability to heat millions of home
and fuel transportation in a country as vast as ours. So we
would be using the same amount of oil and gas, but importing
it from countries with environmental regulations that simply
don't compare to Canada's.
I know that many of you in our riding already know how
beneficial our oil and gas industry is. The recent rally for
Canadian resources in Brooks had a massive turnout, and I
want to thank everyone who took time out of their day to
show their support. But we need more Canadians to know that
Canada is responsible for only 1.6% of global emissions and
that Canada is a major carbon sink. We need Canadians to
know that our oil and gas industry has made enormous strides
in producing energy more sustainably.
And we need Canadians to know that the Liberal government's
plan for our energy sector simply makes no sense.
I look forward to debating this issue throughout 2019.

Dear Editor.
This Christmas, families across
Canada exchanged gifts. Everything
from sweaters to cameras, fishing
lures to skis, shoes to basketballs,
sunglasses to cell phones. All these
gifts have one thing in common: they
are made with petroleum products.
They are transported to market with
gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. The
only part of their journey not fueled by hydrocarbons is
on the back of Santa’s sleigh and I’ve heard some
theories about Rudolph's nose.
Nineteen Newfoundlanders go to the cinema.
The ticket lady asks "Why so many of you?"
Buddy replies, "The film said 18 or over."
My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday. So I went to
our local pet shop and they were s70.00! Forget it, I thought, I can
get one cheaper off the web.
I was at an A.T.M, yesterday. A little old lady asked if I could check
her balance, so I pushed her over.
My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30 am. Can you believe
that! 2:30 am? Luckily for him I was still up playing my bagpipes.
The wife was counting all the nickels and dimes out on the kitchen
table when she suddenly got very angry and started shouting and
crying for no reason. "Of course," I thought to myself, "she's going
through the change."
The miracle of hydrocarbons has made the wishes of
countless Canadian children come true. It has also kept
them warm at night while they wait for the magic of
Christmas morning. Oil. gas. and fossil fuels make
Christmas happen. You might say that the luckiest child
of all is the one who receives a lump of coal in his
stocking.

Martin Shields,

My thoughts... RevereiA^ Crflpwh
The church is dying. We have heard this
quite a lot in recent years - probably since
the sixties when there were reports that God
was dead. Fake news! I think that there are
a lot of churches that have closed, but I am
not sure that it was for a lack of faith, more
likely an economic or societal shift.
Small towns struggle, and if they fail so does the local church. We can see
this first hand in the small communities that once dotted the prairies. The
elevator closes, the rail line is lost, the school, the grocery store, the gas
station are closed one by one. And so too will any church that once
thrived and grew. Its passing is mourned by those few that remain, but
we should rejoice that there once was a strong & living Christian presence
and that all those who passed through its doors have gone out into the
world with thq love of Christ in their heart.
The measurement of success has shifted from attendance and finances to
the impact,-the ministries that we provide to the local community and to
the world around us. As with most relationships, there will be an ebb and
flow, endings and beginnings. We cannot remain static in an everchanging
world. We must embrace new ways of being meaningful to the
world around us. We must be a reforming and renewing church. The
church has been relevant for 2,000 years, and it will be relevant long
after we have completed our mission in this world.
God is constant and faithful, from the beginning of time until the last
trumpet shall sound.

Turkey Curl MILO FAMILY CHRISTMAS
Kids curled with chickens to
win a Christmas gift prize.
Pictured at right is Jack
Gregoire with his prize and,
below, Wyatt Thompson,
tries his skill at the chicken
curl with mom Karlee.
December 14 was the warmest
family Christmas ever. The
event, held at the curling rink and
Lions Park, has been running 14
years.
We were able to have fireworks
this year and they were outstanding.
Many thanks to Tom
Grant for setting them off.
Pictures with Santa
Kids get to visit the jolly old man
himself, have the pictures printed
immediately, then decorate picture
frames (at right).
Adults tried their skills sliding
a turkey through the
"uprights". About twelve
people achieved that so a
playdown was held. Turkey
winner was Chad Monner
and runner ups Doug Headrick
and Mike Hingley won
the chickens.
Many thanks to the
sponsors and volunteers
that make this
event possible.

Years ago, a garage was often more than just a vehicle parking spot out of
the weather. This example had another structure on the back - perhaps a
small workshop. The view is panoramic, with Lake MacGregor left of frame
to the southeast, and the Buffalo Hills off to the right.

I didn't know
While having a profitable business is certainly nice, emphasizing on profits

-MEALS IN MINUTES-I
will be taking two weeks off this month. A well-deserved
break from the extremely busy few
months at the Vulcan Golf Course with Village's
Puttaway, and the insurance nightmare that I
have been dealing with for Village's Bistro. My
time off will be a time to reflect and consider the
future of my business in the changing times of the
world as we all now know it today. With rising
costs of gas, beef, pork and even basic pantry
staples, supply shortages of not only food items
but containers as well. I will do my best to keep
my prices as low as possible. I appreciate all the
support and understanding in these difficult times.
I have added Pork Schnitzel to the Basic 10
Menu. These meals are always available. They
are small meals, that you customize with your
preferred Starch and Vegetables! Each meal is
9.50 per meal. You can order as many as you
like and they will be delivered each Monday along
with my weekly deliveries.

Vulcan County Division 5 Update
I am Kelly Nelson your new Councillor for
Division 5 in Vulcan County. I grew up in Vulcan
and have lived in the Milo area for the last 30 or
so years. I farm with my husband, son and his
girlfriend, near Shouldice. If you would like to
contact me, my email for the County is
[email protected] and my phone number,
which will not be active until close to the middle
of November is 403-423-0149.
With the municipal election being so late in
October, I have only attended Orientation and
one Council meeting so far. I really enjoyed the
Orientation session, and found it very
informative. Our first meeting was the
organizational meeting. I will be representing
the County on the Milo Rec. Board and the Milo
Fire Department for local groups. Shane
Cockwill will be representing the County on the
Milo Seed Cleaning Association.
The MPC and Council agendas were light and
mostly included updates and information on
what is currently
going on at the
County. Most of
the seasonal
crews are done
for the winter.
Road crew has
finished the
miles 5 and 6 rebuild on the Marshall road.
Gravel crew hauled gravel and stockpiled. The
County is working on moving the proposed
Marina at Lake McGregor, with help from the
Milo Library and Archives, hopefully they have
found a spot that everyone will agree to.
The only Council meeting for November is on
the 3rd, the reason for this is twofold; first we
will be in budget meetings from the 16th to the
18th and RMA holds a convention on the third
week . I will also be taking the Municipal 101
course during the RMA convention.
I am looking forward to serving Division 5!

Editor's note: In honour of Remembrance Day, we are reprinting this story from 2013.
Some interesting comments were added in 2020 on the Palliser School Division web page.
Palliser Regional School News Nov 8,2013
Milo students remember one of their own 70 years later
Milo School and the Lions Club of Milo joined forces to create a special Remembrance Day Service,
recognizing the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters and Operation Chastise, considered one of the
most daring air raids of the Second World War.
Students from Milo
School gathered
Thursday to honour
Canada’s veterans, and
learn more about a
hometown war hero
long since passed.
A seven-minute
documentary about
Harlo “Terry” Torger
Taerum was shown
during the community
event, documenting the
Milo School graduate’s
pivotal role as a
member of 617
Squadron and the
celebrated Dambusters.
I;. W . ;
V / 1
During Operation Chastise in May 1943,19 Lancaster
bombers flew a top-secret mission aimed at destroying
three dams in the Ruhr Valley. The mission succeeded at
destroying two dams and damaging the third.
Taerum was hand-picked to serve as the lead navigator on
the mission, considered one of the most daring air raids of
the Second World War. He received the Distinguished
Flying Cross for his exceptional navigational skills that
safely guided the Lancasters at such low altitudes that
navigational equipment would not function. Instead, the
southern Albertan used a compass, landmarks and the
stars as his guides.
While the video documented Taerum’s heroics with
Bomber Command, two of Taerum’s school mates in
attendance at the ceremony reflected on their own
memories of the wartime hero.
Harold and Janetta Northcott both knew Taerum in his
school days, when he was known as “Torger.”
“He was a top guy," recalled Harold, a still spry 95-year-old.
“We played football together."
Janetta, who attended Milo High School with Taerum,
remembered him as an excellent student who had “such a
heavy load to carry.”
Taerum was the oldest of four children and was just 11
when his father drowned in Lake McGregor. Though still
just a boy himself, Taerum helped his mother Hilda run the
family farm. Janetta remembers Taerum riding his bicycle
to and from the Milo High
School every day from a
farm nearly 10 kilometers
out of town, doing farm
chores at home, and still
managing to be an
excellent student.
Harold, who was a couple
years ahead of Taerum at
Lake McGregor School, an
elementary and junior high,
recalls Taerum arriving at
school on a horse pulling a simple two-wheeled cart. In the
cart were his three younger siblings who were too small to
make the nearly 6.5-kilometre route to school.
The Northcotts’ daughter Kathy said it’s wonderful to share
Taerum’s story with students at Milo School.
“Here he was, just a kid from Milo,” Kathy said. “It shows
we can do great things and we can make a difference."
He wasn’t the only war hero celebrated at the event. Grade
8 students, John Bertschy, Nash Nelson and Chris
Thornley,

My thoughts... Revered c^ordouv Crfti/tch
I told those at church some time ago that Reese came
up to me at lunch one Sunday and asked me how to
get to heaven. I was kind of dumbstruck by the
question, especially as Reese is not yet 4. I gave a
suitably glib answer, but I continued to think about it
and on the next Sunday I gave a slightly more
• definitive answer.
I have been thinking about the question on and off ever since. I suppose it takes on a
slightly different sense of urgency at 72 than it does at age 4. All the songs and
hymns that we sing Sunday by Sunday about heaven and the great reunions with
those we have loved and have gone before us. But that doesn't answer the question of
how we get to heaven. Last month, we had our usual Maundy Thursday dinner and
went on to commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus and His disciples. At that time
Jesus gave us His directions for eternal life. This is His summary of the great
Commandments. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour
as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." If we
can do just these two things everything else will fall into place. What surer path to
Heaven can there be?
All the promises that we have received are awaiting their fulfillment. We will be
reunited with those we have loved and lost. We will, with God's help, one day reach
that eternal shore.
Whatever age we are now, we are fortunate to have lived and grown up in such a time
of medical advances that have assisted us in living this long. And we look forward to
even greater advances that will offer longer and better lives to us.
We must always remember that our time on earth is limited and we must do our part
while we are here. But this life will surely end one day and we will die. The perishable
cannot inherit the imperishable.
That is how we get to heaven.

Things We Have Learned
• I’ve learned that I like my teacher because she cries when
we sing “Silent Night". - Age 6
• I’ve learned that you can’t hide a piece of broccoloi in a
glass of milk. - Age 7
• I’ve learned that when I wave to people in the country, they
stop what they are doing and wave back.
- Age 9
• I've learned that just when I get my room the way I like it,
Mom makes me clean it up. - Age 13
• I've learned that if you want to cheer yourself up, you
should try cheering someone else up. - Age14
• I've learned that although it’s hard to admit it, I’m secretly
glad my parents are strict with me. - Age 15
• I've learned that silent company is often more healing than
words of advice. - Age 24
• I've learned that brushing my child's hair is one of life’s
pleasures. - Age 26
• I've learned that wherever I go, the world’s worst drivers
have followed me there. - Age 29
• I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about
me, I must live so that no one will believe it.
- Age 39
• I’ve learned that there are people who love you dearly, but
just don’t know how to show it. - Age 41
• I’ve learned that you can make someone’s day by simply
sending them a little card. - Age 44
• I've learned that the greater a person’s sense of guilt, the
greater his need to cast blame on others - Age 46
• I've learned that children and grandparents are natural
allies. - Age 47
• I’ve learned that singing “Amazing Grace” can lift my spirits
for hours. - Age 49
• I've learned that motel mattresses are better on the side
away from the phone. - Age 50
• I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a man by the way
he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage,
and tangled Christmas tree lights.-Age 51
• I've learned that keeping a vegetable garden is worth a
medicine cabinet full of pills. - Age 52
• I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your
parents, you miss them terribly after they die.
- Age 53
• I’ve learned that making a living is not the same as making
a life. - Age 58
• I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second
chance. - Age 62
• I’ve learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher’s
mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw
something back. - Age 64
• I’ve learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you.
But if you focus on your family, the needs of others, your
work, meeting new people, and doing the very best you
can, happiness will find you. - Age 65
• I’ve learned that whenever I decide to do something with
kindness, I usually make the right decision. - Age 68
• I’ve learned that it pays to believe in miracles, and , to tell
the truth, I've seen several. - Age 73
• I’ve learned that when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.
- Age 82
• I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch
someone. People love that human touch - holding hands,
a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. - Age 85
• I've learned that I still have a lot to learn. - Age 92

SYNC returns: Free summer
audiobooks for teens
What is
SYNC?
SYNC is a free program for
teens 13+ that will give
away two complete audiobook
downloads every
week through July, pairing
high-interest titles with
weekly themes. It's the
perfect program to encourage
teens to read more so
they don’t end up wandering
into that most dreaded
of all places to be while
they’re on vacation - the
summer slide...
Join us on Tuesday, April
23 to learn more about the
program, including how
and why titles are chosen
and paired together, how it
works in conjunction with
the OverDrive app, why
audiobooks play an important
part in teen reading
habits.
