The high mountain territory of Tenerife, rough and difficult to inhabit, not only because of its geolo-gical conditions, butal so because of its climate, was the object of a long Guanche occupation, which began at least sincethe 5th century AD. The studies carriedout in recent years allow us to propose new approaches to the unique model of pastoralist territorial occupation proposed by Luis Diego Cuscoy, to evaluate other possible causes to explain the presence of the Guanches in the Cañadas del Teide, as well as to lay the foundations for analyzing the possible changes that occurred throughout the history of their occupation. In short, the purpose of this workis to present some data on the indigenous settlement of the high mountain of Tenerife, in the light of the results obtained in two specificareas of the insular summit: the funerary spaces and the production spaces.040,0Q14,

The exponential boom in audiovisual content creation this century has led to a significant increase in the translation of audiovisual texts, and, subsequently, in the study of these translations from a wide range of perspectives. Likewise, an increasing amount of attention has been paid to swearing as a social phenomenon, its representation in different types of texts and the ways in which this type of language is then rendered in translation. The last twenty years have seen an upsurge in the research carried out on the translation of swearing in films and series, typically in the rendering in other languages of expressions considered vulgar, rude, foul, blasphemous or taboo that were originally uttered by fictional characters in English. More recently, with the emergence and boom of streaming platforms, an increased amount of audiovisual fiction has been translated into English. In this context, this study describes and analyses the swear words used in the original Neapolitan dialect of the Italian series Gomorrah, based on the type of swearing used, the systems of reference alluded to by taboo expressions and the functions said instances of swearing fulfill. In a second step, it also presents translations of these elements in the English (subtitled) version and the Spanish (dubbed) version, in the light of the constraints involved in each of the modalities of audiovisual translation and the translation techniques used, together with an indication as to whether or not the strength of the language used has been intensified, preserved or attenuated in each translated versionIçinde bulunduğumuz yüzyılda görsel-işitsel ürünlerdeki üstel artis, görsel-işitsel metinlerin çevirisinde önemli bir artışa ve buna bağlı olarak bu çevirilerin geniş bir yelpazede incelenmesine yol açmıştır.

Characteristics and outcomes of older patients undergoing out‐ versus inpatient surgery in Europe. A secondary analysis of the Peri‐interventional Outcome Study in the Elderly (POSE)

    No full text
Background The number of older patients undergoing surgical procedures with anaesthesia care is projected to rise. In order to cope with the increased demand, the expansion of outpatient surgery may play a decisive role. We aim to investigate the characteristics and outcomes of the older outpatient population. Patients and Methods The Peri-interventional Outcome Study in the Elderly in Europe (POSE) was a prospective multicenter study investigating characteristics and outcomes in 9497 patients aged 80 years and older undergoing a procedure with anaesthesia care. This secondary analysis of the POSE data investigated characteristics, functional and cognitive outcomes, and mortality in the outpatient in comparison to the inpatient population. Functional status was assessed as independent, partially dependent, and totally dependent at baseline and 30 days postinterventional. Cognitive status was defined by the number of recalled words (0–3) in the Mini-Cog test and brief cognitive screening at baseline and follow-up. Results Out of the 9497 older patients, 7562 were planned inpatients and 1935 planned outpatients. Older outpatients presented with fewer comorbidities and fewer medications than older inpatients and underwent minor procedures more often Their baseline functional status was more often independent, and they had a higher estimated probability of staying independent. Outpatients recalled three words at baseline and follow-up more often than inpatients. The estimated 30-day survival probabilities with 95% confidence intervals were 0.997 [0.994; 0.999] in the group with planned outpatient surgery and 0.948 [0.942; 0.953] with planned inpatient surgery. Conclusion Our results indicate that functional and cognitive status at baseline and follow-up were higher in planned outpatients than in planned inpatients. However, only short screening tools for the assessment of functional and cognitive status were used. Overall, outpatient interventions were associated with low mortality. Further research is recommended to develop scores that facilitate the identification of patients suitable for outpatient surgery.100,7431,9Q1Q2SCIE11,

Trends in vascular surgery activity: results from an 18-year period (from 2005 to 2022) and need for specialists by 2035

    No full text
Introduction: human resource planning for health is extremely important to adequately respond to the challenges of the specialty and thus assess both our activity and the vascular medical workforce. Objectives: to identify trends in diagnosis, procedures and costs of the specialty of Angiology and Vascular Surgery in Spain over a period of 18 years and analyze the number of specialists needed with a time horizon set in 2035. Methods: we conducted a retrospective, observational, population-based study to analyze the activity of vascular surgery services in Spain and a cross-sectional study to analyze the current situation of the workforce in said services. Material: annual activity data in vascular surgery departments from 2005 through 2022 from the national Minimum Basic Data Set (MBDS) available at https://pestadistico.inteligenciadegestion.sanidad.gob.es/PUBLICOSNS were analyzed, as well as the APR (All refined patient costs) cost data, available since 2016. Age- and sex-adjusted crude incidence rates were calculated for all diagnoses and procedures. Generalized linear models (GLM) were used to estimate trends. A survey was conducted among SEACV members and an estimate was made based on headcounts (number of vascular surgeons) and full-time equivalents (FTE) of vascular surgeons. Results: between 2005 and 2022, the adjusted rate of diagnoses increased from 102.5 (95 % CI, 101.5-103.4) per 100,000 inhabitants in 2005 up to 237.1 per 100,000 inhabitants (95 % CI, 235.7-238.4) in 2022. The annual linear trend of the estimated total diagnosis rate shows a similar increase in all groups, with no interaction effect by sex or age (IRR, 1.02, 95 % CI, 1.01-1.04, p = 0.001).The adjusted rate of procedures increased from 215.4 (95 % CI, 214216.8) per 100,000 inhabitants in 2005 up to 521.7 (95 % CI, 519.7-523.7) in 2022. 2022.The annual lineartrend in the estimated total procedure rate was higher in 65 years, IRR, 1.01 (95 % CI, 0.99-1.03) and 1.03 (95 % CI, 1.01-1.05) respectively. The mean APR cost in 2016 was 4,200.44 vs 4,867.43 in 2022. The estimated annual increase adjusted for age and sex was 133.36 (95 % CI,-2.6-269.3, p = 0.054). The growth in demand for stroke specialists between 2023-2035 (based on a system dynamics model) will be 45 %. From the current 985 up to the 1,430 that will be needed in 2035 according to the trends defined in diagnoses and procedures. Compared to a 19.6 % growth in supply for the same period up to the 1,169 estimated for 2035. Conclusions: this nationwide study shows that there is an upward trend in the incidence of vascular disease. There are very few studies worldwide that perform calculations in FTE, despite being the international recommendation. There is a difference in the calculation of the needs for vascular surgeons depending on whether the calculation is made one way or another, with FTE being a more complete-also a more complex-form of calculation.209120,123Q4ESC

Online signature verification based on the lagrange formulation with 2D and 3D robotic models

    No full text
Online Signature Verification commonly relies on function-based features, such as time-sampled horizontal and vertical coordinates, as well as the pressure exerted by the writer, obtained through a digitizer. Although inferring additional information about the writer's arm pose, kinematics, and dynamics based on digitizer data can be useful, it constitutes a challenge. In this paper, we tackle this challenge by proposing a new set of features based on the dynamics of online signatures. These new features are inferred through a Lagrangian formulation, obtaining the sequences of generalized coordinates and torques for 2D and 3D robotic arm models. By combining kinematic and dynamic robotic features, our results demonstrate their significant effectiveness for online automatic signature verification and achieving state-of-the-art results when integrated into deep learning models.112,7327,5Q1Q1SCIE11,
