La Traducción Para El Doblaje Del Inglés Afroamericano Del Discurso Femenino
Programa de Doctorado en Estudios Lingüísticos y Literarios en sus Contextos Socioculturales por la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran CanariaThe core of this thesis is the analysis of the translation for dubbing of African American
English (AAE) into Spanish in Spain, specifically, the variation known as African
American Women’s Language (AAWL), applying the methodology of Descriptive
Translation Studies (DTS). In order to achieve this goal, we have done research on the
background of all the topics that converge in the present study: audiovisual translation
(AVT) –primarily dubbing–, linguistic variation –focusing on AAE in general, and
AAWL in particular–, and DTS.
Additionally, and in the interest of getting a general vision on the current state of
audiovisual productions centred around the African American community in the USA,
we carried out a historical review of the presence of this community in Hollywood, both
on cinema and television, and how it influences the racial identity of this segment of
society. Furthermore, we analyse the way the use of AAE has evolved over time on
screen, as well as how the presence of African American women in this industry has
increased due to a number of factors.
Our dissertation explores the way translators deal with such a distinct dialect in a country
like Spain, where an equivalent language does not exist. The specificity of this variety
lies on the historical ties of the African American population to slavery, and its main
characteristics have been thoroughly studied through the years (Wolfram & Thomas,
2002). However, there has been a surge in recent decades to focus on aspects of it that
remain largely unexplored, such as variations within the dialect (AAWL, for example)
and some of its linguistic features (e. g., prosody).
Following a series of steps that Chaume Varela (2018) devised to help researchers who
choose to apply the methodology of DTS to their investigations, we compared the source
text of our object of study, the first season of the HBO series Insecure (2016–2021), to
the dubbed version broadcasted in Spain, focusing on how the distinct features of the
AAWL (which we had previously identified and organised in three categories:
phonological, lexical and grammatical) have been transferred. We classified the instances
according to two strategies: whether there was an effort to convey the original features in
the translated version (preservation) or not (neutralization). Subsequently, we analysed the techniques used in the translation process and extracted
the data, presenting them both quantitatively (in the form of tables and graphics) and
qualitatively (discussing examples). This process allowed us to formulate translation
norms and, eventually, the translation method in accordance with them. Finally, we
compared our findings to previous works on the same topic and explored further lines of
research

Effects of the utilization of a local cereals and forage -based diet on productive performance and egg quality in three free-range hen genotypes
Meeting consumer demand for eggs is dependent to a major extent on the availability of regular supplies of appropriate, cost-effective and safe animal feeds. Greater utilization of local feedstuffs, such as cereals and forages, is being encouraged for small and medium-sized poultry farmers for increasing poultry production, and enhancing food security. This research paper addresses the effects of a diet based on local cereals and forage on productive performance and egg quality in three hen genotypes (Lohmann White, Canarian, and Franciscana) reared under free-range conditions during 16 weeks. The results showed that hens fed with the commercial formula exhibited better body weights, laying rates, feed conversion ratios, and laid heavier eggs than the hens fed with the experimental diet. On the other hand, yolk color of hens fed with local cereals and forage were paler and less red and yellow than those fed with a commercial layer feed. Nevertheless, chemical composition and fatty acids profile of egg yolks were not altered by the diet factor. Finally, untrained consumers pointed out that the control eggs had a better score in terms of external and internal assessments than experimental eggs, but did not find differences for aroma and taste. In conclusion, it seems clear the need to introduce changes in the formulation of the local diet that may improve the productive performance and the quality of the eggs. This improvement must be consolidated by incorporating external amino acids, pigments and enzymes.70,5181,6Q2Q2SCIE11,
Comparative Analysis of Despeckling Filters Based on Generative Artificial Intelligence Trained with Actual Synthetic Aperture Radar Imagery
The speckle is a granular undesired pattern present in Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. Despeckling has been an active field of research during the last decades, with approaches from local filters to non-local filters that calculate the new value of a pixel according to characteristics of other pixels that are not close, the more advanced paradigms based on deep learning, and the newer based on generative artificial intelligence. For the latter, it is necessary to have a large enough labeled dataset for training and validation. In this study, we propose using a dataset designed entirely from actual SAR imagery, calculated by multitemporal fusion operations to generate a ground truth reference, which will yield the models to be trained with the actual speckle patterns in the noisy images. Then, a comparative analysis of the impacts of including the generative capacity in the models is performed through visual and quantitative assessment. From the findings, it is concluded that the use of generative artificial intelligence with actual speckle exhibits notable efficiency compared to other approaches, which makes this a promising path for research in the context of SAR imagery.241,0914,2Q1Q1SCIE10,
The Subjectivity of Subjective Well-Being
Subjective well-being, influenced by various factors such as personality and interpersonal relationships, is crucial to the happiness of everyone. This article presents the findings of a mixed-method and exploratory study on subjective well-being among university students, focusing on understanding their individual perceptions and how these influence their happiness. Utilizing social representations theory and Reinert’s lexical analysis method, the study examined conceptions of happiness and the contributing factors among participants. The findings revealed that perceptions of happiness among university students clustered into four distinct classes, highlighting two primary dimensions: personal life evaluation and emotional experience. These dimensions influence personal balance and participants’ basic needs. Additionally, the analysis identified three classes of factors influencing happiness, including life circumstances, personal factors, and social environment. The importance of mental health and interpersonal relationships in the emotional well-being of young university students was underscored. These findings emphasize the complexity of subjective well-being and the significance of addressing both emotional and contextual aspects to understand and enhance happiness and life satisfaction in this population.110,5072,0Q1Q1SSCI10,5ERIH PLU
Application of shape analysis for the identification of pelagic fish stocks
This study explores local variations in body and otolith shape of Trachurus trachurus from the Ibero-Mauritanian coastal stock in the South European Atlantic Shelf ecoregion, essential for effective stock management. We used geometric morphometrics and wavelet functions to analyze samples from Galicia, Peniche, and the Gulf of Cádiz. Comparing fresh and frozen specimens revealed significant shape changes due to freezing. Our results confirm that unique environmental conditions in the South European Atlantic Shelf ecoregion contribute to distinct local populations. The northern population had a more elongated body and lanceolate otoliths, while the southern population displayed a wider body and oval otoliths. Central region specimens exhibited intermediate characteristics. Four distinct morphotypes were identified, with region-specific distributions. These findings suggest local adaptations within the Ibero-Mauritanian stock, emphasizing the need to account for these differences in management strategies to ensure sustainability. Future studies should include larger, more diverse samples, especially from the Mediterranean, to further understand stock structure.28692847230,7742,2Q1Q1SCIE11,

Cytoreductive Surgery (CS) with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC): Postoperative Evolution, Adverse Outcomes and Perioperative Risk Factors
Background: Cytoreductive surgery (CS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) increases survival in peritoneal carcinomatosis, but complications may affect the long-term prognosis. We aimed to evaluate the postoperative evolution after CS + HIPEC, the appearance of adverse outcomes, and the associated risk factors. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study evaluating clinical practice in patients undergoing CS + HIPEC from 2016 to 2023 in a tertiary-level university hospital. The pre-, intra-, and postoperative variables were collected. The postoperative evolution, the appearance of postoperative complications, and the mortality were analyzed according to the perioperative data. Results: In total, 62.3% of the patients developed some kind of complication. Renal failure was related to the length of surgery [mean difference (md) 111 min, 95% CI 11–210, p = 0.029], postoperative vasoactive support [Odds Ratio (OR) 3.4, 95% CI 1.1–10.6, p = 0.033], and non-invasive mechanical ventilation (OR 5.5, 95% CI 1.5–20.5, p = 0.007). Respiratory failure was associated with renal replacement therapies (OR 13.8, 95% CI 1.3–143.9, p = 0.006), postoperative creatinine (md 0.27 mg·dL−1, 95% CI 0.1–0.4, p = 0.001), and C-reactive protein (md 33.5 mcg·L−1, 95% CI 0.1–66.8, p = 0.049). Infectious complications were related to the length of surgery (md 84 min, 95% CI 12–156, p = 0.024), non-invasive mechanical ventilation (OR 4.4, 95% CI 1.2–16.1, p = 0.018), and renal replacement therapies (OR 11.6, 95% CI 1.1–119.6, p = 0.012). The hospital stay was longer in patients with complications (md 14.8 ± 5.5 days, 95% CI 3.8–25.8, p = 0.009). The mortality rate at 12 months was 15.6%. The mortality risk factors were the preoperative hemoglobin (md −1.7 g·dL−1, 95% CI −2.8–−0.7, p = 0.001) and creatinine (md −0.12 mg·dL−1, 95% CI −0.21–−0.04, p = 0.007) and the postoperative hemoglobin (md −1.15 g·dL−1, 95% CI 0.01–2.30, p = 0.049) and C-reactive protein (md 54.6 mcg·L−1, 95% CI 18.5–90.8, p = 0.004). Intraoperative epidural analgesia was found to be a protective factor for 12-month mortality (OR 0.25, 95% CI 0.07–0.90 p = 0.027). A multivariate analysis performed after a univariate analysis showed that the only risk factor for overall mortality was not using intraoperative epidural analgesia. Conclusions: CS + HIPEC led to a high incidence of postoperative complications, but the occurrence of complications did not seem to affect postoperative survival.150,6062,4Q2Q2ESCI8,
