Social Network Analysis on the Discourse of Independence in West Papua during Indonesian Elections
This study investigates the digital political discourse on the Free Papua movement by analyzing narrative patterns, social network structures, and the role of key actors on social media platforms. Drawing on Social Network Analysis and sentiment analysis of 50,000 tweets from 2019, the research identifies three ideological clusters: Pro-Papua Merdeka, Pro-NKRI, and Neutral. The findings reveal high modularity in 2019, indicating growing fragmentation and polarization. Pro-Papua Merdeka narratives emphasize emotional and identity-based themes, whereas Pro-NKRI emphasizes themes of nationalism and state sovereignty. Neutral actors serve as bridges by disseminating factual content. The application of Connective Action Theory shows that both camps mobilize support through personalized storytelling and decentralized engagement. However, echo chambers hinder interaction across groups. The study emphasizes that platform-specific dynamics shape discourse differently, with Twitter intensifying polarization, Facebook facilitating discussion, and Instagram enabling broader yet less intense engagement. Recommendations include strengthening the role of neutral actors, addressing socio-economic grievances, and amplifying local voices to support inclusive and constructive dialogue
Critical Discourse Analysis of Media Discourse Related to the Impact of AI on Jobs: Corpus-Assisted
This study employs Fairclough's three-dimensional model through corpus methods to analyze media discourse on the impact of AI on jobs, by uncovering themes and modality that affect the audience’s perception. A corpus of BBC YouTube channel interviews discussing AI and jobs was compiled, with a size of 16486 words. Quantitative-based thematic analysis is conducted to determine the most common themes introduced using n-grams, concordance, and frequency analyses, using AntConc. The findings reveal the common modal verbs used, analyzing the epistemic and deontic, to represent the impact of AI technology through a balanced narrative of optimism and caution, emphasizing ethical responsibilities for governments and individuals. The analysis also highlights both the potential of AI in the workplace and the need for regulations, with a focus on the impact of technological advancements on public understanding, using modality to engage audiences with AI’s implications. CDA of media discourse also highlights how discourse reinforces power dynamics and ideologies, promoting equality in skill development while addressing risks of AI and opportunities. It is recommended to conduct further analysis of other linguistic items and other frameworks that discover ideologies behind discourse in different news and social media platforms related to AI in different fields
Green Social Media Influencers’ Characteristics Affect Sustainable Clothing Purchase Intentions Among Millennials: An Extended Source Credibility Framework
The fashion and apparel industry has been growing tremendously due to fast fashion and it has caused detrimental effects on the environment, which make it the second dirty industry. Thus, to shape the favorable perception of the fashion apparel industry, businesses have tried to align the sustainability practices in their products and supply chains, including the use of green social media influencers (SMIs) to gauge the favorable image in the consumers’ eyes. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate Millennials' intentions to purchase sustainable clothing which are impacted by the green SMI characteristics, namely attractiveness, trustworthiness, and expertise which derived from the source credibility framework and extended the two characteristics, interactivity and credibility to further expand the framework. Purposive sampling was applied to gather data from a self-administered questionnaire. The data was provided by valid 384 respondents who have followed green SMI and were currently residing in Malaysia. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was then used to analyze the data via the Regression analysis. The results indicated that the attractiveness, credibility, and expertise of green SMIs were the predictors of purchase intentions. However, the trustworthiness and interactivity of the green SMIs were not significant predictors. This study urged the sustainable fashion industry/ business to carefully select green SMIs who are credible and experts in environmental knowledge to avoid the greenwashing and skepticism effects. Conclusion, implication, and future research pathways were discussed
Multi-Cut Implementation of Hub-and-Spoke Problem with Congestion Consideration
In this study, we examine a p-hub location problem where the objective function encompasses regular transportation costs, fixed expenses, and congestion costs associated with hubs. We demonstrate that the model for this problem is a convex mixed integer programming problem. To solve the problem, we introduce a multi-cut cutting-plane method and compare its performance to the existing single cut version method. Our findings show that the multi-cut method outperforms the single-cut method in terms of the time required to reach a solution. The results of numerical experiments conducted to support this comparison are also presented

Innovation of Talent Cultivation System of Education Disciplines in Comprehensive Universities in the Context of New Liberal Arts Construction
Under the New Liberal Arts initiative, comprehensive universities’ education disciplines face a dilemma: talent cultivation systems lag behind societal demands, showing insufficient interdisciplinary integration and a theory-practice disconnect. This paper, backed by educational engineering theory and centered on training “educational engineers” via the“Applied Educational Studies” major, presents five innovation paths. They are aimed at producing top-notch talents matching the times’ needs and boosting the education field’s ongoing progress and innovation
An Investigation on English Teaching Methods in Junior High School Based on Project-based Learning
Project-based teaching is a student-centered teaching method that conducts project exploration around real problems. It emphasizes both learning outcomes and processes, advocates cooperative learning and diversified evaluation, and aims to cultivate students’ problem-solving abilities and core competencies. This study explores English teaching methods in junior high school based on project-based learning. It details an English class adopting this approach, focusing on student participation and teacher-student interaction. A comprehensive evaluation of the case is made considering teaching objectives, content, student engagement, and effectiveness. It shows that project-based learning can enhance students’ comprehensive English abilities, arouse learning enthusiasm, and cultivate collaborative and problem-solving skills. However, there are issues like insufficient teaching resources and poor time management. Suggestions are provided to promote the wider and more effective application of project-based learning in junior high school English teaching, thus improving the overall English teaching efficiency
Bad News and Voter Apathy in Cameroon
The Cameroonian society is overwhelmed with bad news, which we conjecture as having a negative spillover on electoral participation. Contextually, 2025 is a crucial presidential election year in Cameroon, and participation is largely considered the lifeblood to sustain the country’s contested democracy. Over the years, political and civil actors have taken centre stage in the media, calling for voter registration and voting. However, voter apathy has been rising in Cameroon since the 1997 presidential election. This study examines the relationship between bad news reports and voter apathy in Cameroon. Anchored on the Agenda Setting theory, 1285 respondents were surveyed in Buea, Bamenda, Bafoussam, Douala, Yaoundé, and Maroua. Findings reveal that most respondents are significantly interested in getting news updates about electoral activities in Cameroon. Respondents also attest that bad news reports overwhelmingly dominate the Cameroon media landscape (59.8%), predominantly focus on negative aspects of issues (56.2%), and reflect the overall state of Cameroon’s activities (48.5%). Results equally reveal a positive correlation (r= 0.2) between exposure to negative news and voter apathy. This positive correlation, though weak, shows that when bad news reports increase, voter apathy also increases. The weak correlation is due to the influence of other factors responsible for voter apathy, including broken or unfulfilled promises from politicians (78%), lack of trust in electoral institutions (70.6%), vote rigging (67.2%), feeling of detachment from Cameroon’s political systems (60.1%), limited political information or education (56.7%), complex voting procedure (53.3%), and the absence of strong opposition parties in the country. We recommend that electoral stakeholders and media practitioners intensify efforts to encourage and educate the public on the importance of voting to enhance voter turnout. Good news should also count (62.6% affirmed this) in media agenda, especially during elections
Voices on Twitter: Emotional and Thematic Responses to COVID-19 in Mainstream Media of China and the United States
International social media is often used to study global public opinion and has gradually become an important platform for global media to gain user attention and participation. The globalization of information dissemination has forced mainstream media in various countries to agenda setting and re-agenda setting on social media platforms again and again. This paper analyzes relevant media tweets about "China's COVID-19" on the X (Twitter) platform, focusing on understanding the attitudes and reactions of mainstream media in China and the United States to this global epidemic topic, and providing response strategies for the global information dissemination of Chinese media. Based on digital media analysis methods, thematic analysis and sentiment analysis of tweets from eight mainstream media in three years were conducted, and the content dissemination effects of the eight media were systematically evaluated. The results show that Chinese media reports emphasize the effectiveness of epidemic prevention and control, and the emotional distribution tends to be positive, while American media focus on social tensions and policy disputes and express more negative emotions. The results provide an analytical framework for understanding the information dissemination and discourse construction of Chinese and American media in the context of the global epidemic
China’s Official Values Propaganda in New Mainstream Films: A Systematic Literature Review and Theoretical Analysis
Chinese new mainstream films are responsible for propagating China’s official values to spectators. This study aimed to provide a critical and well-rounded understanding of the propagation of new mainstream films and the authorities’ values for the filmic, cultural, and other relevant academic communities. A systematic literature review was conducted according to the PRISMA statement. Studies were identified from two databases—Web of Science and Scopus—and integrated into a double-sided snowball sampling procedure as seeds to identify other relevant resources. Codes and themes were generated using ATLAS.ti for data extraction and synthesis. The narratives of certain new mainstream films contradicted China’s official political position and national interests. This study examined the narrative mechanism used to interpret this issue from a theoretical perspective and revealed three themes that were discussed in the context of China’s political discourse: patriotism, harmony, and prosperity. A filmic narrative mechanism model based on Gaudreault and Jost’s work (1999 [2004]) was refined. Moreover, the cognitive gap in and between the mega-narrator and supreme narrator resulted in expressions that were incompatible with China’s official position. This research contributes significantly to the study of Chinese new mainstream films
