Mental Health Issues Recovery Narratives in the Philippines: A Discourse Analysis
The discourse surrounding recovery narratives of Filipinos with lived experience of mental health challenges influences public understandings of mental health and individuals’ healing journeys. This study analyzed 30 recovery narratives from Philippine media outlets using Levinson’s (1983) entailment framework and Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) transitivity analysis. Key entailments identified include self-awareness, medical treatment, healthy and supportive environment, self-help strategies, optimism, faith, and a sense of belonging. Transitivity analysis reveals that recovery is constructed through material, mental, verbal, and relational processes, portraying it as a multifaceted journey characterized by intentional actions, reflective understanding, emotional expression, and social support. These findings suggest that mental health recovery is not only a clinical outcome but also a socially, emotionally, and culturally embedded process that requires personal agency and meaningful engagement. The study provides evidence-based insights to inform curriculum design and policy development, aiming to promote mental health awareness, empathy, resilience, and culturally relevant approaches that support well-being

This paper explores the use of film adaptation of Chinese mythological novels in intercultural communication, focusing especially on the fidelity of adaptation and image creation of cultural elements influence cultural knowledge and cultural appreciation. It also examines the mediating role of cultural interpretation of the audience and the moderating effect of access to language. A mixed-method design was employed, including a systematic survey of 321 overseas viewers alongside 12 semi-structured open-ended qualitative interviews. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used for testing the proposed relationships, both mediation and moderation effects in the quantitative stage. Qualitative step made thematic analysis to explore interpretations by the audience and provided extensive information with the perception of viewers on the topics of adaptation fidelity and cultural symbolism. Quantitative results prove that both adaptation fidelity and visual representation favorably enhance the culture understanding and enjoyment, cultural interpretation of the audience can be viewed as a key mediator. The available language also intensified the interpretation and cultural results association. The qualitative evidence indicated participants perceived symbolic authenticity and quality of translation to be crucial to how they perceive culture and explain the mechanism behind the statistical correlation. The integration of survey evidence and audience narratives pits this research of an adaption theory and intercultural communication hosting film adaptations as feedback cultural bridges influenced by fidelity and symbolism and the interpretation and accessibility. Practically, it emphasizes the value of culturally sensitive modes of adaptation, translation of high quality and audience participation of intercultural effects of mythological narratives in film
The Effectiveness of School Network in Promoting Pre-College Students’ English Language Performance
The government of Ethiopia has invested over 20 million dollars to improve the quality of education through digital technology. However, the effectiveness of such huge investment on education is overlooked. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of School Network (SN) in promoting students’ English Language performance. The researcher deployed a descriptive research design and a mixed research approach to collect data on the implementation processes and other contextual factors potentially influencing the process. The researcher also utilized UNESCO’s input, process, and output logic model to set standards of effectiveness. The research was conducted in the City Government Administration of Addis Ababa, specifically in four selected sub-cities, based on their achievement in SN implementation. The participants of the study included one English language expert, four school principals, 20 male and 10 female English Language teachers (a total of 30 teachers), six ICT/plasma technicians, and 160 pre-college students (80 males and 80 females). Five instruments were used to collect data from primary and secondary sources. Classroom observations were conducted to assess the delivery of School Network instruction in teaching English. Moreover, focus group discussions were held, and questionnaire was administered to examine the role of the School Network on students’ English language performance. Additionally, these instruments were used to identify challenges related to School Network usage in ELT. Furthermore, explorative interview was conducted and documents were analyzed to prove whether there was difference in effectiveness of the School Net instruction in teaching English language based on sex and stream(natural and social science students) or not. Besides, these instruments were utilized to identify challenges related to School Net usage in ELT. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were employed to analyze and interpret the data gathered through these tools. The findings of the study indicated that SN has the potential to be accessed through platforms like plasma, e-learning, and cloud computing, and it provides video on demand (VOD). This enabled interactive blended language learning (IBLL), mobile-assisted language learning (MALL), and computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and Technology Assisted Language Learning (TALL). However, factors such as minimal teacher’s involvement, low level of students’ participation, lack of support services and facilities, frequent network disconnections, electric power fluctuations causing damage and theft of accessories such as set-top boxes, adapters, batteries and remotes; and school rules restricting students from using electronic devices in school, hindered its effectiveness. Hence, concerned authorities should evaluate the program's effectiveness and address the identified problems to help students benefit from the potential of School Network platforms to learn the target language (English)
Insights from Learning Machine Operators on Integrating Peer Support and Technology to Minimize Language Barriers and Improve Self-Efficacy
Cost cutting measures have led to the elimination of apprenticeships and a focus on single language instruction, which has hindered migrant self-efficacy. A low-cost solution integrates peer support, Google Translate, and ChatGPT to support employee development. A four phased quasi-experimental approach examined 115 questionnaire responses from 28 non-native English speaking machine operators to determine how such an approach facilitates and constrains self-efficacy while exploring potential refinements for future innovation adoption. A thematic analysis uncovered ten major themes indicating that the approach facilitates self-efficacy by boosting problem-solving and providing rapid feedback while constraining self-efficacy via linguistic limitations. Refinements include only using ChatGPT while providing learners with extensive in-depth training to maximize its potential. Thus, the approach provides a relative advantage over alternatives because it is affordable, simple, sustainable, and effective while supporting inclusive training for a growing portion of the population. Shortcomings include the small sample, lack of extensive linguistic representation, and the novelty effect

Dynamics of Foreign Trade in Brazilian States
This study analyzes the impact of real exchange rate devaluations on the trade balance of Brazilian states by major economic categories (capital goods, intermediate goods, consumer goods, and fuels and lubricants), testing the J-Curve hypothesis and the Marshall-Lerner Condition. A panel autoregressive distributed lag (PARDL) model was applied to annual data from 26 Brazilian states (2000–2020), using Driscoll and Kraay's (1998) robust covariance correction to address cross-sectional and temporal dependence. This correction is robust to general forms of cross-sectional (spatial) or temporal dependence, typically present in data of this nature. The results suggest that real exchange rate devaluations have negative impacts on the trade balance across all sectors analyzed in the short term, followed by a positive and elastic long-term impact in most categories - except for fuels and lubricants, where there is evidence only of the initial phase of the J-curve phenomenon
