Language as a Communication Tool for Maximum Participation in Municipalities: Lessons from Moqhaka Local Municipality, South Africa
Get PDFThis study attempts to accent the momentousness of public participation as an essential element of successful good local governance in the Republic of South Africa. Public participation is a fundamental dimension of democracy and an important factor in the deepening of democratic process. In this study, a total of 283 literate and semi-literate residents from the Moqhaka Local Municipality (comprising Kroonstad, Viljoenskroon and Steynsrus) participated in a purposive non-probability sampling exercise. Questionnaires were given to respondents following the population sizes, where Kroonstad (150 respondents) being the largest, followed by Viljoenskroon (80 respondents), and lastly, Steynsrus (53 respondents). The results showed overwhelmingly that both literate and semi-literate members of the Municipality strongly suggest that the use of African languages, in this case Sesotho is crucial for democracy to thrive. This paper intended to revitalise and encourage public participation at South African local municipalities, and to help minimise protest actions where residents constantly demand better service delivery. This has been true with the low voter turnout rate during the November 2021 local government elections. Local municipalities in South Africa are facing a huge task of advocating the involvement of communities and community organisations in local government. Language of communication is thus important in achieving this

The success of organizational change processes is largely contingent on the willingness of those involved. This article investigates the factors influencing teachers' readiness to digitize their daily work routines, particularly in terms of teaching and learning processes. A total of 72 teachers from vocational schools in Germany participated via the SmartSurvey App during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The quantitative analysis is structured across three levels: firstly, assessing how teachers adapted to the new reality of remote work; secondly, analyzing their readiness to navigate the new instructional landscape characterized by remote teaching and learning processes; and thirdly, exploring teachers' overall attitudes towards digital media and their competency in media-didactics, drawing connections to the remote utilization of digital tools
Maximizing the Benefits of ChatGPT with FIRST-ADLX Framework: Promoting Responsible, Ethical, and Impactful AI Integration in Education
Get PDFIn the era of fast technological advancements and the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, it is more important than ever for educators to have a pedagogy that embeds this technology. A humanistic approach to education is demanded. The focus on the individual student and their emotional and spiritual needs is essential if an active deep learner experience is to be created.This paper aims to explore the integration of Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) within Focusing, Interacting, Reviewing, Sequencing, Transforming-Active Deep Learner eXperience Framework (FIRST-ADLX Framework) and investigate the framework’s capacity to effectively incorporate the latest technology while prioritizing the learners’ needs and promoting responsible and ethical use of AI in education. By embedding ChatGPT within a comprehensive, holistic, and humanized Framework that prioritizes pedagogy over technology and focuses on the learner rather than on the digital tool, it becomes possible to create an immersive and impactful ADLX. This ensures that the technology used enhances the learner’s experience and does not overshadow it. Furthermore, the study shows how the implementation of the domains and principles of FIRST-ADLX Framework can maximize the benefits of ChatGPT in particular, encourages facilitators and learners to embrace AI technologies as valuable tools and resources, and supports both in utilizing AI ethically, responsibly, and appropriately.The study adopts a qualitative auto-ethnographic approach where data is collected from the facilitator’s personal diary, observations, participants’ comments, and assessments furthermore, this study offers a more objective perspective and embraces descriptive quantitative methods to analyze the results of formative quizzes and the final summative assessment. This approach aims to emphasize the importance of integrating AI within a comprehensive and humanistic framework, avoiding its random use and ensuring alignment with student-centered principles
WARBA Dance Steps of Ganzourgou: Conflict Prevention and Resolution in Burkina Faso
Get PDFIn the Ganzourgou province, an ancestral ludomotor activity is practiced: the warba, a traditional dance on which the Moaga society has engraved its mechanisms of prevention and resolution of conflicts that often oppose its members. It is a dance that conveys through body gestures, deep messages whose objectives are, among others, the quest for social cohesion. To grasp the different articulations of this traditional dance of prevention and conflict regulation, a stay was made in Ganzourgou where a participatory observation was carried out on the intangible cultural heritage of this people. From the analysis of the results, it appears that the warba dance steps such as the Laadem-lacre or the Kar-valga implemented under the instrumental air during sacred or profane dance ceremonies, convey messages that consolidate social relations. However, the results also show that this reference social practice is under the influence of modern and African-inspired dances, thus leading to its gradual disappearance. To face this influence, research suggests the revitalization of this local knowledge of the Moose people of Ganzourgou, bearer of endogenous values of conflict regulation, and its inclusion in school curricula and in the practice of maintenance sport
The Impact of Online Negative Hotel Reviews and Merchant Response Strategies on Potential Consumers’ Purchase Intentions: A Perceived Trust Perspective
Get PDFBased on online negative reviews, the paper explores the influence mechanism of emotional and attributive reviews on potential customers’ purchase intentions. Against the background of online hotel booking, using ability, benevolence, and integrity in perceived trust as intermediary variables, we constructed a two-factor group experiment with 2 (types of online negative reviews) × 5 (merchant response strategies). This study was conducted by randomly recruiting participants from a university, utilizing a questionnaire-based experimental approach. Two hundred fifty valid questionnaires were collected for statistical analysis, including t-test, analysis of variance, and structural equation model. This paper reveals the influence of online negative reviews and merchant response strategies on ability, integrity, and benevolence. It verifies the mechanism of three factors and potential customers’ purchase intention. Concurrently, this study provides crucial inspiration for hotel managers to focus on addressing the service quality issues in the reviews and develop tailored response strategies to enhance customers’ perception and trust
Educational Innovations in Undergraduate Health Care: A Scope Review
Get PDFHigher education has undergone a series of significant transformations in recent decades, driven by advances in technology and the demands of a constantly evolving world. This scoping review investigated educational innovations in health education, guided by the transformations resulting from technological advances and the dynamic demands of contemporary society. The study was carried out based on the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) protocol and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. The search engines used were PubMed Central, Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Embase, through the Portal de Periódicos da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) with Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). After reading and analyzing the 17 articles selected, three categories emerged: "Active study methodologies"; "Learning technologies"; and "Integration between active methodologies and technologies as a teaching strategy". Active study methodologies, such as problem-based and team-based learning and the use of real clinical scenarios, have been shown to be effective in promoting student involvement in the learning process. The use of learning technologies, such as virtual reality, online simulations and mobile health applications, complements and enriches health teaching. The integration of active methodologies and digital technologies is emerging as an essential strategy for health teaching in the contemporary era
Self-Presentation of Elderly Internet Celebrity on Douyin in China

Douyin, owned by ByteDance, is one of the fastest growing apps in China. Many elderly users use this app for entertainment and information sharing. Currently, there is an emergency of several elderly internet celebrities.The study investigated how elderly internet celebrities in China used short videos to present themselves and shape their image on Douyin. The study employs literature analysis and content analysis to analyzes the content of short videos of 10 elderly internet celebrities on Douyin. The study summarized the self-presentation characteristics of elderly internet celebrities,dismissed stereotypes regarding elderly people and recommended new ideas and paths for the governance of China's aging society
Motivations of Media Students to Adopt AI in Practical Courses
Get PDFThe article aimed to reveal the motivations of media students to adopt artificial intelligence applications in practical courses, and a case study was conducted by students in the College of Media at Middle East University in Jordan. This study belongs to the descriptive, interpretive studies using the survey method. The results showed that most artificial intelligence applications that media students depend on the applications that are used in video production and image and sound montage operations and that the general arithmetic mean for the reasons for the reliance of media students on artificial intelligence applications in their practical courses was high (3.67), and that there are statistically significant differences due to specialization, and the journalism and media specialization was the highest among the rest of the specializations. There are statistically significant differences due to students with excellent averages in behavioral and cognitive motivations. The study recommends starting to introduce artificial intelligence applications into scientific courses in media colleges so that they can be used to highlight the thinking and creativity skills of students in producing media content and put forth ethical rules that govern dealing with artificial intelligence applications as a course of study that students deal with within the rules. Moreover, laws keep them away from ethical transgressions, whether producing film content or writing and editing texts
Construction of Fear: A Shared Experience of Indonesian Independent Horror Moviemakers
Get PDFThis study explores the creative process of Indonesian independent horror moviemakers, explicitly analyzing how they generate elements of fear in their short movies. Using a phenomenological method, the authors conducted in-depth interviews with five emerging Indonesian independent moviemakers whose short movies had received acclaim for excellence or achieved exceptionally high levels of audience engagement. The data analysis identified nine significant themes related to the moviemakers' motivation and creative process. These themes provide insights into the delicate balance between the aesthetics of mise-en-scene (cinematic components) and cultural influences that contribute to the construction of fear in their movies. The findings highlight the significance of understanding the subtleties of the short movie format and the socio-cultural factors involved in horror production. The discovered themes demonstrate a collective experience among the moviemakers, emphasizing typical approaches and difficulties in producing captivating and fear-provoking horror short movies
