Ngalaksa Traditional Ceremony as a Local Wisdom to Maintain Community Social Interaction
Get PDFThe Ngalaksa traditional ceremony is a legacy of the Rancakalong people's ancestors through their traditional arts. It is carried out as a form of gratitude for the harvest. This cultural activity can positively impact the community and the local government. It can be an event that can foster noble values in society, such as strengthening family relationships between communities. However, the potential of Ngalaksa traditional ceremony has not been exploited optimally. If managed wellit can become a cultural tourist attraction with the concept of cultural advancement. This research aims to reveal the values of local wisdom in the community through the traditional Ngalaksa ceremony. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a case study, this research was conducted in Nagarawangi Village, Rancakalong District, Sumedang Regency. The data were collected using in-depth interviews and observations to explain the research object factually. In addition, literature studies, document searches and field notes were also carried out. The data were validated using triangulation techniques. This research reveals the values of the Ngalaksa tradition, which presents the concept of interaction between humans, nature, and God, wrapped in a traditional ceremony. Hopefully, this research will be a conservation effort through community cultural customs activities to become a tourism potential and improve community welfare
Enhancing the Needs of Counselor's Communication Competencies in Assisting Child Victims of Sexual Violence
Get PDFChildren who are at risk of sexual assault often have limited knowledge and experience, which makes it challenging for them to understand the violence they have endured and how to react to it. This significantly hinders their ability to open up and talk about the traumatic experience. Such situations will make difficult the trauma-healing efforts carried out by counselors. The study aims to identify the competencies counselors must acquire for the counseling process to function smoothly and successfully. Data were collected through detailed interviews and observations involving 14 informants. Researchers also conducted literature reviews and administrative tasks to support their findings. Case studies were conducted to explore the role and significance of communication skills for counselors in the trauma recovery process for child victims of sexual assault. The findings revealed that counselors must not only have psychological knowledge or counseling competencies but also possess a variety of characteristics such as personality competence, professional competence, social competence, and, most importantly, communication competence
Memes and Constructions of TikTok Culture in #DontPlayPlayBosku
Get PDFMemes have become a medium to convey messages on TikTok. However, memes are often underestimated. The researcher has noticed that TikTok is not merely a platform as it is also a memetic, complex text. As a platform, TikTok not only mediates and facilitates the production of short videos but also becomes a culture. Through the Don't Play Play Bosku audio meme phenomenon, this study aims to provide a perspective on how meme themes are conveyed to the public to create a high engagement space and what sorts of ideology are offered by creators in the TikTok culture space. The researcher conducted digital ethnographic observations, qualitative content analysis, and used the Shifman’s three-dimension approach to analyze 10 video samples qualitatively. This study found three meme themes, including inadequacy, metaphor and a practice of playfulness, and mental satire. At the content level, memes are not only an expression of videos but also an audio control to negotiate. At the form level, memes are delivered with word twists, reactions, and effects frequently repeated. The practice of memes at the stance level indicates that the ideological position of creators in bringing up memes is an elaboration of videos and audio that give birth to these three themes in the mechanism of TikTok culture. Fiscal Policy and Economic Growth a Cointegration Approach Based on Structural Breaks: Evidence from Algeria
Get PDFIn this paper, we studied the impact of fiscal policy tools on economic growth in Algeria for the period from 1970 to 2022, and after testing this impact, we took that oil taxes and non-oil taxes represent two independent variables of economic growth. This study shows that there is a long-term relationship between the two variables. The study also found that the cointegration test of Gregory Hansen and Hatami -J applies under regime change. The results of the study showed that there is a cointegration relationship between the variables in the case of the presence of one constructive interval. As for the two structural breaks, our paper confirmed the presence of a cointegration The relationship between these variables. We find the long-run coefficients for. The cointegration test has showed that there is an absence of a cointegration relationship, This method supported the hypothesis of the absence in a cointegration relationship in the case of the absence of structural breaks, while when we used the cointegration approach based on breaks, we confiremed clear evidence of this, in the case of more than three strictual breaks in the long-run relationship between variables.The results of this study were confirmed by the Maki test, for example it appears first that fiscal policy exerts a weak positive impact on economic growth, after 2015, while regular taxes are only affected in the long run according to New Keynesian expectations, and it is natural that taxes exert the opposite effect. We concluded that this is due to the decline in the price of oil and the impact on its revenues for approximately 5 year
The Impact of Instagram on Turkish University Students’ Attitudes toward Political Parties
Get PDFThis study sought to find out the nature of the effects of the Instagram platform in forming the attitudes of Turkish university students towards political parties in Turkey. In addition, the study aimed to find out the motives and reasons for students' follow-up to the Instagram platform. To achieve the goal of the study, the researcher relied on descriptive studies, and within their framework, he used the survey method, through the application of the method of surveying the public with the sample. He distributed the electronic questionnaire to the study sample, which numbered (408) Turkish university students according to the appropriate sample method. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which were the following: Most Turkish students use Instagram for more than three hours a day and the main reason for following Instagram is that it is first: "easy to use" and then "characterized by multimedia (photos, videos and audio). The study also found that the most digital technology that contributed to the formation of Turkish university students' attitudes towards political parties was (Stories) technology followed by Live Video technology. As for the effects of the Instagram knowledge platform, it was an answer that contributed to my knowledge of the role played by political parties. "It is the highest and the emotional effects were an answer that increased my conviction of the importance and role of political parties." As for the behavioral effects, "supporting some parties and standing by them and supporting them" was the highest among the answers. The study also found a low-level positive relationship (r=.206**) between the attitudes of Turkish university students towards political parties and the effects of the Instagram platform in general, where (P<0.05), in addition to a low-level positive relationship (r=.144**) between the attitudes of Turkish university students towards political parties and the digital technologies of the Instagram platform, where (P<0.05)
Digital Political Communication in Emerging Democracy: A Comparative Study of Indonesia, India, and Brazil
Get PDFThe victory of right-wing political parties in democratic countries worldwide has garnered significant attention and presented unique challenges. The structured and widespread use of social media platforms is alleged to play a crucial role, enabling these parties to actively shape influence, attract voter sympathy, and mobilize support on a broad scale. Using the evidence from the presidential and parliamentary elections in Indonesia, India, and Brazil, this research examines how the populist candidates in these major democracies effectively utilized appealing patterns and styles of political communication on the social media. Through a comparative analysis of the 33 articles published in the International journals between 2019 and 2023, the findings have revealed some similarities in the digital political communication patterns and styles among the victorious populist figures. This study specifically highlights the facts that these figures employ digital communication strategies centered on two key aspects, namely: (1) promoting populist narratives through the social media and (2) crafting personalized self-images. These strategies are shown to be instrumental in securing election wins for the populist leaders concerned
Polite Disagreement: How Sellers Manage Conflict in Social Media Sales
Get PDFThis study explores how sellers manage polite disagreement in online sales transactions on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The research aims to examine the use of politeness strategies in online text-based communication, particularly in expressing disagreement. A case study approach was employed, with data collected from sellers through questionnaires and screenshots of their transaction interactions. Content analysis was used to categorize disagreement speech acts and politeness strategies based on Searle’s speech act theory, Chen’s disagreement theory, and Brown & Levinson’s politeness theory. The findings revealed that sellers primarily employ negative politeness strategies, particularly in situations involving direct disagreement, to soften the face-threatening nature of disagreement. The use of negative politeness allows sellers to maintain relationships with buyers while conveying disagreement in a non-confrontational manner. This research underscores the importance of understanding the context in more detail, especially in studying speech in online buying and selling. The separation between situational context and cultural context as offered in this research is an alternative way to study polite disagreement in online discourse
The Role of Social Media in Promoting Inclusive Communication between the Non-Disabled and People with Disabilities through Accessibility Features
Get PDFThe study sought to establish whether social media can promote inclusive communication between people with disabilities and those without through accessible features in Saudi Arabia. Two areas of interest in the study were inclusivity and accessibility of social media features. People with disabilities must be included in the online space and have access to features that enable them to communicate easily. Social media communication can be sending a friend request, chatting, or responding to people's posts. The study engaged a self-report of 154 participants of varied levels of education and age groups, including gender, different provinces around the country, and the social media platforms they preferred. The descriptive and inferential analyses show that social media platforms can promote inclusive communication if accessible features are available. Accessible features include alt text, a simple user interface, hashtags, emoticons, and captions.
The Role of Social Media in Spreading the Culture of Volunteer Work Among University Students
Get PDFThis study explores the role of social media - especially social networking sites - Facebook, in spreading the culture of volunteer work among young people, especially university youth in Saudi Arabia. The study used the descriptive method and developed a questionnaire to collect data from 414 students from different universities in Saudi Arabia, who were chosen by the random sampling method. The results indicated that Facebook effectively promotes volunteer work campaigns and contributes effectively to introducing students to more aspects of volunteer work. The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the responses of the respondents about the role of Facebook in promoting the culture of volunteer work due to gender. The findings also revealed that the statistical differences between the responses of the participants were not statistically significant because of the difference in the student's faculty
Media Narratives on China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Nepal: Impact on Nepal-China Relations

With Nepal currently involved in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects, China's BRI has provided a foundation for future economic collaboration in the region. This paper utilizes framing theory and qualitative content analysis to explore the media narratives on China's BRI projects in Nepal by three prominent Nepalese newspapers: My Republica, The Himalayan Times, and The Kathmandu Post. Analyzing news articles, the study examines how these newspapers frame BRI projects in Nepal across economic, geopolitical, and sociocultural dimensions. The analysis contributes to a comprehensive understanding of Nepal's participation in the BRI framework by highlighting the complexities and considerations across economic, geopolitical, and sociocultural domains using framing theory and qualitative content analysis methodology.
