    Get PDF
In the Information Era, audience participation has gradually become an important activity in the media field, including reality television. Under the present convergence of media and culture, it is also valuable to review the audiences themselves and their participation in regional contexts. This study adopts case study method using online observation of audiences in two Chinese social media platforms (Sina Weibo and Baidu Tieba), exploring the online audiences’ participation in ‘Sing! China’ and the participatory culture they formed during this process. Through this analysis, participation can be regarded as a sort of pleasure for online audiences, where the meanings of television programs can be creatively processed and utilized for daily entertainment or communication. To some extent, audiences’ interpretations of media texts are complicated, rather than being limited to mere acceptance or outright rejection as suggested by traditional models. Sometimes, audiences know the existence of authenticity issues in reality television (including performing authenticity of tutors) and some allow its coexistence within reality shows. In terms of authenticity issues on reality television, there are some audiences that create new cultural products based on their own watching experience and understanding that belongs to a part of popular culture, which is beyond the media content itself or may be different from what the media producers want to convey. Such audiences can also be viewed as media producers or free laborers of media not merely media consumers. All these individuals constitute a sort of participatory culture that circulates in society or exists in mass discourse. Through this study, the researcher attempts to provide a reference from the perspective of the audiences for the field of both academia and the media industry

Artificial Intelligence, Social Media and Information Disorder in China’s Information Ecosystem

    Get PDF
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have played a significant role in the production and spread of information. AI technologies along with social media brought the public huge amount of information, which greatly improves the efficiency of information acquisition among societies. However, as AI technologies continue to advance, new forms of misinformation and disinformation emerge and disrupt the information ecosystem, resulting in the rise of various forms of fake news and information disorder. This poses serious threat to the authenticity and credibility of information and undermines healthy development of journalism in light of changing technologies. Given the limitations of the conceptual definition of ‘fake news’, this study is guided by Claire Wardle’s broader and deeper framework of ‘information disorder’ and the Gatekeeper Theory. It adopts the qualitative method of in-depth interviews for data collection and utilizes thematic analyses to interpret its findings. The findings from this study expand ongoing literature on information disorder particularly within the fields of AI, social media and within the regional context of China

The Alliance of Classical and Quantum Computing

The author posits that the eight billion humans on Earth cause global warming. We have halved most nonhuman species, woods, and aquifers. Unless we re-educate our young, we will destroy the permafrost, our world, and all life. Re-education in the family will allow us to value God’s three gifts: (1) memory (autism, classical physics, finiteness, or the first attention lodged in our cerebral cortex), (2) our freedom to lie (quantum physics, infinity, Tree-of-Knowledge, or the second attention bust in autism and lodged in our cerebellum), and (3) the alliance of memory and freedom into a third attention, or the Tree-of-Life. In any dolmen of Stonehenge (Wiltshire, England), the two vertical stones (classical computing, finiteness, or the universe and anti-universe) ally with the horizontal stone (quantum computing, infinity, or simultaneity), as rigidity (e.g., bread) allies with flexibility (e.g., water or wine). Rigidity allies with flexibility in a Virgin Mary that courageously opposes malignity in returning to a newer light. Mary returns with the grace, hope, blessing, pain, humility, love, and kindness of any person interested in the welfare of others, mostly those that badly need help to live
