Comparing the Association Between Teacher Collaboration and Mathematics Achievement Across Contexts: Evidence from Shanghai and England

Teacher collaboration is increasingly recognized as a key component of effective instruction and student learning. However, limited research has explored how this collaboration indirectly shapes student outcomes through its influence on teaching practices—especially within mathematics education and across different national contexts. This study addresses this gap by examining the mediating role of teaching practices in the relationship between teacher collaboration and student mathematics achievement, using data from the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) Global Teaching Insights (GTI) study. A structural equation modeling approach was employed to compare these relationships in Shanghai and England. The results indicate that teacher collaboration is positively associated with student achievement in mathematics, primarily through its indirect influence on teaching practices. Notably, the strength of this mediated relationship was greater in the England sample. These findings highlight the importance of fostering collaborative professional environments and offer cross-national insights into how collaborative practices can support student learning through enhanced instruction

Students’ Rights and School Resource Officers: How School Teams Can Protect Students

As more schools integrate heightened security measures and staff, including SRO’s, into secondary schools, issues arise relating to violations of students’ rights as well as criminalization of students. This paper provides a critical lens to infringement on student rights as well as suggestions for school-based teams (including administrators and SROs) designed to transition safety training away from punitive criminalization of students (perpetuating the school to prison pipeline) and instead focus on proactive relationship building and understanding of students’ rights and needs

Newspaper Industry in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis and the Digital Era: Exploring Their Coexistence

Digital technology in the 21st century has significantly impacted almost every aspect of commerce, education, health, economy, tourism, aviation, etc. The newspaper industry in Ghana has also had its fair share of digital evolution in terms of readership and sales from the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis. A cursory survey revealed that the selected newspapers (Ghanaian Chronicles, Ghanaian Times, New Crusading Guide, The Finder) experienced low sales and readership among clients in the twin city for several years. The study's main aim was to assess the impact of public sales and readership on the selected newspapers in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis and the digital era. A qualitative approach was adopted to gain a fuller understanding of how print and digital media coexist in the metropolis. In terms of the research techniques, the interview and questionnaire were used to acquire the essential data for the study. A total of 56 respondents participated in the questionnaire, while 5 main industry stakeholders participated in the interview session. The results emerged with a significant shift towards digital media consumption by participants. Among others, some recommendations have been made to industry players to stay in business

What Makes Chinese Animation, Comic, Game, and Novel Subculture Users Willing to Engage in Community Activities on Video Websites? An Empirical Study of Motivation, Engagement Intention, and Media Satisfaction

The influence of the ACGN (animation, comic, game, novel) subculture has become popular worldwide, with video websites serving as primary cultural exchange platforms. These users bring high economic and cultural benefits to online communities, which can stem new cultural crazes. This research focuses on the relationship among different motivations, media satisfaction, community participation, and content contribution of ACGN users. Using a quantitative research method, data on this core group was collected using a questionnaire and analysed by SmartPLS. Results of this study demonstrated that entertainment, information, social interaction, self-expression, and reputation positively correlated with community participation and content contribution. Expected reciprocal benefit was positively correlated with content contribution, while deep ACGN research was correlated solely with community participation. Altruism was not significantly correlated with either construct. Media satisfaction partially mediated the relationships between entertainment, information, social-interaction, self-expression, community participation, and content contribution. This research discovered the motivations and behavioral intentions of this subculture with its large base and affirmed their contribution. Finally, based on the results, suggestions are given for the construction of online communities on video websites that attract ACGN groups

Mediating Role of Personality Traits and Moderating Influence of Gender in the Relationship between Social Media and Life Quality

The prevalence of social media within contemporary media landscapes requires an enhanced comprehension of the potential impact of social media exposure and engagement on an individual’s overall life quality. The current study aims to investigate the impact of social media consumption on young individuals’ personalities and life quality. A total sample of 287 individuals aged between 13 and 32 years and enrolled in higher educational institutions were recruited. Moreover, the frequency of social media exposure was assessed through participants’ self-reported estimations. The study results demonstrated a positive correlation between social media consumption, extraversion, and life quality. Contrarily, an insignificant positive relationship existed between social media consumption and other dimensions of the Big Five personality traits. A notable gender disparity was also observed in the correlation between social media usage and overall life quality. Nevertheless, outcome generalisation should be conducted with discretion following the variations in personality and social media usage across different cultures and time zones

Digital Learning Tools in the Development of Foreign Language Skills among Students in Higher Education

In the context of the digital transformation of education, interactive foreign language teaching is particularly relevant, as it can ensure high student motivation, development of professional communicative competence, and adaptation to the changing educational environment. The growing need for specialists able to communicate effectively in a foreign language in the context of intercultural interaction actualizes the search for innovative methods of foreign language training.  The study aimed to investigate the impact of interactive digital technologies on the formation of foreign language communicative competence of higher education students; the object was the process of professionally oriented foreign language teaching in higher education. The methodology of the study included pedagogical observation, analysis of educational practices, comprehensive assessment of the level of competence formation according to four criteria, and testing of the author's interactive learning program. The experiment was conducted at the Academy of Labor, Social Relations, and Tourism and Cherkasy State Business College with the participation of students majoring in Vocational Education. Digital Technologies" and “Vocational Education. Economics”. The results showed a significant increase in the proportion of students with high (from 11.9% to 35.7%) and sufficient (from 14.3% to 23.8%) levels of foreign language communicative competence, as well as a decrease in the proportion of participants with low levels (from 35.7% to 9.5%). The most effective were educational chatbots, VR scenarios, and simulation and role-playing games, which provided language autonomy, flexibility of communication, and immersion in a professional context. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of scaling the interactive model to different educational programs, developing typical scenarios of digital interaction, and improving the methodological training of teachers to work in a mixed environment. The results obtained confirm the feasibility of integrating digital tools into the system of foreign language education to form flexible, professionally competent specialists

Whose Standards? Examining Power, Fairness, and Voice in Pre-Service Teachers’ Conceptions of Assessment

This study examined how pre-service teachers in a CHED-aligned Philippine teacher education program understand fairness, power, and voice in assessment, and how these conceptions evolve through critical pedagogy-informed interventions. Anchored in Critical Action Research and guided by Freirean and Critical Assessment Literacy (CAL) framework, the study engaged 50 participants in the foundational course Assessment of Learning 1, integrating co-rubric design, peer feedback, and dialogic reflections alongside technical assessment tasks. Data were collected through semi-structured journal entries, focus group dialogues, praxis portfolios, and researcher reflections, and analyzed using Critical Thematic Analysis. Findings revealed that initial conceptions of fairness were largely procedural, power was unexamined, and student voice was peripheral. Through iterative interventions, participants reconceptualized fairness as equity, reframed power as reflective stewardship, and embraced student voice as essential to ethical assessment. These shifts, evident in 55–65% of post-course codes, demonstrated that technical competence alone is insufficient for transformative Teacher Assessment Literacy; ethical reflection and dialogic engagement are critical for developing Critical Assessment Literacy (CAL). The study offers a contextually grounded model for integrating technical, ethical, dialogic, and transformative literacies, highlighting the potential for pre-service programs to foster equity-centered, culturally responsive assessment practices in postcolonial Philippine classrooms

Blended Learning in Higher Education: Defining and Classifying Key Aspects

In modern scientific space, there are various approaches to the interpretation of blended learning (BL); however, there is a lack of a single unification of them and a definition of the main components of this form. The goal was to conduct a systematic and bibliometric analysis of scientific publications, identify and classify key aspects of BL implementation, and develop a generalized model with recommendations on the prospects for integration in higher education. A systematic literature review was conducted according to the PRISMA protocol. Data sources included Scopus, Web of Science, Open Alex, etc. VOSviewer was used for bibliometric analysis and visualization. In total, 51 articles were selected for processing and analysis. The analysis demonstrated a steady increase in the number of publications since the early 2000s, with a sharp peak in 2020–2022, which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. Bibliometric analysis revealed 11 clusters reflecting the multidimensionality of the discourse: pedagogical strategies and self-regulation, organizational policies, and digital analytics. BL in higher education is an integrated educational model that combines traditional classroom forms with digital online tools, aimed at increasing the flexibility, personalization, and efficiency of the educational process. The developed generalized POСM-BL model combined structural dimensions, support mechanisms, and promising directions (AI, resilience, inclusivity). The study confirmed the multidimensionality of BL, as well as its transformation from a “teaching format” into a strategic paradigm for the development of higher education. The study closed the gaps in the classification of BL aspects

Pricing and Market Characteristics: A Case Study of Airlines on the Denver – Los Angeles Route

This study examines the factors that determine airfare pricing on the route from Denver (DEN) to Los Angeles (LAX), including the return trip. This is a pair of cities with distinct economic backgrounds. We analyze a dynamic panel dataset spanning 22 years from 2002 to 2023 to examine how various firm-level, industry-level, and macroeconomic indicators affect airfare. The country's major carriers, Delta Airlines and Southwest Airlines, employ a unique pricing strategy that enhances fare competitiveness on this route, as evidenced by the influence of HHI (i.e., Herfindahl-Hirschman Index). Although this market is an oligopoly and conventional wisdom suggests that higher concentration would lead to higher prices, we observe this effect only partially. We also observe evidence of unique characteristics of airlines
