Faculty of Education: 20th Anniversary; 1991-2011
Get PDFIn 1991 the then Brisbane College of
Advanced Education and the Queensland
University of Technology (QUT) merged
to create the Faculty of Education.
20 years later the QUT Faculty of
Education is one of the largest faculties
of education in the country with
approximately 5000 students and almost
200 full-time staff.
We are one of Australia's largest providers of undergraduate
and postgraduate education for teachers and we are recognised
as one of the top three Australian Faculties of Education in
research. Our staff are high-calibre researchers who receive
substantial competitive research grants and undertake a wide
range of collaborative and contract research.
Our expertise is recognised internationally as well. Faculty
staff work in the enhancement of teaching and research right
across the world - with European Union funded programs, in
Malaysia, China, Bangladesh and Samoa, to name just a few.
The Faculty's expansion in both research and teaching and
learning is continuing. In addition to our strong campus-based
programs, we have externally recognised examples of innovative
partnerships demonstrating exciting models of teacher education.
These include the Teacher Education Done Differently
program at Caboolture; the QUTeach@Redcliffe program;
the Exceptional Teachers for Disadvantaged Schools program;
and commencing in semester 2, a Teacher Education Centre of
Excellence in partnership with the Kelvin Grove State College.
Our course program will expand from semester 1 in 2012 by
offering students the opportunity to study in early childhood at
Caboolture campus for the first time. These students will join the
already highly successful primary program students at this campus.
This flyer highlights some of the major milestones of our
20 year journey. Throughout the last 20 years, our staff and
students have achieved outstanding results and contributed to
the growth of our Faculty. The Faculty will continue to build
on our strengths and deliver innovative and dynamic programs
for our future teachers and researchers.
