Endslate 2021 QUT Film, Screen & Animation Students
From the 2021 program:
Raw talent, durability, adaptability, steadfast, ground-breaking, family. These are all
words that came to mind when tasked to write this foreword. The creative industries are
undergoing one of the largest transitions in recent memory, in the face of which the 2021
Film, Screen, and New Media cohort has shown nothing but sheer professionalism and
dignity.
As adventurers exploring the depths of Australian society through the medium of
documentary, from mapping the human experience through narrative, to showcasing
the work of other brilliant minds in trailer and music videos; we’ve done it all. Over 40
successful outcomes have come out of this year’s SCP, an unprecedented achievement.
However, it is not through the material achievement that this cohort has shone, but
through the people that we have become. We are much more than a cohort. We are
a family. In times of need, we have banded together. In our creativity we have been
groundbreaking. In the face of adversity, we have been fearless. It is without a doubt that
the people within these pages are not only some of the most brilliant minds moving into
the film world, but also among the best people to do so. It has been an honour to work
with you all, just don’t forget to mention us when you win your Oscars.
And above all, remember that life is fragile, but you don’t have to live it that way.

Documentaries:The first semester of 2021 saw the film students following the
stories and experiences of various members of the community
in a non-fictional approach. Throughout the semester we not
only advanced our skills but told the stories of local, national, and
international subjects.
"A taste of Poland"; "Brotherboy"; "Bustard Head"; "Dearly Departed"; "Fitting the brief"; "Meeting Pauline"; "Tourneys and Trebuchets"; "4 Walls"
Narratives: In semester two of 2021, the film students took on narrative short
films. Each project has been in development for over a year. From
pitching, writing scripts, filming, and spending weeks in the editing
labs, we have been through it all and are very proud to present our
work to family and friends alike.
"Death upon a Silver Scream"; "Gods & Co; Lost Signal"; "Prima"; "The Moon Comes Out"; "True N.O.R.T.H".
Animations: The amination students have been working hard this entire year
to present the following projects. From concept art, to modelling,
to rendering, the past nine months have kept advancing both
the students’ personal and industry skills. The following projects
are a display of pure dedication to their craft and love for visual
storytelling.
"CRUNKO"; "Drop in the night"; "Moonboy"; "Nobody's Home

QUT Research Graduates Yearbook, 2021
HDR research activity remains at the heart of QUT’s real world research ambitions and our HDR cohort is one of the key the engine rooms of our innovation pipeline. In 2021, our HDR cohort showed great resilence in a world that continues to be challenged by a pandemic, complex international relations and an increasingly fractured world. Our HDR students find answers to questions that touch the very fundamentals of the human existence.and its embedding into our societies, explore ways towards innovative health solutions, understand the complexities of nature from the very small to planetary and extra-terrestrial dimensions on a fundamental level and engineer the innovations that support a sustainable environment.
QUT will continue to place great importance on the HDR journey including both the research and career development components. Our graduates continue to take up leadership position ranging from industry to government agencies to academia in Australia and abroad, enabling positive change. We are continuously striving to enhance our HDR experience and research leaders across our schools, centers, faculties and divisions continue to work in partnership with our HDR cohort to maximize their impact.
The year ahead will continue to challenge us as a society and a global community on several fronts, thus resilience building remains a key learning outcome for our HDR students, enabling them to thrive in pushing the boundaries of knowledge forward.
I hope you enjoy the read.
