Get PDFThis article explores how the internal migration creates new regional links. The analyses is grounded in the case study about the migrations that took place since the 1990s between the Istmo veracruzano and the north border of Mexico in one hand, and the Istmo veracruzano through the fields of intensive agriculture of Sinaloa in other hand. This study shows that migration of nahuas and popolucas workers from Sierra de Santa Marta allows that regions before unconnected are now plenty and unequal articulated.El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las nuevas articulaciones regionales que se crean a través de las migraciones internas. Para ello, se toma como estudio de caso las migraciones que desde mediados de la década de 1990 se realizan desde el Istmo veracruzano hacia la frontera norte de México y los campos de agricultura intensiva de Sinaloa. Se muestra que, a través de la migración laboral de trabajadores nahuas y popolucas de la Sierra de Santa Marta, regiones antes inconexas se articulan actualmente de manera desigual

Get PDFThis article analyzes the relationship between the National Indigenist Institute (INI) and the Tseltals of the municipality of Oxchuc, Chiapas, in the context of the Mexican state’s attempts to integrate indigenous peoples into the nation. The study of reports from the INI and of the correspondence between both groups gives a different perspective, more open and nuanced, on a project that often has been criticized. Even though the principal objective of the Oxchuqueros of developing the regional economy was not a success, there emerged forms of institutional, juridical, and educational integration. Notwithstanding the negative impacts of such integration, this study unscores the openness of both parties that led to the establishment of a positive dialogue.Este artículo analiza las relaciones entre el Instituto Nacional Indigenista y los tseltales del municipio de Oxchuc, en el contexto de un intento de integración nacional de los indígenas. El estudio de los informes indigenistas y de las comunicaciones proporciona una perspectiva más abierta y matizada sobre un proyecto que ha sido criticado. Aunque el objetivo de los oxchuqueros de desarrollar su economía no tuvo éxito, se creó una cierta integración institucional, jurídica y educacional. A pesar de los impactos negativos de tal integración, pensamos que la apertura de ambas partes permitió el establecimiento de un diálogo positivo

Get PDFThe study has the main objective to analyze community organization in the area of water management for human consumption and domestic use and the role women play in this in urban and rural areas, in the watersheds of Río Sabinal and Cañón del Sumidero in Berriozabal, Chiapas. It was found that the water found in the rivers, springs and slopes is sufficient, but in the dry season this decreases considerably, and it doesn’t meet the needs of those who benefit from these sources. Therefore, the women have to take responsibility to provide the water that is used in the home, which generates more workload. We also observed that the localities at most disadvantage in terms of housing, services and equipment conditions, are those that don’t have a water management committee, which suggests less organization, despite the fact this could be fundamental for water management in communities.El estudio analiza la organización comunitaria en la gestión del agua para consumo humano y uso doméstico y el papel que juegan las mujeres en ella en las localidades urbanas y rurales de las subcuencas Río Sabinal y Cañón del Sumidero en Berriozábal, Chiapas. El agua es suficiente, pero en la época de sequía disminuye y no alcanza para cubrir los requerimientos de quienes se benefician de estas fuentes. Por ello, las mujeres tienen que asumir la responsabilidad de abastecer el agua que se utiliza en el hogar, lo que les genera más carga de trabajo
