Apropiación de la figura de san Diego de Alcalá por una comunidad maya de Campeche
Get PDFThis paper attempts to illustrate some of the mechanisms implemented by the peninsular Mayans inhabiting Nunkiní, Campeche, to appropriate the figure of St. Diego de Alcala, who serves as the patron saint of the population. To do this, based on ethnographic data and oral testimony, I will address three areas in which they show the profound changes and re-elaborations that this entity has been suffering since making his arrival to Nunkiní. That way I intend to show how a sacred character, originally strange to the indigenous cultural universe, went on to become a deity with Mesoamerican characteristics and strong local identity.En este trabajo se ilustran algunos mecanismos implementados por los mayas peninsulares de la comunidad de Nunkiní, Campeche, para apropiarse de la figura de san Diego de Alcalá, el santo patrono del pueblo. Basándome en datos etnográficos y en testimonios orales, me ocuparé de tres ámbitos en los que se ponen de manifiesto las profundas transformaciones y reelaboraciones que ha sufrido este personaje sagrado desde su llegada a Nunkiní. Pretendo mostrar cómo una entidad tan extraña al universo cultural indígena pudo pasar a convertirse en una deidad con características propias de las potencias mesoamericanas y una identidad marcadamente local

Se incluyen datos etnográficos que describen el contexto en el que se centra el estudio. La Cruz Parlante permite a los mayas de Quintana Roo seguir existiendo y los protege, pero para ello debe estar custodiada por los propios mayas

Get PDFIn a democratic society with a market economy, contradictions arise between the exercise of citizenship and the individual´s position as a consumer. The article attempts to resolve these contradictions by considering the rights and duties of citizens and the space between civil society and politics. Faced with the enshrinement of individuality characteristic of the ideology of the market, it will be necessary to strengthen the institution of citizenship as a practice in order to meet the challenges of truly securing the rights and duties of citizenship in the 21st century.En una sociedad democrática sumergida en una economía de mercado, asoman contradicciones entre el ejercicio de la ciudadanía y la posición del individuo como consumidor. En el artículo se tratan de resolver esas contradicciones abordando los derechos y deberes ciudadanos, y la distancia entre la sociedad civil y la política. Frente a la consagración de la individualidad propia de la ideología del mercado, debe potenciarse la institucionalización de la ciudadanía como práctica para afrontar los desafíos de una construcción verdadera de derechos y deberes en el siglo XXI
Vulnerabilidad y activos familiares frente a riesgos. Caso de estudio en Ixil, Yucatán
Get PDFIn this paper we present a case study in the town of Ixil, Yucatan State, Mexico, about the vulnerability of household assets against disaster risk. We applied 81 surveys to local people and realized interviews with nineteen people. We found that hurricanes are a key factor in both the perception of vulnerability and risk situations that cause loss of assets in this area.En esta contribución se presenta un estudio de caso sobre percepciones sociales respecto a la vulnerabilidad de los activos familiares frente a riesgos de desastres en el municipio de Ixil, estado de Yucatán, México. Se aplicaron 81 encuestas a representantes de hogares de la comunidad y se realizaron diecinueve entrevistas semiestructuradas. Se encontró que los huracanes son un factor clave tanto en la percepción sobre la vulnerabilidad, como en las situaciones de riesgo que ocasionan pérdidas de activos en la región

Get PDFThe aim of this paper is to analyze the process of territorial formation of an indigenous community Mam, from production, migration, political and regional processes associated with their culture and ethnicity in the context of border. The analysis shows changes in the socioeconomic and cultural borders forced to migrate to the coffee plantations and later under the influence of international migration and participation in local political community. Outside, sets its boundaries with other communities, acting as a front for expansion by controlling the territory, using search strategy of autonomy. The methodology is based on the demographic and sociological analysis with data from the last 15 years. The studio is located in an indigenous community at the highland area of the Soconusco region, southeast of Mexico.El objetivo es analizar el proceso de conformación territorial de una comunidad indígena mam a partir de procesos productivos, migratorios, políticos y autonómicos ligados a su cultura y etnicidad, en su contexto de frontera. El análisis muestra los cambios en las fronteras socioeconómicas y culturales, los procesos migratorios y sus avances en participación en política local. Al exterior, establece sus límites con otras comunidades, actuando como un frente de expansión mediante el control del territorio, utilizando como estrategia la búsqueda de la autonomía. La metodología se basa en análisis demográfico y sociológico con datos de los últimos quince años
Diversidad religiosa en los textos escolares de Centroamérica
Get PDFDrawing upon images and texts, the article explores how religious diversity is erased in elementary school social science textbooks in Central America. It argues the politics of erasure is a product of nineteenth century narratives of a homogenous nation —with a single religion, language and culture. These narratives persist despite the emergence of multicultural discourses in the context of the fifth century of European colonization of the Americas and the transition towards more democratic regimes in the last decades that would promote intercultural relationships based on civic loyalty or constitutional patriotism opposed to homogenizing nationalisms.En el escrito se explora la invisibilización de la diversidad religiosa en textos e imágenes de los libros escolares de ciencias sociales para educación básica en los países de Centroamérica, la cual es producto de la decimonónica narrativa en torno a la nación homogénea —una religión, una lengua, una cultura—, que sigue dominando a pesar de la proliferación del discurso multicultural desde el quinto centenario del arribo europeo a América y la transición hacia regímenes más democráticos en las últimas décadas, que propugnarían por una convivencia intercultural basada en la lealtad cívica o el patriotismo constitucional
Latinoamérica y el Apocalipsis: íconos visuales en Blade Runner y Elysium
Get PDFThis paper highlights how dystopias projected filmic forms of domination and a set of social tensions in contemporary societies. Blade Runner and Elysium movies are analyzed using four iconographic elements that share: Los Angeles city, abandonment of land by its elites, a multicultural social context, and the presence of social surveillance technologies. The paper explore how these films construct an idea of Latin American, who gives meaning to the futuristic apocalyptic scenarios that draw, while projecting the apocalyptic scenario that Latin America lives today.En el presente trabajo se subraya cómo las distopías fílmicas proyectan formas específicas de dominación y tensiones sociales que es posible encontrar en las sociedades contemporáneas. Se analizan las películas Blade Runner y Elysium a partir de cuatro elementos iconográficos que comparten: la ciudad de Los Ángeles, el abandono de la tierra por sus élites, un contexto social multicultural, así como la presencia de tecnologías de vigilancia social. El trabajo muestra cómo estas películas construyen una idea de lo latinoamericano que da sentido a los escenarios apocalípticos futuros, y proyectan a la vez el presente de las sociedades latinoamericanas
Crisis rural, pobreza y hambre en Chiapas
Get PDFThe stark image of the rural crisis and poverty in Mexico in the second decade of the century is expressed clearly in the traditionally poorer states, Chiapas, Guerrero and Oaxaca, which ones in 2012 add up about four million hungry people. In Chiapas, although a reduction of 5.6 percentage points is reported in people who suffer from hunger. The situation acquires more complex features because two of the reasons behind the armed uprising of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation were the poverty and the hunger. In this article I analyze, the crisis in rural Chiapas, the poverty and the hunger, from a relational perspective, having as support the theory of crisis and the data generated by some federal agencies.La crisis y la pobreza en el México actual se expresan con claridad en las entidades tradicionalmente más pobres (Chiapas, Guerrero y Oaxaca), que en 2012 sumaron cerca de cuatro millones de personas con hambre. En Chiapas, aun con una reducción de 5.6 puntos porcentuales de la población que padece hambre, la situación adquiere rasgos más complejos porque entre las causas del levantamiento del EZLN figuran la pobreza y el hambre. En este artículo se analizan la crisis en el campo, la pobreza y el hambre, con sustento en la teoría de la crisis y datos de dependencias federales
"Desde arriba o desde abajo": construcciones y articulaciones en la investigación sobre educación intercultural en México
Get PDFThis paper is an approach to the epistemic communities that make up the sub-field of intercultural education in Mexico and reflects on the scopes and processes which articulate them. Firstly, it presents the circumstances that favor the transition from the research on indigenous education towards intercultural education research and it explains the joints that allow its appearance. Secondly, it describes the field that articulates the epistemic communities contrasted by the looks "from above or from below". It concludes with a reflection on the challenges that the study of epistemic communities and the research on intercultural education faces in the current political-educational situations.Se realiza una aproximación a las comunidades epistémicas que conforman el subcampo de la educación intercultural en México y se reflexiona sobre los ámbitos y procesos que la articulan. Se exponen las circunstancias que favorecen una transición de la investigación sobre la educación indígena hacia la educación intercultural y se explican las coyunturas que permiten su emergencia. Posteriormente se describe el campo que articula las comunidades epistémicas diferenciadas por miradas "desde arriba y desde abajo". Se concluye con una reflexión sobre los desafíos que enfrentan el estudio de las comunidades epistémicas y la investigación sobre educación intercultural
