How to improve social connections among older people (Webinar Series on Ageing)
Loneliness and social isolation have been described as the new geriatric giants because of their prevalence and the health consequences for older people. This has led to increasing interest in interventions to improve social connections especially given emerging evidence about social isolation as a risk factor for developing dementia. This presentation will highlight social connection interventions among older adults living in residential aged care and community settings. Information about a new trial, Befriending with GENIE (BwGEN), will also be presented - an innovative intervention to reduce loneliness and increase social support and service access for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) people living with dementia and their carers.
Presentation took place 22nd August 2025
