Coumarins and P450s, Studies Reported to-Date
Get PDFCytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs) are important phase I enzymes involved in themetabolism of endogenous and xenobiotic compounds mainly through mono-oxygenation reactions into more polar and easier to excrete species. In addition to their role in detoxification, they play important roles in the biosynthesis of endogenous compounds and the bioactivation of xenobiotics. Coumarins, phytochemicals abundant in food and commonly used in fragrances and cosmetics, have been shown to interact with P450 enzymes as substrates and/or inhibitors. In this review, these interactions and their significance in pharmacology and toxicology are discussed in detail
A Case Study in User Experience and Experiential Design: Jewish Female / Breast Cancer / Saudi Arabia
No full textUser experience (UX) design is a process in which a physical or non-physical product is developed by focusing on the user\u27s needs and interaction with the product. The goal in UX is to produce a product or brand that signifies a positive response from a user when seeing, using, or interacting with the product. The design thinking process, which is utilized in UX, is organized in phases: defining the problem, researching competitors and users, brainstorming and sketching ideas, strategizing, prototyping, production, and evaluation. This article discusses UX design through the context of human experience and interactivity with a non-physical product. Beginning by examining discourse on subconscious and conscious thinking processes, the article describes the psychology of human perception when seeing, using, or interacting with a situation or thing. The article compares UX design and human experience by reviewing the work of Professor Shayna T. Blum, who presents the research stage of a design thinking process using visual and textual content as artifacts to signify an experience. As a Jewish American woman diagnosed with breast cancer while living and working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 2012-2014, Blum acts as a user, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (culture, environment and healthcare) acts as the product
Why do Some Individuals Abstain from Voting? The Impact of Age, Education, and Confidence in the Court System on Voter Participation
Get PDFThe purpose of this research is to discover why some individuals abstain from voting in America. Using this information, countries may be able to increase voter turnout amongst their population. Literature provided several theories as to why individuals abstain from voting. This research focused on the impact of: age, education, and confidence in the courts system. A regression was conducted using GSS 1998 survey data to observe the impact of these three variables on voter turnout. It was found in this model that age and education have a statistically significant impact on voter turnout, but confidence in the court system does not. In order to develop a fully specified model, confidence in the court system was removed from the model. The results indicated that age and education describe 13.5% of the variance in voter turnout. Methods to increase voter turnout are suggested based on these results
James Baldwin’s “Going to Meet the Man” and Police Brutality in The United States

This essay exposes the United States corrupt law enforcement and the psychological aspects of racism. It initially presents a connection between the 1960s and our contemporary time. Police Brutality in The United States illustrates what has and continues to affect the lives of African Americans. This essay broadcasts the injustices faced in the everyday lives of African Americans by unmasking the inequality and racist ideologies that the United States has been founded on. Initially it discusses the time period of which “Going to Meet the Man” was written. Baldwin’s piece is successfully compared and contrasted to demonstrate the connection between injustices of police brutality and toxic masculinity. It also discusses the similarity in brutality faced in this contemporary moment. Police Brutality in The United States demands justice for the fallen soldiers who’ve fought for equality and lost their lives due to racism. According to mappingpoliceviolence.org the United States law enforcement killed 1,147 people in 2017. African Americans were only 25% of the population murdered, they are only 13% of the population. There were only 23 days in 2018 that law enforcement did not kill any individuals. African Americans are three times more likely to be murdered by law enforcement than White people. Within these murders 21% of African American victims were unarmed. This shows that it has never been about crime. It has always been about the color of their skin. There is no accountability for law enforcements actions, 99% of cases in 2015 did not result in officers being convicted of their crimes. Baldwin’s short story illustrates the literal and psychological emasculation of African Americans through vivid flashbacks. This short story highlights injustice and racism within a corrupt institution that represents the United States
