Trends and Patterns in Social Robotics Research: A Global Perspective
As technologies continue to advance, the role of robots cannot be underestimated. One of the essential robots is a social robot that works, interacts, communicates, and supports people. Hence, this study explores its evolution. This study used bibliometric research to analyze 1226 published articles from the Web of Science database between June 2003 and June 2023. The analysis shows an increase in the number of published articles, and this trend is likely to continue in the future. The analysis also shows that leading scholars come from the United States of America, China, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The analysis reveals that published articles still need to consider human values and sustainability as well as the functionality of artificial intelligence. This paper concludes by proposing areas for further study on social robots
Student Nurse Perceptions of Teaching Excellence
Background
To continually improve programme delivery, it is important that student nurses have an opportunity to voice opinions on teaching excellence within their programme of study.
Aim
To explore final year pre-registration nursing students’ views on teaching excellence.
Method
A qualitative survey approach drawn from Braun et al (2021) was employed to collect anonymous feedback from one cohort of final year nursing students with 64 responses (25% response rate).
Findings
Four themes were generated from the responses received which related to perceptions of teaching excellence: Interactive learning ; Assessment ; Practice experiences; Student support
Conclusion
Factors associated with teaching excellence are varied depending on individual viewpoints. Clinical skills/simulation, and practice focused sessions were most equated with this term, alongside an identified need for varied interactive teaching and learning activities related to assessment requirements. Feeling valued as a student is seen to be instrumental in achieving teaching excellence

Balancing Integration and Role Delineation in Public Addiction Services: Insights from Northern Italy
This study explored the complex dynamics within multidisciplinary organizations involved in addiction treatment services by investigating how professional roles, operational tasks, and systemic challenges interact and affect overall performance and service outcomes. The research was conducted within public services for addictions in Northern Italy, utilizing an ethnographic approach that included participant observation and semi-structured interviews with professionals from various disciplines. An analysis of the organizational system revealed inconsistencies between the intended goals and actual strategies, with a homogeneous approach aimed at increasing the similarities among professional categories. Upon closer examination, this homogeneous approach revealed several challenges including an unclear delineation of professional groups and overlapping responsibilities. Consequently, an excess of integrative work was observed, potentially compromising the system functionality and efficiency. While integration is important, our findings suggest the need to balance integration with other systemic functions and clearly define roles in multidisciplinary settings. By employing an ethnographic approach to public services for addictions, this study provides a novel perspective on organizational structure and its impact on service delivery. The application of Parson’s four-function paradigm to understanding system functionality also offers fresh insights into the complexities of these organizations
Understanding the Ageing Customer and Designing Services for Ageing in Place
Many developed countries are experiencing a marked rise in the ageing population, with a growing proportion of adults entering older age groups. Whilst the literature has focused on the design, management, and quality of services within senior living facilities, less attention has been paid to services for ageing in one’s home and community. This article seeks to add understanding of the needs of older customers and how services and service processes can be designed to support their independent living and ageing in place. These services can enable older customers who feel challenged by daily tasks to continue to live in the community as opposed to in senior facilities. However, the literature on the design-ing of services has failed to keep pace with the growing trend of older customers and there is currently a deficiency of literature focusing on services designed for ageing in place. Therefore, this article addresses this lacuna through a thematic review of the literature in the field of service design, gerontology, and hospitality. The article reconceptualises hospitality in both hospitality and non-hospitality services and offers a theoretical and prac-tical perspective into service design through the hospitality and human-design lens to enable older customers to age in place

“It’s a Story of Another World”: Perceptions of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Among Japanese Athletes With Psychiatric Impairments
This study explored how athletes with psychiatric impairment in Japan perceived the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Data from 15 interviews were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis; consequently, three themes were generated: (1) The Paralympics: “A Story of Another World”—the participants viewed the Paralympics only as a movement and not directly related to them; (2) “Do I Really Have to Work That Hard?”—“supercrip” representations through the Paralympics led to the disempowerment and disablement of people with psychiatric impairment, exacerbating their symptoms; (3) “A Futsal That Really Isn't Very Good”—the privileged status of the Paralympics presents only a facet of disability sport, which has resulted in other sports for people with psychiatric impairment, such as football, not being properly valued. This study adds to the literature regarding the legacy of the Paralympics and emphasizes moving beyond using the Paralympics as a vehicle for a more inclusive world
Genomic Characterization of Serratia fonticola (EBS19) as a Biocontrol Agent against Botrytis cinerea
Botrytis cinerea (Bc), a plant pathogenic fungus, is the causative agent of gray mold disease, which rapidly develops resistance to fungicides in cultivation areas. This study explores the biocontrol potential of various bacterial isolates collected from the rhizosphere of tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum). Bacterial isolates were purified and neutralized through phenol vaporization for 2 days. Colonies that inhibited pathogen spore growth were confirmed via antibiosis effect using in vitro bioassays. Bacterial colonies demonstrated up to 84% inhibition of pathogen growth at 7-day post-inoculation (dpi) with a one-layer agar diffusion test and up to 70% inhibition with a double-layer agar diffusion test, compared to control plates. Both bacterial suspension and filtrate significantly suppressed pathogen mycelium growth at 11 and 14 dpi. The isolate used in further studies was identified as Serratia fonticola (EBS19) through whole-genome sequencing. Annotated genome data revealed the presence of genes encoding enzymes crucial for pathogen inhibition. Carbon preference analyses identified specific carbon sources unique to the bacterial strain. These findings are advantageous for developing effective biopreparations that ensure bacterial strain stability in practical applications. In addition, the primary focus was on the interaction between the pathogen’s major stress regulator protein (BAG1) and the bacterial glycoside hydrolase. Protein–protein docking analyses elucidated strong interaction between BAG1 and bacterial glycoside hydrolase. In conclusion, this study provides a knowledge for further research using recombinant DNA and gene cloning techniques on the bacterium’s mapped genome
