The occurrence of white grouper Epinephelus aeneus (Epinephelidae) from the Algerian coast (Southern Mediterranean Sea)
Get PDFThe authors report the capture of a specimen of white grouper, Epinephelus aeneus (E. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1817) from the Algerian coast where the occurrence of the species remained questionable. The capture of the present specimen which measured 830 mm in total length and weighed over 7 kilogram, constitute the first substantiated record of the species from the Algerian coast; which could be included in the local ichthyofauna. However, other captures are needed to know if a viable population is established in the Algerian marine waters and to state about its real status in this area

Get PDFThis paper addresses the topic of social dimensions of ethno-linguistic boundaries in the Azerbaijani community in Georgia’s Kvemo Kartli region, including language policy, linguistic landscape and structural problems associated with quite low integration. Based on the material collected during the field visits to the Kvemo Kartli region in 2018–2023, I attempt to outline the issues which restrict this minority’s access to learning Georgian and the reasons for this state of affairs. Therefore, my research makes a contribution to the study of social and language issues in the Azerbaijani minority in Georgia
An isomorphism between projective models of toric and hyperplane graphic arrangements
Get PDFThis paper presents a bridge between the theories of wonderful models associated with toric arrangements and wonderful models associated with hyperplane arrangements. In a previous work, the same authors noticed that the model of the toric arrangement of type associated with the minimal building set is isomorphic to the one of the hyperplane arrangement of type associated again with the minimal building set; it is natural to ask if there exist similar isomorphisms between other families of arrangements. The aim of this paper is to study one such family, namely the family of arrangements defined by graphs. The main result states that there is indeed an isomorphism between the model of the toric arrangement defined by a graph and the model of the hyperplane arrangement defined by the cone of , provided that a suitable building set is chosen
Digital equity and cultural integrity: internationalising higher education in rural and mountainous regions
Get PDFThis article explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI), when guided by ethical principles, can support inclusive and context-sensitive strategies for the internationalisation of higher education. Rural and mountainous areas, even in advanced countries, often remain excluded from academic networks due to isolation and limited infrastructure. Drawing on the values of the Council of Europe's ETINED platform-ethics, transparency, and integrity-the article examines how AI can enhance trust, autonomy, and cultural diversity in academic cooperation. It highlights AI applications such as multilingual access, virtual mobility, and adaptive learning tools for small and remote HEIs. Risks like algorithmic bias and identity erosion are also addressed
The Rhetoric of Imperial Orders: Napoleon Bonaparte, his family and their dream of the reconquest of Haiti
Get PDFThe impact of Napoleon’s invasion of Haiti had far reaching consequences for colonial history. It was responsible for the Louisiana Purchase by the United States in 1803 and the first successful slave uprising in the colonial New World. The failure of Napoleon’s campaign illustrated the weakness of his military strategies but also his dynastic claims that supported them. By engaging his brother-in-law, Emanuel Leclerc, Napoleon lost France’s most important Caribbean and North American territories. His presumed dynastic superiority was an echo of his claim to European white superiority over the rights of native and Afro cultures that was overturned for the first time in the history of colonial slavery. An examination of the roles of his family in this colonial catastrophe demonstrates the extent to which their claims to dynastic and European superiority dominated their racist social and political rhetoric which inspired their campaign to reclaim Haiti. Napoleon Bonaparte and his family participated in the mission to reconquer Haiti after its governor, Toussaint Louverture, declared its independence in 1801 by drawing up a new constitution. In response, Napoleon organized an invasion led by his sister, Pauline’s husband, General Emmanuel Leclerc in 1802. Napoleon’s rhetoric established a theater of imperial conquest and revoked both French Republic’s Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen and Toussaint’s Haitian Constitution. Napoleon’s desire to reconquer Haiti was also inspired by his wife, Josephine’s creole identify and fantasy of plantation wealth she enjoyed as a child in Martinique. This fantasy of an elite plantation society was enjoyed again by Pauline in Haiti where she organized elaborate soirees for its upper echelons before the death of Leclerc from yellow fever. The rhetoric of social imperialism was practiced at her parties by her guests and reinforced the resurgence of the French colonial empire. The rhetoric of republicanism was sacrificed to the grandeur and culture of imperialism and colonialism by Napoleon and his family who sought to uphold his emerging empire and dynasty
