Ad continendos homines = Containing people
The article explores the genealogy of security governance through the theoretical lens of Michel Foucault, focusing on the role of the city as a space of biopolitics and surveillance. Starting with a comparison to Montesquieu, it investigates the shift from disciplinary forms of power, based on practices of punishment and spatial control, to techniques of governing the population and security, which configure an integrated biopolitical apparatus. The city thus becomes not only an object of regulation but also a site for the production of norms and power strategies that shape subjectivities and the management of social risks. The article contributes to a critical rereading of the Foucauldian paradigm, highlighting the complexity and ambiguity of contemporary governance techniques
Edith Stein e Edmund Husserl. Scambi filosofici = Edith Stein and Edmund Husserl. Philosophical Exchanges
This article reflects on Edith Stein and Edmund Husserl. Philosophical Exchanges by Angela Ales Bello (translated by Antonio Calcagno), highlighting three central and original contributions. First, it reevaluates the philosophical relationship between Husserl and Stein, emphasizing Stein's commitment to Husserl's transcendental turn, contrary to interpretations that portray her as a realist phenomenologist. Second, it outlines a shared perspective of "transcendental realism," where the world's meaning is constituted in relation to the subject without falling into subjectivist idealism. Lastly, the paper underscores Stein's original contributions, particularly her dual anthropology, her phenomenology of the person and sociality, and her integration of phenomenology with Christian metaphysics. Ales Bello's work emerges as a milestone in Husserl and Stein scholarship
La prospettiva dell'ecumene di Berque nell'antropocene-urbanocene. Il richiamo all'etica in risposta al superamento dell'antropocentrismo = Berque's ecumene perspective in the anthropocene-urbanocene. The call for ethics in response to overcoming anthropocentrism
In Être humains sur la terre, Augustin Berque proposes a relational concept of ecumene, criticizing Serres's holistic attribution of moral and legal personality to the Earth. Berque also implicitly critiques Posthumanist approaches, which risk dissolving the human/non-human distinction-especially in smart city models. His project highlights the need for a geography informed by ontology, and vice versa. Berque warns against an ontological flattening that erases the ethical specificity of the human being-uniquely capable of moral and legal responsibility. This perspective reframes the human-non-human relationship without denying differences. The essay proposes using Berque's thought to rethink the smart city's limits and develop a more balanced urban framework
Nel salotto della signora von F. Tre novelle di Paul Heyse: Frau von F. (1878), Die schwarze Jakobe (1883) e Ninon (1900)
The article explores the role of the setting and atmosphere that forms the backdrop to the oral narrative act of three framed novellas by Paul Heyse (1830-1914): Frau von F. (1878), Die schwarze Jakobe (1883) and Ninon (1900). Frau von F.’s living room, both in the Swiss hotel (Frau von F.) and in her Berlin home (Die schwarze Jakobe; Ninon), is as an intimate space that facilitates confessions and reflections. The open French window in Frau von F. connects the inside with the outside, thus creating a contrast with the symbolic closure typical of places where confessions of intimate and personal experiences are staged. The lamp with the green lampshade becomes a recurring element, a symbol of intimacy and a narrative guide, encouraging the transition from emotional tension to narration. In Die schwarze Jakobe, Frau von F. recounts the tragic life of the peasant girl Jakobe in an indoor evening setting, a mirror of her introspection. In Ninon, the scene shifts around a tea table, where the university professor narrates the story of the sculptress Ninon, offering a reflection on the female condition between independence and conformism. The three novellas show how the scenic space, with its theatricality gathered in the word, amplifies the emotional dynamics, transforming the act of telling into a ritual of listening and intimate revelation
Feminist Responses to Anti-Abortion Attacks in Italy and Slovenia. Building Democratic Innovations in Contexts of De-Democratization
This paper examines contemporary feminist movements’ repertoires of action in Italy and Slovenia in response to informal challenges to abortion rights amidst the rise of anti-gender mobilizations and processes of de-democratization. While legal frameworks protecting abortion remain intact in both countries, informal barriers, forms of boycott and hijack of existing laws, such as misinformation, conscientious objection, and judgmental discourses undermine access to reproductive rights. Through qualitative analysis of interviews with feminist activists, the study identifies innovative grassroots practices – such as mapping conscientious objectors, accompaniment services, and public education campaigns – as key “democratic innovations.” These actions not only address gaps left by institutional frameworks but also promote self-determination, solidarity, and care-based peer support. By analyzing these feminist repertoires, the paper highlights how grassroot strategies counteract anti-abortion threats and stimulate democratic resilience in contexts of de-democratization. It contributes to the literature on feminist democratic innovations by expanding the understanding of how movements engage in transformative practices beyond formal political arenas to safeguard reproductive autonomy
