EnIn the figure of the prefica (wailer or mourner) from Grecìa Salentina and in her songs the normativity of the language is confirmed and maintained as an order of the community. The persistence of Griko language in the ritual songs of death performs a function of conservation and return of collective values from the point of view of a mother's symbolic order.

EnLaments (morolòja) are part of the rich poetic production of the Greek-Salentine area. Concerning all the genres of traditional songs (like love, spite, work, emigration, etc.), laments are the most beautiful. In these songs, love for the departed one and grief for the bereaved merge into a pathos of high poetic value. Laments (morolòja) are the songs that fascinate the most not only because they deal with themes that touch the soul but also of the difficulty one encounters in listening to them live; in accordance with funeral rites and traditions, they have always captured many scholars' attention. In this article, an attempt has been made to outline the funeral traditions of the Greeks of Salento. The information, drawn from the available bibliography, has been ascertained and enriched through the interviews of elderly women from Hellenophone countries. In the bibliography used in this work there are no references of the structure and typology of laments (morolòja). The exordium is only indicated well in MOROSI 1870. A careful analysis though, of some texts not only confirms the existence of the exordium, but also identifies the presence of several parts that give the song a complete structure: the introduction to the subject, the song itself, the conclusion of the song as well as a final consideration.

Itinerari di mediatizzazione del ciclismo nella canzone italiana: forme, racconti, immaginario = Itineraries of mediatization of cycling in Italian song: forms, stories, imaginary

    No full text
This study explores the role of the song-form within the phenomena of mediatization of sport, focusing on the case of cycling in the Italian mediascape. After illustrating the different forms of sports mediatization in songs, by reporting on the case study, this paper will highlight, first of all, the specificity of the paratextual mediatization of the songs in the Giro d'Italia. These songs represent a cohesive and identifying medium in a historical moment in which the media-narrative of this sport loses the epic, romantic and mythological stylistic features that it had possessed for a long time. After that, the investigation of the forms of textual mediatization will reveal to what extent they are addressed to some practices of revitalization of an imaginary of the past, underlining an ancestral dimension of the bicycle that was served in post-war Italy to nurture an emotional inspiration useful for relieving oneself of the difficulties of war. This aspect is re-vitalized on a textual level in songs that are configured as stories, but which have not been able to transform themselves – as happens for example in football – into practices of performative and collective sharin

As Wide as the Roots of the Olive Tree: Indigenous Communities of Masafer Yatta and their Eco-Resistance

In Palestine, the eradication of the Indigenous population extends beyond physical displacement and destruction; it entails ecological transformations. Analogous to other settler-colonial contexts, nature is not merely annihilated; rather, it is molded to suit the colonizer's intentions, resulting in modification. This article examines the eco-resistance by the Indigenous people of Masafer Yatta as an Indigenous response to the environmental impact of the Israeli neocolonial entity. By delineating the tactics employed by settlers in the region to erase the Indigenous presence, the article aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of colonial dominance over Indigenous lives and knowledge across multiple scales. This analysis is grounded in extensive field immersion spanning from 2016 to 2022. The article addresses critical questions: How does Indigenous resistance manifest in the Masafer Yatta region? What strategies have Israeli settlers implemented on the ground to supplant the Indigenous population in the area? How does settler colonial dominance intersect with macro-economic dimensions and policies? While these questions have been explored within Palestine Studies scholarship and literature, this analysis is distinctive in its reliance on the specific case of Masafer Yatta. This area has received limited scholarly attention to date

Perspectives of the Antifa Movement in Cyprus

    Get PDF
The article examines two different leftist, Antifa actors in Cyprus, a political party and a societal group (i.e., an organized football fan group), in relation to two issues. First, we scrutinize their action repertoire in order to identify the type of activities they embrace to tackle the fascist/far-right threat and activity. Second, we study their perceptions regarding the extent of the fascist threat and the use of violence in their treatment of far-right organizations and activists. The article seeks to understand how antifascists in Cyprus understand resistance against far-right organizations, and violence in particular as one manifestation of this resistance. The methodology relied on fieldwork that combines two different methods: analysis of social media posts over a span of 11 years (2010-2021) and selected interviews with activists and cadres from the two actors. We find that they share similar perceptions about the extent and the nature of the fascist threat in Cyprus. They also share similarities with regard to the overall toolkit they use to deal with the far-right. However, they deviate significantly in the way they perceive the use of violence against fascists
