    Get PDF
This contribution aims to shed light on the figure of Tommaso Corsetto, a Dominican cleric who played an active role in the drafting of the Dizionario della lingua italiana by Niccolò Tommaseo and Bernardo Bellini. This paper will analyse the life and work of the 19th-century linguist, philologist, translator and lexicographer, with a view to highlighting the many facets of his character. The investigation is grounded in unpublished documents, including the correspondence between Corsetto and Tommaseo, which is preserved in the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale in Florence. The documents examined reveal not only his involvement in the revision of Tommaseo's version of the Vangeli, but also and above all his influence on other significant lexicographic works of the 19th century, including Giuseppe Manuzzi's Vocabolario della lingua italiana and the fifth edition of the Vocabolario della Crusca. A thorough analysis of his contributions to Tommaseo-Bellini, which number over five thousand, corroborates his substantial influence on the development and codification of the Italian language during the 19th century

    Il gran libro della nazione

In 1863, when solemnly dedicating the first fascicles of the new edition of the Vocabolario della Crusca to the King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, the academicians described their work as «il gran libro della Nazione». Such a statement would have been unthinkable for the Academy in earlier times, not only because, up until a century prior, the word nation carried a different meaning, but also because the very concept of a "dictionary" and its purpose had been understood differently. Recognizing this lexicographic paradigm shift, which took place between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, is essential to identifying a significant turning point in the history of Italian dictionaries

The present article explains how bilingual lexicography with Italian is dealt with within the ALON project. As in the project itself, the focus is on German-Italian dictionaries. The first section uses specific examples from the 19th century to explain why their study is very enlightening and necessary in order to complete the history of Italian lexicography. The second section describes the resources already available on dictionaries for other language pairs (Italian-French and Italian-Spanish) and subsequently explains how the ALON project is working in order to catalogue and study the German-Italian dictionaries (and subsequently dictionaries of other language pairs) with the aim of closing the existing research gap

EnThe ager publicus populi Romani in Hirpinia was established after the Hannibal's war, as a punishment of the rebel communities. Lands were distributed among veterans of Scipio, Gracchan assignees, veterans of Sulla and beneficiaries of the lex Iulia agraria (59 BC.). The praefecti of the praetor urbanus administered the justice for them. Around mid- I century BC., the land assignees located in the upper valley of the Calore and of the Ofanto were confered to Compsa, while those in the valley of the Ansanto were organized into an autonomous local community whose identity is still unknown.
