    Get PDF
Neutralizing explosives is one of precision and accuracy tasks handled by law enforcement personnel; it can be error-prone and life threatening. This paper seeks to demonstrate an improved use of remote controlled robots for Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) using gesture manipulation. There exist a variety of EOD robots capable of handling different types of Explosives. This work is concerned with a class of EOD that uses the principle of wireless transmission of data packets within the ISM 2.4GHz spectrum, electrical H-Bridge circuits, servo-mechanisms and potential division in its underlying architecture and operation. The class is a fully integrated and non-autonomous system used by Law Enforcement Agents as First Responders. The developed EOD robot possesses two arms for gripping and manipulation. The robot arms are controlled by inputting commands on a handheld remote control or by human arm gesticulation. For gesture control, flexing the index finger closes the arm’s gripper, flexing the thumb moves the wheels forward and backward, tilting the back of the controlling hand tilts the robot’s elbow and rotating the wrist controls the waist

    Get PDF
Face recognition system is an application for identifying someone from image or videos. Face recognition is classified into three stages i.e. Face detection, Feature Extraction, Face Recognition. Face detection is an application for detecting object, analyzing the face, understanding the localization of the face and face recognition. It is used in many application for new communication interface, security etc. The face detection algorithm converts the input images from a camera to binary pattern and transverse the face location of candidates using the AdaBoost Algorithm. AdaBoost Algorithm selects the best set of Haar features and implement it in cascade to decrease the detection time. Face recognition is a pattern recognition technique and one of the most important biometrics; it is used in a broad spectrum of applications. The accuracy is not a major problem that specifies the performance of automatic face recognition system alone, the time factor is also considered a major factor in real time environments. Recent architecture of the computer system can be employed to solve the time problem, this architecture represented by multi-core CPUs and many-core GPUs that provide the possibility to perform various tasks by parallel processing

    Get PDF
This paper considers the problem of the robust stabilisation of a class of continuous Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) systems under specifications. In order to guarantee the stabilisation of the plant with very large parameter uncertainties or variations, an output derivative estimation controller is considered. The design of such controller that guarantee desired  induced gain performance is examined. Furthermore, a simple procedure for achieving the  norm performance is proved for any all-poles single-input/single-output second order plant. The proof of stability is based on the polytopic representation of the closed loop under Lyapunov conditions and system transformations. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified via a numerical example

Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and which is considered today as a global health emergency. Long before this pandemic, several others such as the plague of Athens, the plague of Antonine, the black plague, the Spanish flu, cholera, the Asian flu, AIDS raged, with consequences as fatal, even more serious than covid-19. The emergence of AI over the past ten years has brought it to the forefront of the response to this disease. The objective of this work is to present the significant contribution of AI in the fight against the new coronavirus, comparing it to previous large pandemics. A preliminary search of information related to past pandemics and covid-19 has been carried out. Next, the contribution of AI following the WHO framework for combating pandemics was presented. Finally, the discussion part resulted in the conclusion that if AI had already been fundamentally implemented during the time of the other major pandemics, the damage to human losses would have been less

Bluetooth is one of the most ubiquitous technologies in smart phone today and its prominence in other devices is rising rapidly. It has become the De Facto technology used when there is need for device-to-device communication. However, the evolving standard has much more to offer. Bluetooth can power many applications due to capabilities. A key metric of Bluetooth is the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and depending on the readings one can infer locality. This study evaluates existing research that attempts localization implemented using the Bluetooth protocol and the metrics that power those applications. A proof-of-concept software is developed to further investigate the feasibility of presence detection using Bluetooth Low Energy without connection to a device.&nbsp

Design of a Digital Game-Based Learning Environment for Solving Quadratic Equations Using Completing-the-Square-Method

    Get PDF
Various preconceptions about the effectiveness of applying digital-games approach in tandem with traditional teaching methods subsist in spite of learners increasing usage of digital devices and digital games. This trend obviously underplays the existing technological advancements made in respect to digital devices and computer game programming. This research paper applied the digital game approach to the teaching of mathematics with a view to boosting learner’s interest while mitigating boredom, difficulty and apprehension towards solving problems. It employed story-telling technique and role-play (both fun elements) to mathematics learning while still preserving the traditional stepwise approach to problem-solving in mathematics. A digital game-based environment was developed based on the battleship game. This environment was used to learn how to solve the quadratic equation using completing the square method. Performance evaluation was carried out to determine if the system aligns with the underlined objectives. The findings showed that using the digital game-based learning system helps in reducing learners’ apprehension in solving the quadratic problem and improved their cognitive skills in solving quadratic equations

Many supermarkets today do not have a strong forecast of their yearly sales. This is mostly due to the lack of the skills, resources and knowledge to make sales estimation. At best, most supermarket and chain store use adhoc tools and processes to analyze and predict sales for the coming year. The use of traditional statistical method to forecast supermarket sales has met a lot of challenges unaddressed and mostly results in the creation of predictive models that perform poorly.  The era of big data coupled with access to massive compute power has made machine learning model the best for sales forecast. In this paper, we investigated the forecasting of sales with three machine learning algorithms and compare their predictive ability. Three different methods used are K-Nearest Neighbor, Gradient Boosting and Random forest. The data used to train the machine learning models are data provided by Data Science Nigeria on the Zindi platform, the data were collected from a supermarket chain called “Chukwudi Supermarkets”. The results show that the Random Forest algorithm performs slightly better than the other two models, we saw that Gradient Boosting models were prone to over-fitting easily and that K-Nearest Neighbor even though fast, performs poorest among the three

Design of a MPPT System Based on Modified Grey Wolf Optimization Algorithm in Photovoltaic System under Partially Shaded Condition

    Get PDF
Conventional Maximum Potential Monitoring strategies such as perturbation and observation, incremental conduct, and climbing can effectively monitor the maximum power point in uniform shading, whereas failing in a partially shaded condition. Nevertheless, it is difficult to achieve optimal and reliable power by using photovoltaics. So, to solve this issue, this article proposes to monitor the photovoltaic system\u27s global optimum powerpoint for partial shading with a Modified Gray Wolf Optimizer (MGWO) based maximum power point tracking algorithm. Under partial shadows, a mathematical model of the PV system is built with a single diode, EGWO is used to monitor global maximum power points.  A photovoltaic system includes deciding which converter is used to increase photovoltaic power generation. The MPPT architecture uses a modified gray wolf optimization algorithm to quickly track the output power and reduce photovoltaic oscillations. The efficiency of the maximum power tracker is better than the GWO algorithm of up to 0,4 s with the modified gray wolf optimization algorithm. Converters are used to resolve the power losses often occurring in PV systems with a soft-buck converter process.  The output of the power generator is greater than the soft-switching buck converter. The simulation and experimental results obtained suggest that both the P & O and IPSO MPPTs are superior to the proposed MPPT algorithm, the proposed algorithm increases the traceability efficiency. The suggested algorithm has the fastest follow-up speed since the ? value decreases during the iteration exponentially

    Get PDF
Metadata extraction is the process of describing extrinsic and intrinsic qualities of the resource such as document, image, video, including getting data from references. References form an essential part of electronic scholarly publications. A reference is the way of giving acknowledgment to individuals for their creative and intellectual works that one utilized in his or her research work. It can also be used to locate particular sources and combat plagiarism. A reference style dictates the information necessary for a reference and how the information is ordered. Accurate and automatic reference metadata generation provides scalability, interoperability and usability for digital libraries of both public and private institution and their collections. Accurate reference metadata extraction becomes an intriguing task to researchers who want to collect data of scientific publications; therefore, this research work proposes a metadata extraction from references of different styles with the use of regular expression. This work accurately extract metadata such as author, title of article, volume, year of publication and institution from references of different styles limiting it to six referencing style
