Employee Innovative Behavior and the Role of Creative Personality, Conscientiousness, and Psychological Safety
The capacity of employees to generate and implement innovative ideas in the workplace is a key source of gaining and sustaining a competitive edge and achieving organizational effectiveness (Zhu & Zhang, 2019). Specifically, the innovative behavior of employees, defined as an employee’s ability to generate and implement useful ideas at work, is critical to overall organizational innovation (Newman, Tse, Schwarz, & Nielsen, 2018). Under the umbrella of employee innovation are two closely linked, but distinctly different, constructs: idea generation and idea implementation (T.M. Amabile, 1988). Research is scarce in the examination of both individual antecedents and various moderating factors and their effects on idea generation and idea implementation as separate dimensions. The present study sought to examine the relationship of the personality variables of self-reported creativity and conscientiousness on idea generation and idea implementation as distinct outcome measures. Additionally, psychological safety—a workplace environment variable—was examined in its potential moderating influence personality and innovative behavior. To address the impact of both personality and environmental variables on employee innovative behavior, participants were recruited from Qualtrics, a research platform. Measures of the personality variables of self-reported creativity and conscientiousness combined with the moderating variable of psychological safety were evaluated to assess the effect on both idea generation and idea implementation as separate outcomes. By demonstrating both the effects of personality characteristics and the quality of the work environment on employee innovation, this research adds to what scholars know about employee innovative behavior. Companies who use research as a guide to design specific interventions could benefit from this study’s potential contribution

Investigation and Design of Software Defined Networking Applied to Storage Area Network Connectivity
A large enterprise with a critical reliance on Information Technology (IT) must manage a wide variety of connectivity products and protocols such as Local Area Networks (LAN) and Storage Area Networks (SAN). SANs and LANs intersect in large enterprises with multiple data centers but require different tools for similar tasks. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a new and evolving set of techniques, tools, and standards intended to virtualize existing Internet Protocol (IP) networks and make their configurations more flexible and respond rapidly to a variety of requirements. SDN allows network engineers to simplify and automate network management with open protocols that can reduce cost. SANs are proprietary, expensive, and can be complex to configure and manage, which are many of the problems that engendered SDN for LANs, but SDN has not been extended to manage them. Some proprietary attempts to paint SANs as more SDN-like do not make them open, simple, and easier to integrate and automate, which are some key drivers of SDN. This paper investigates how SDN can be extended to manage SANs as well as LANs. SDN V1.2 added experimental match fields which enable switching SAN traffic in the same way as LAN traffic. Comparisons of current SAN management and methods using SDN experimenter match fields designed herein are shown. Using SDN to handle both SANs and LANs can address some issues of complexity and configuration to make it simpler to manage and automate these mixed environments as a whole. Using these modifications, SDN switches could manage both LANs and SANs, not as an overlay or a diluted proprietary solution, but as a simple, cheaper, open solution that is easier to deploy and automate. These modifications show that SDN enables innovation, one of its first driving factors
The Show Must (Not) Go On: The Effects of COVID-19 on New York’s Broadway Professionals
Live events have been drastically impacted during the coronavirus pandemic, especially Broadway. The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the struggles being faced by Broadway professionals as a result of Covid-19 and Broadway shutting down. As for the methodology, it was decided to interview various Broadway professionals about their experience working in the industry during a worldwide pandemic. The main areas of focus were financial and psychological repercussions. The analysis section discusses the negative financial impact of the shut down, the impact of not having the 2020 Tony awards, as well as the psychological impact on unemployment. The results of the discussion showed that Broadway professionals are struggling with their finances as well as their mental health because Broadway is now a temporarily lifeless industry. For further research, it is recommended to compare the impact of Broadway and live theatre on New York’s economy to how little government funding the arts have received during the pandemic. Additionally, it would be interesting to compare Broadway’s impact on News York’s economy before and after the shutdown
Delivering Extinction
Living during a human extinction is something no one is prepared for. No one thought humans would last this long. Even the sun dies eventually. A child’s drawing with a dripping smile. Sun rays heating soil into dust, melting metals, and large pine trees would light like matches. Smoke would rise into the air blocking out everything but the fires taking over the once livable landscape of Earth. Then, it would be over. The sun would explode. Simple and quick, painless for the few who wouldn’t try to resist their demise. Too bad humans were a few million years early. ..
An Exploratory Study on Corporate Reputation Damage Due to Data Security Incidents
A persistent danger for many organizations is the prospect of a security breach impactful enough to harm one\u27s corporate reputation. Using Exploratory Data Analysis, this research utilized an event study to identify why such an incident triggers heterogeneous capital market outcomes. To provide a more solid foundation for this exploration, definitional clarity involving several socially constructed variables of interest was provided. Variables such as reputation, status, celebrity, legitimacy, stigma, brand, identity, and image were studied.Market response to a security breach, on average, resulted in a short-term adverse market reaction; however, variations occurred. A correlation between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ratings and capital market movement existed, explaining some of the disparate results. Furthermore, factors such as status, size, reliability, good governance, type of breach, industry, announcement timing also had an impact on the market response. Post-breach behavior such as advertising was not useful in reputation repair; however, R&D spending did help. Moreover, a predictive model supported additional investments in the ESG category of employee and governance to reduce the odds of being breached. This research discovered that the growth of intangible assets is altering strategies to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Past business-as-usual tactics primarily focused on tangible assets are no longer adequate. Research findings indicate that an inflection point in strategic management is upon us, requiring a socially-focused approach to reputation. To that end, business-for-society is today\u27s path to sustainable competitive advantage
Personality and Birth Order Based on Family Size
The relationship between birth order and personality has been widely studied, with varied results. There have been findings that have led psychologists to attempt to explain the dynamic involved. However, there has been an unfortunate lack of research into these elements within larger families. This study examined the effects of birth order on personality, particularly within larger family structures. One hundred and twenty-six adults completed a questionnaire regarding their birth position and family size, followed by the BFI-2, a measure of the Big Five traits of personality. It was hypothesized that number of siblings would mediate the relationship between birth order and personality. It was further hypothesized that family size would have a significant impact on personality. The results indicated an association between Firstborn status and elevated Conscientiousness. Family size did not appear to augment or offset the relationship. Sibship size was found to be a significant predictor of Agreeableness, Extraversion, Altruism, and Compliance. Finally, gender was found to effect personality, primarily in the areas of Conscientiousness and Self-Discipline/Order. This study will help further research into understanding sibling dynamics and the relationship between family size and personality
Sexual-Religious Compatibility, Internalized Homonegativity, and Depression and Suicidality in Lesbian. Gay, and Bisexual Individuals from Orthodox Jewish Backgrounds
Many lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals who are raised Orthodox Jewish experience intense internal distress due to conflicts between their sexual and religious identities. This population is also particularly vulnerable to mental health disparities such as depression and suicidality. Previous research suggests that sexual-religious conflict and internalized homonegativity are associated with poor mental health outcomes for other religious LGB groups; however, few studies have explored the roles of those factors on mental health outcomes for LGB Orthodox Jewish individuals. The present study hypothesized that sexual-religious compatibility, or the opposite of sexual-religious conflict, would be associated negatively with depressive symptoms and suicidality; that internalized homonegativity would mediate those relationships; and that centrality of Orthodox Jewish identity would moderate the direct and indirect associations of sexual-religious compatibility with depressive symptoms and suicidality. Participants identified as LGB or endorsed same-sex attraction, were either Orthodox Jewish or ex-Orthodox Jewish, were over 18 years of age, and lived in Israel or the U.S. A total of 146 individuals participated in the study and completed an online survey with the study measures. Results found that, contrary to hypotheses, depressive symptoms and suicidality were not significantly associated with sexual-religious compatibility, internalized homonegativity, or Orthodox Jewish centrality. However, Orthodox Jewish identity centrality was positively associated with sexual-religious compatibility and internalized homonegativity. Outness was also positively associated with sexual-religious compatibility and negatively associated with internalized homonegativity, depressive symptoms. and suicidality. Future research should gather more comprehensive data, include a greater representation of Hasidic and ultra-Orthodox Jewish individuals, and consider the role of family and peer support. Implications for practice include avoiding assumptions, helping clients find individualized responses to sexual-religious conflict, and helping clients increase their outness as they feel ready to do so
The Rise of Transnational Commercial Courts: The Astana International Financial Centre Court
The proliferation of international commercial courts aims to boost income from legal services and serve as a catalyst for newly found rules of law and thus attract investor confidence. The latter is the underlying purpose for the creation of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) and its Court. The Court’s legal framework is set out in the tradition of its competitors in the Gulf and similarly employs an impressive lineup of former senior judges from the United Kingdom. It is a unique experiment because it strives to create a balance between maintaining a judicial institution of the highest caliber while at the same time being subject to several limitations that jeopardize its independence. As companies in the AIFC continue to grow in size and assets, the AIFC Court will inevitably become one of the key dispute resolution institutions in Asia over the next decade
