Shawn Sahm Interview
This oral history interview was conducted by Gregory Peek as part of The Joe Anthony Project. Summary of the interview by Gregory Peek: "Shawn Sahm is a musician from San Antonio, Texas and is the eldest son of Doug Sahm (of Sir Douglas Quintet and Texas Tornadoes fame). Shawn talks about the influence of his father and musical upbringing. Talks about how Joe Anthony helped his father build up his musical reputation in San Antonio. Joe Anthony had the Harlem label which pressed one of Doug Sahm’s early record singles. Talks about how Joe Anthony helped to promote his local band from the early 1980s, Prezence. He remembers that Joe Anthony and KMAC-KISS played a lot of stuff on the radio you wouldn’t normally hear. Stuff that was darker and more disturbed in its tone and tenor. Comments on how Joe Anthony and Lou Roney had the freedom to make choices and played new music. Bands like Blue Oyster Cult, Tesla, Ted Nugent, and Metallica were all big in San Antonio because of KMAC-KISS and his band opened for several of them. San Antonio was an important stop on the hard rock and heavy-metal tour circuit. Concert promoters and record labels knew that if the band did well in San Antonio it likely could find an audience elsewhere. Talks about the change in music from hair metal and glam rock to grunge and alternative rock.

Interview with Mike Levine, 2019.
This oral history interview was conducted by Gregory Peek as part of The Joe Anthony Project. Summary of the interview by Gregory Peek: "Mike Levine is the bassist and keyboardist for the rock band Triumph. Formed in 1975, Triumph are a Canadian hard and progressive rock band from the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, Ontario. The band’s 1976 self-titled debut, particularly the final track “Blinding Light Show/Moonchild,” grew a passionate San Antonio fan base thanks to repeated play by DJs Joe Anthony and Lou Roney. The band’s first San Antonio tour date came in 1977 for a concert promoted by Joe Miller’s Jam Productions. Triumph filled in as headliner after a last-minute cancellation by Sammy Hagar. Mike Levine credits that show as a turning point for the band’s later success in the United States.

Summary of the interview by Gregory Peek: "Brian Kendall was a long time DJ and radio personality in San Antonio, Texas, working at 99.5 KISS FM in 104.5 KZEP FM.
