Effects of 7-Day Alkaline Supplementation on Performance Factors in a 1300m Maximal Cycling Effort
Alkaline supplementation has been shown in previous research to improve the body’s ability to buffer lactic acid during maximal exercise. PURPOSE: To determine the physiological and performance effects a 7-day alkaline supplementation period has on a maximal 1,300-m cycling effort compared to a placebo group. METHODS: The study consisted of three visits: an introductory visit, a visit before supplementation and a visit the day after supplementation was completed. The second and third visits consisted of a 10-minute warmup, a 1,300-m maximal cycling effort, and a 10-minute cool down. During this visit, lactate concentration (LC), heart rate (HR), oxygen intake (VO2), carbon dioxide output (VCO2), and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) were taken periodically during the all-out effort and cool down period; time to completion was also measured. Participants would then return 7 days later and perform the same procedures after fully completing the 7-day treatment. A t-test was performed to determine if there was a significant difference in means between the placebo and supplement groups for each variable. RESULTS: No statistical differences were observed between treatment groups (
Quarterback Salary in the National Football League
In this paper we investigate the quarterback position in the National Football League and the factors that influence the salary of a Quarterback. The quarterback position is widely regarded as one of the most important positions in the National Football League. In turn, quarterbacks are some of the most valued players in the league, and typically some of the highest paid players on their respective teams, and in the National Football League as a whole. This paper attempts to identify which specific explanatory variables have the most influence on the annual salary of quarterbacks in the National Football League. Using data from the 2023 season, collected from various sources, it is suggested that Age, Height, Draft Pick, Pro Bowls, Rating, Winning %, and % Salary Cap were all theoretically expected to be the most influential factors in explaining the salary of a quarterback in the National Football League. An econometric regression analysis was run using the variables to best estimate the impact each variable has on quarterbacks’ salaries. The results from the regression that was performed showed that only the variables of Age, Draft Pick, and Rating, were statistically significant, all of which at the 5% level. The results identified in this initial regression can be used to predict what type of contract specific quarterbacks in the National Football League are expected to receive based on the variables of Age, Draft Pick, and (quarterback) Rating
Capitol \u27H\u27 Horror: Pereptuations of Risk and Fear in Horror Movies
In this study, I dissect the messages symbolically communicated by horror movies through the eyes of their consumers, and thus how they reproduce systemic inequality through the ideals they perpetuate (Berger, P. L., & Luckmann, T., 1966). Through two rounds of interviews, this thesis argues that not only do horror movies have lasting impacts on watcher’s behavior and constructions of social realities, but that the very industry of horror films has lasting effects on the social construction of what is scary, who deserves to be afraid, and what we should consider entertainment
