Silica-coated magnetic palladium nanocatalyst for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling
A silica-coated magnetically separable Schiff-base palladium nanocatalyst was developed. Amorphous silica was used to encapsulate the magnetic Fe3O4 and an organic amine functionality was added to the silica surface. The amino group was treated with 1, 10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxaldehyde to produce a Schiff-base, which was then treated with palladium to produce the silica coated magnetic Schiff-base palladium nanocatalyst. The palladium nanocatalyst was fully characterized using several spectroscopic techniques. The HR-SEM image of silica coated Fe3O4 revealed a globular shape with a diameter of 145 nm, along with this the average palladium nanoparticle size was 3.5 ± 0.6 nm. The successful functionalization and the appearances of the palladium species as a magnetic catalyst was confirmed by FT-IR and XRD analysis. The palladium nanocatalyst was successfully applied for the construction of Csingle bondC bonds via Suzuki-Miyaura reaction. With a variety of organoboronic acids, the catalyst displayed great performance for electron-poor and electron-rich aryl halides, resulting in excellent yields of the corresponding cross-coupling products. The magnetic catalyst was retrieved from the reaction vial using an external strong magnet, and it was reused seven times without a significant drop in the production of the corresponding biaryl product.ye

The aim of the ETBLC is to disseminate Team-Based
Learning to educators and educational institutions across
Europe. We seek to create a continental TBL network made
up of local communities of practice, and provide resources
and development opportunities to every TBL practitioner
who engages with the ETBLC.
The ETBLC aim to achieve this vision by:
• Organising regional meetings such as masterclasses,
symposia and conferences to share TBL best practice,
coordinate networks and communities of practice, and
develop opportunities for collaboration and research.
• Promoting TBL at regional educational conferences to
disseminate TBL to new audiences.
• Developing resources to be hosted on a separate
members-only European webpage of the TBLC

Groupwork in Higher Education: a Practitioner's Guide
This practitioner guide is designed to offer an overall framework for successfully developing and facilitating group work
processes. It guides the novice practitioner through each stage of the process. It signposts associated challenges and
provides suggestions for helpful responses. It also includes a range of resources and tools that can be modified and
adapted to each practitioner context, where different disciplinary needs may require different approaches.
Groupwork is a complex process and unpredictable variables inevitably emerge. This guide is intended to assist the
effectiveness of groupwork processes and outcomes, while also acknowledging the need for adaptability and learning
in the specific context as it unfolds.
Sections 1 to 8 cover all the practical aspects of organising group work projects. Section 9 contains very useful tools,
templates and resources to support the group work process.
Facilitating successful group projects and processes requires patience, a commitment to being: organised, adaptable
and responsive to situations as they unfold. The rewards are extensive. Participants learn how to engage with others,
problem solve, work to deadlines, negotiate shared responsibility, manage conflict and experience the satisfaction of
achieving a shared outcome. In the process, participants therefore learn a great deal about themselves.

Size dependent egestion of polyester fibres in the Dublin Bay Prawn (Nephrops norvegicus)
Microplastics (MPs) are an extensive global contaminant in the marine environment, known to be ingested by marine organisms. The presence of MPs in the commercially important marine decapod crustacean Nephrops norvegicus (Dublin Bay Prawn) has been documented for the North-East Atlantic and the Mediterranean, however, uncertainties remain about retention times of MPs in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of this species. This study aims to investigate the retention times of polyester MP fibres of three sizes (3, 5, and 10 mm in length) and to determine whether the egestion of MP fibres is size and time dependent. Results suggest that MP fibres of different lengths are retained for different periods of time, with larger MP fibres being retained for longer periods (e.g., minimum 96 h for 10 mm fibres). The present study also assesses for the first time, the size dependent relationship of MP fibres under controlled conditions for N. norvegicus.ye

Summary of Teaching & Learning Context
I teach an online Research Methods module to approximately
35 Level 9 postgraduate students on the PG Diploma in
Financial Management and the PG Diploma in Quality
Management and Validation.
Student engagement can be difficult in the online teaching
and learning environment, especially within larger groups.
Often, within the group there are students who prefer not
to have their camera or microphone on, so the challenge for
me teaching online is to ensure that these students are still
actively participating in the activities. Because some of the
concepts I teach in this module can be difficult for students to
understand, I wanted to use a formative assessment tool that
would allow students to respond to questions anonymously,
which had the double advantage of allowing them the
opportunity to engage with the material and providing me
with an insight into their understanding of the concepts. I use
Vevox primarily to:

An awareness study of the EU Privacy and Electronic Communication (ePrivacy) directive (S.I. No. 336/211).
Background: In today’s increasingly information and digital age there is widespread use of search engines and social network sites. The use of this media form seems to be ubiquitous as it cuts across all age groups, social classes, and cultures. Online Behavioural Advertising (OBA) through the tracking of users has allowed for the development of user-targeted campaigns which traditional legal principles have struggled to come to terms with. It has fallen to the European Union and subsequently governmental organisations such as the Data Protection Commission (DPC) in Ireland to implement guidelines by which users must actively consent before cookies can be set up. The EU Privacy and
Electronic Communication (e-privacy) directive (EU Cookie Law), (S.I. No. 336/211) outlines the regulations by which consent must be given by consumers prior to placing cookies on their devices. Cookies are small text files that record internet users’ online activity. The regulators moved to update its guidance in 2020 having identified widespread failings of compliance during a sweep of websites in 2019. Given the widespread noncompliance as identified in the DPC cookie sweep and review of literature, there is, however, a lack of research into awareness of the directive by the various
stakeholders. AIM: The aim of this analysis is to measure the awareness and effectiveness on a regulatory, business, and consumer level of the EU Privacy and Electronic Communication (e-privacy) directive (EU Cookie Law), (S.I. No. 336/211) one year after the updated guidance from the DPC and how this may affect future policy. METHODS: A two-phased sequential mixed methods study across three key stakeholders was conducted consisting of an online survey administered to consumers and one-to-one interviews with representatives of the business community and with the Regulator who has responsibility for enforcing these regulations. RESULTS: The results identified a significant lack of awareness of the directive amongst the consumer and business cohorts with widespread noncompliance and limited enforcement by the Regulator and large-scale indifference by consumers to protect their online privacy despite their stated concerns for their online data. CONCLUSION: There is a very low level of awareness of the directive. The reasons for this range from the way the legislation is drafted, limited, and shared powers of enforcement by the DPC, deliberate non-compliance and largely missing the same enforcement powers as GDPR. Awareness campaigns, standardized CMP’s and automated auditing tools will all help increase awareness and effectiveness of the directive.n
Access to Justice Observatory Briefing Note
The EU Commission in their Communication on Improving Access to Justice 2020 committed to bringing forward access to
justice clauses in all new legislative proposals which might concern environmental matters. This was recognised as required
by international law and the EU Green Deal. Yet the Commission have consistently failed to do this in all proposals brought
forward under the Fit for 55 work package, leaving it to the EU Parliament MEPs to fight both the EU Commission and the
Council for inclusion of such provisions in each new legislative proposal. The ESR is no different, with the EU Commission
proposal being notably deficient in access to justice provisions, and the EP yet again being forced to remedy this situation
by proposing an access to justice amendment (among other amendments) on the 8th June 2022 (see Appendix to this
document). This legislation is now in trilogue, and the EP are fighting to keep the access to justice clause in the proposal.
Whether the Member States’ Ministers on the Council, and the EU Commission will also adopt a similar stance and move
into compliance with the EU’s international law obligations remains to be seen.

Green process of fuel production under porous y-Al2O3 catalyst: Study of activation and deactivation kinetic for MTD process
One of the methods of industrial dimethyl ether production is the catalytic dehydration of methanol. In this research work, methanol dehydration reactor has been modeled using continuous model and its results have been compared with experimental works and Voronoi pore network model. A 1D heterogeneous dispersed plug flow model was utilized to model an adiabatic fixed-bed reactor for the catalytic dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether. The mass and heat transfer equations are numerically solved for the reactor. The concentration of the reactant and products and also the temperature varies along the reactor, therefore the effectiveness factor would also change in the reactor. We used the the effectiveness factor that was simulated according to the diffusion and reaction in the catalyst pellet as a Voronoi pore network model. Sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the influence of T, P and weight hourly space velocity on performance of the chemical reactor. Acceptable agreement was reached between the measured and the model data. The results showed that the maximum reaction conversion was obtained about 90 % at WHSV = 10 h−1 and T = 560 K, while the inlet temperature (Tinlet) had a greater effect on methanol conversion. In addition, the effect of water in the feed on methanol conversion was quantitatively studied. Also, the deactivation kinetics of γ-Al2O3 heterogeneous-acidic catalyst in methanol to dimethyl ether dehydration process was studied using integral analysis method. Based on independent deactivation kinetics, a second order was found that accurately fitted the experimental conversion time data. The main reaction activation energies and catalyst deactivation energies were 143.1 and −102.1 kJ/mol, respectively.ye

not focus on a specific type, it is a general approach
