Machine learning simulation of pharmaceutical solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide: Prediction and experimental validation for busulfan drug
An artificial intelligence-based predictive model was developed using a support vector machine to investigate the solubility data of the drug Busulfan drug in supercritical carbon dioxide. The data for simulations were collected from literature. The model was trained and implemented in order to determine the correlation between the solubility values and the input parameters, namely, temperature and pressure. These parameters were used as the inputs as they are known to have a significant effect on the solubility of Busulfan in supercritical carbon dioxide. In the artificial intelligence model, a polynomial model with kernel function was applied to the data, and the model’s findings were compared with measured data for fitting. Good agreement was observed between the model’s outputs and the measured data with coefficient of determination greater than 0.99.ye

Summary of Teaching & Learning Context
Tablet devices foster the creation of asynchronous online
content with enhanced production values of superior sound,
video, lighting, positioning and resolution. They also provide a
gateway to the world of app technologies. These enhance the
learning experience for all students and empower academics
to broaden their use of technologies in their learning and
teaching design. The TUS Technology Kits, funded by SATLE
2, provide scope for TUS academics to achieve this.

Prior work at Australian Universities (UTS, WSU) saw uses
of iPad packs offering mobile technology capabilities
to academics with resulting content creating enhanced
engagement from students. Interactions between learning
designers and academics saw increased output of selfcreated
content by academics. Faculties including, health,
sport science, arts, social sciences and engineering
benefitted. It was also a way to connect to academics across different campuses, not unlike the geographical spread of

Deploying H5P Interactive Video To Displace F2F Learning In Blended Learning
Summary of Context
A Year 1 Business Mathematics module (n = 30-40) is being
re-configured for blended learning. Displacing some of the
face to face teaching with video resources (such as YouTube
clips) or narrated PowerPoint slides can provide for one way “transmission” of information/learning. H5P interactive
video on the other hand provides for the student to “interact”
with the video content. In the mathematics domain, a
20-minute-long video might contain 4 interaction points
where the student must “answer” a math problem which has
been “taught” in the foregoing video. Immediate formative
feedback is provided, with or without the opportunity to
re-attempt. As an activity in Moodle, individual and group
performance data allows the lecturer to address “muddy
points” as well as to identify “at risk” student
Feigning Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Through Health-Washing: Gambling Industry Conflicts of Interest in Health Service Provision and Training in Ireland
The gambling industry in Ireland, and elsewhere continues to grow. Evidence of the nature and extent of the gambling problem in Ireland has started to emerge. In order to better understand the machinations, tactics and strategies of the gambling industry it is instructive to review the activities of the global tobacco and alcohol industries. The gambling industry in Ireland feigns concern with corporate social responsibility (CSR) to camouflage its activities. Three particular aspects of the gambling industries’ CSR activities may be referred to as health-washing. These are the funding of gambling related research, the funding of counselling programs for individuals and their families impacted by problematic gambling, and the funding of gambling related third-level courses. This commentary focuses specifically on the last two of these which are funded by the Gambling Awareness Trust (GAT), a representative body of the Irish gambling industry.ye
Using Peer Evaluation For Assessment ‘As’ Learning

All Year 1 students in the Department of Computer and
Software Engineering take a module in semester 2 called
Communication for Engineering. One of the learning
outcomes of the module is that students should be able to
“reflect on their ability to communicate and collaborate with
others in their discipline”. To achieve the learning outcome,
students were tasked with working on a group project related
to their discipline. A team-based learning (TBL) approach
supported students in this task during weeks 1-7. The project
culminated in a presentation to the class in week 8
Modelling the transfer and accumulation of microplastics in a riverine freshwater food web
Microplastics are a pervasive pollutant of aquatic ecosystems and are reported to interact with a wide range of aquatic biota. The complexities of natural food webs means that the transfer and accumulation of microplastics is difficult to assess, and only a handful of studies have attempted to quantify trophic transfer in freshwater biota. Bioaccumulation models can provide a valuable tool to explore the transfer of microplastics along complex food webs, but such approaches have been rarely applied to freshwater ecosystems. Here, a food web accumulation model was implemented to assess the transfer, bioaccumulation and hence biomagnification potential of microplastics along a food web located in the River Slaney catchment in south-east Ireland. Literature feeding values and environmental field data were used to simulate microplastic uptake in benthic macroinvertebrates, with fish and Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra (Linnaeus, 1758)) comprising the higher trophic levels. Microplastic concentrations from the model were used to form a basis of comparison with empirical data for benthic macroinvertebrates and brown trout (Salmo trutta Linnaeus, 1758). Predicted concentrations were greatest in benthic macroinvertebrates and lowest in fish species such as European eel (Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus, 1758)) and three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus (Linnaeus, 1758)). Biota magnification factors for fish and L. lutra indicate that microplastic accumulation between the specific predator-prey interactions are not expected. To better inform models such as this, and therefore improve their accuracy, it is important to gain a better understanding of microplastic retention times in biota and the interaction between microplastics and resources utilised by benthic macroinvertebrates and fish, such as plant material, allochthonous detritus as well as terrestrial and aerial prey.ye
CFD Prediction of Turbulent Convective Heat Transfer in Additive Manufactured Rough Channels /

For the purpose of Open Access, the author has applied a CC BY public copyright licence to any Author Accepted Manuscript version arising from this submission.Due to the physical phenomena involved in Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) processes, the surface of the manufactured
product is naturally rough, significantly impacting the characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer over the
surface. Several studies have attempted to develop Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models to predict
friction factor and Nusselt number in rough channels and despite progress in roughness models, further
investigations are required to develop a numerically reliable method in the study of heat transfer over the highly
irregular roughness made by PBF. This study developed a high-fidelity numerical model based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) framework to investigate convective heat transfer over rough surfaces with
different roughness heights and topology. Several models based on roughness extensions of RANS were compared
with the resolving-roughness approach proposed in this study. In comparison with experimental results, the
predictions of this approach broadly match the of the velocity profile for a wide range of roughness heights. The
proposed approach predicted the expected downward shift in both the velocity and temperature profiles due to
roughness, and the variations of these profiles for different roughness topologies.ye
Facets of social innovation in higher education
Emphasis on social engagement and innovation for the higher education sector is a priority, despite the various challenges that have arisen as result of Covid-19, for third level providers. It is a conversation that continues to evolve of how the higher education providers can prepare students for global citizenship and societal innovation. There are specific concerns regarding best practice and the contribution of higher education to teaching, research and ultimately public policy. Universities are embedded in teaching and research whereby the onus is to engage collaboratively with outside organisations to develop competences and create products for greater use by society. This chapter aims to explore how the higher education institutions can contribute to transforming teaching and research so that the student, and ultimately each academic community member, experiences the full value of contributing to a successful society, reflecting on sustainable partnerships, engagement, whilst reflecting the whole idea of societal innovation. Its ambition is to define spheres of influence for enhancing social innovation in higher education
D5.4. Annual report on the Implementation of the Open Science Skills Training Workshop Programmes. 1st Report
The "Workshop on Open Access" and the "Workshop on FAIR Data" were the first online
workshops (pilot workshops) held in the framework of the RUN-EU PLUS Workpackage 5 on 1
and 2 June 2022 (both 13h00 – 17h00 CET) on the topic of Open Science. The events were
hosted by NHL Stenden, the Netherlands, through MS Teams.
180 registrations were recorded for the first afternoon (Open Access). 169 people registered
for the second afternoon (FAIR Data). 90 Certificates of Attendance were issued for the
Workshop on Open Access and 92 Certificates of Attendance for the Workshop on FAIR Data.
In total, 184 people were present during the workshops.
RUN-EU PLUS is a strategy integrated into the Regional European Network European University
(RUN-EU) which was established in 2020. This European University aims to develop and
promote progress in the respective regions. Sustainability, inclusion and multiculturalism are
core values. It aims to ensure sustainable economic, social, cultural and environmental
progress by providing students, researchers and academics with green, digital and inclusive
skills.
RUN-EU consists of seven higher education institutions in Portugal, Ireland, Finland, Hungary,
the Netherlands and Austria. The network comprises 76,500 students, 8,000 staff, fifty-three
faculties and ninety-seven research centres and groups.
RUN-EU is an Erasmus + funded project which is complemented by the RUN-EU PLUS project,
funded through the EU Horizon 2020 programme, which commenced in October 2022. ‘PLUS’
stands for Professional Research Programmes for Business and Society. This project forms an
integrated long-term strategy to strengthen and further develop cooperation between science
and business in the areas of research and innovation
Death cafés as a strategy to foster compassionate communities: Contributions for death and grief literacy
The death-positive movement, the most recent manifestation of the death awareness movement, contends that modern society is suffering from a “death taboo” and that people should talk more openly about death (Koksvik and Richards, 2021). This movement is striving to shift the dialogue about (and place of) death and dying into community spaces (Breen, 2020).
People are dying at older ages and over longer periods of time, as a result of chronic disease trajectories and advances in medical interventions, generating new demographic, and epidemiological trends. In many circumstances, death and dying processes are over-medicalized due to aggressive treatments and practices in hospitals and residential eldercare facilities (Becker et al., 2014). Most deaths happen within such institutions, leaving communities frequently “in the dark” regarding processes of care and illness at the end of life (Breen, 2020). There is a widespread belief that community-based solutions in palliative care and support for the bereaved are needed (Richards et al., 2020). However, as argued by Park et al. (2022), scant attention has been given to community-level interventions for death, dying and grief, or to the public's readiness to fully participate in these interventions.yesOpinion
