PERSPECTIVES ON THE SLOVEN IAN REPUBLIC OF YUGOSLAVIA
I would like to explore with you the Socialist Republic of Slovenia, the northernmost province of Yugoslavia. In developing a perspective on Slovenia, I will emphasize the cultural and economic distinctiveness of the region in order to distinguish this nation from the rest of the Yugoslav state. Yugoslavia is a relatively new country in Europe, being established in 1918 following the World War I disintegration of the extensive Habsburg and Ottoman Empires. At first the young state called itself the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in recognition of the separate identities of its three major ethnic groups. Stressing the unity of the country, the name was changed to Yugoslavia, which means south Slavs, in 1929. The capital of the state remained at Belgrade, which is in Serbia. Until 1941, the country was governed as a constitutional monarchy with a Serbian royalty. The other nations, such as the Bosnians, Croatians, Macedonians, Montenegrins and Siovenians, were not equal partners in this arrangement. Defining Space with Bamboo
Defining Space with Bamboo explores the architectural potential of bamboo in the subtropical climate of the United States—specifically challenging the preconception of bamboo as merely an invasive species. While it’s true that bamboo is non-native and fast-spreading, its presence is already well-established across the region. This project asks: rather than resisting it, what if we embraced bamboo as a rapidly renewable, structurally versatile construction material?
Set along the Atlanta BeltLine, the project comprises three spatial installations—small, medium, and large—each designed to examine how bamboo can actively define space through qualities of leisure, activity, and discovery. The small pavilion employs a rectilinear bundled column system to establish a place of rest. The medium structure explores the expressive potential of bent bundled beams, inviting interaction. The large pavilion tests the structural capabilities of bamboo trusses, creating an expansive space that celebrates the material’s strength.
Through tectonic experimentation and site-specific engagement, Defining Space with Bamboo repositions bamboo not as an ecological threat, but as an opportunity to craft meaningful, resilient architecture rooted in place

W ith this issue Gamma Theta Upsilon initiates the publication of its periodical, Th e Geographical Bulletin. It is with great anticipation that we set forth on this venture. Our aim is to supply an outlet for undergraduate and graduate students who normally do not have publication avenues easily accessible. We intend to give the highest priority to student publications for we feel they deserve space, and we further feel that they have things to offer which will be of value to the profession of geography. It is the editorial policy of The Geographical Bulletin to publish those things which would span the entire spectrum of geographic research . However, this issue represents, in a sense, a special issue with one or two types of papers that normally will not appear in subsequent issues. Reconfiguring a person’s relationship with their existence in Bushwick, NY, sits at the intersection of the wider well-being of humans, which includes intrinsic elements and more social interaction. This looks like repurposing buildings to highlight Bushwick’s unique blend of historical heritage, artistic energy, and communal spirit, while introducing more spaces for reflection and connection to nature to increase mental, physical well-being, and sense of community.

The Impact of Flipped Classroom With Active Learning Model of Instruction in Teaching Stoichiometry in Chemistry Among Black and Brown Students
Students pursuing professions in STEM sometimes encounter difficulties in General Chemistry, a semester-long foundational subject. A fundamental subject in this course is stoichiometry, which pertains to the mathematical connections between elements and compounds in chemical processes. This fundamental notion is essential for comprehending advanced chemistry subjects, although it may provide challenges for students because of its dependence on algorithms and prior knowledge. Research has predominantly concentrated on the conceptualization of stoichiometry through models endorsed by educators, rather than on student involvement. This project sought to investigate the interactions of Black and Brown students with essential stoichiometry ideas in General Chemistry using an active flipped classroom style utilizing PhET simulations.
This method considers the cultural significance of the pupils and the impact of motivation on their academic results. The results indicated a substantial disparity in the academic performance of students participating in the active flipped classroom teaching technique in stoichiometry chemistry compared to those who were not involved. Moreover, students who participated in the Active Flipped Classroom technique showed a significant eagerness to share their views on the activities upon returning to class the following day. The study revealed that students display emotional involvement, social engagement, cognitive engagement, and successful teamwork, indicating passion for learning, sustained concentration, connection-making, and application of existing information.

Developing Peptide Based Inhibitors Targeting Amyloid Beta for Alzheimer\u27s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is defined as a progressive neurological disorder that has adverse effects on one’s cognitive function over time. Currently identified as the prevalent antecedent of dementia, this disease is ranked seventh in the leading causes of death by the CDC. Since its discovery in 1906, there’s been an 145% increase in deaths observed by researchers. Unfortunately, scientists have been unsuccessful in both curing and eradicating the diseases’ harsh symptoms. Amyloid-Beta (Ab) is a protein who accumulates into neurofibrillary tangles and extracellular plaques when sliced by b- and g- secretases. It is placed at the forefront as the cause of AD. Fortunately, the inhibition of Ab has been identified as a promising avenue in the fight for therapeutics. In this research, various peptides are synthesized and investigated to analyze their impact on binding affinity to Ab via liquid chromatography- mass spectrometry (LC-MS) selected ion monitoring (SIM) assays. The aim of this project is to develop peptide-based inhibitors by modifying previously tested peptide sequences that were successful in targeting and inhibiting Ab. Kinetic dissociation constant (Kd) is the factor used to measure the binding affinity between Ab and successfully synthesized peptides. Unbiased molecular docking was used to predict and support the exhibited binding strength and interactions of synthesized peptides. Linear peptides 1 through 4 (LP-1 to -4) and cyclic peptide 1 (CP-1) was synthesized, characterized, and analyzed. LP-1 presented the strongest binding affinity of all peptides with a Kd value of 1.73 nM, followed by LP-3 with a Kd value at 19.69 nM, and LP-4 at 24.90 nM. CP-1 displayed a weaker binding in comparison to its linear counterpart at 49.12 nM, and LP-2 displayed the weakest binding interactions of all peptides at 50.90 nM. This data identified viable peptides for further research toward Ab inhibition, thus providing new avenues to aid in the fight against AD
