Taking this into consideration, this project aims to evaluate the user experience of these apps and how one in particular can be improved. In doing so, our group hopes to create a more user-friendly experience that can make public transportation easier and more reliable for everyone

    Immersive learning experiences have been proposed to offer rich immersion and interaction, effectively addressing the distractions and low engagement commonly found in typical online learning environments. Research in neuroscience and psychology suggests that motor skills, such as note-taking, help students improve their learning by enhancing cognitive abilities and decision-making, ultimately leading to better performance. This study aims to investigate the impact of motor skills, specifically note-taking with a physical VR stylus, on learning experiences, outcomes, and retention in our VR classroom environment

    DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE DOMESTICATION OF ANIMALS: THE CASE OF THE MUSK OX AND THE ELAND

    In recent years a determined effort has been made to domesticate new animals with most attention focusing on the eland, which is native to the arid and semi-arid areas of southern and eastern Africa, and the musk ox of arctic North America.1 The underlying purpose of these efforts is to develop lands that are currently either poorly used or not used at all. The natural habitats of the musk ox and the eland are areas plagued by cold temperatures or aridity. These regions have resisted man\u27s attempts at agriculture. Even grazing of domestic livestock has been difficult because of harsh temperatures, lack of suitable vegetation, lack of water, or because of disease. The proponents of domestication argue that a native, wild, animal is naturally adapted to these harsh environments and can survive on the natural vegetation. Thus, it is reasoned that domestication of such animals can help establish some sort of agricultural endeavor in these under-used areas that would otherwise be impossible. The proponents of domestication of such animals are enthusiastic, however, several problems may limit the success of newly domesticated animals. The purpose of this paper is to, first, review the rationale behind attempts to domesticate the musk ox and the eland, and, secondly, to discuss some important problems that should be considered before jumping on the domestication bandwago

    RESIDENTIAL SUBDIVISIONS: UNDERLYING THEMES AND ASSOCIATED FORMS

    Land is one of the most important resources available to man. Man\u27s activities take place upon the land and his buildings are, of necessity, firmly rooted in the ground. The way in which these buildings are arranged has changed through time in response to the changing aspirations of society. Perhaps the most basic use of the land is residential. We spend most of our time at home and the environment in which we dwell influences our performance in all phases of life. In urban situations the means of utilizing the land resource is the process of land subdivision. The term land subdivision includes any breaking up of one parcel of land into two or more lots but for present purposes subdivision will be used to mean what it has come to mean to most people, that is the large scale land division into lots solely for residential purposes, including streets, sewers, and all other necessary utilities. The designation and use of a large tract of land for homes involves complex decisions involving many factors. The objectives of this paper are to define these factors, and to relate them historically to the evolution of land subdivision design and practices

    Using Gamification to Teach Cybersecurity in a Social Science Course: An Experience Paper

    Meta-reviews of gamification suggest that gamifying course instruction can positively impact learners\u27 behaviors and attitudes, leading to improved learning outcomes. However, there is a lack of literature relaying concrete experiences with developing and deploying gamified content. This experience paper contributes to filling that gap by describing the deployment of gamified instruction to students enrolled in a mid-level university social science course. These experiences are organized around four more or less chronological questions the project team needed to answer: (1) why gamify – or what is the rationale for undertaking such an endeavor, (2) what content should be gamified, (3) what design should the gamified content take, and (4) what technologies should be used to develop and deploy the content? We conclude by discussing the importance of grounding gamification in theory and the utility of the hub and spoke design framework used by the project team

    The Language of Space: Rhetorical Insights into Academic Library Design and Redesign

    Spaces are arguably an academic library’s most important physical resource. As more coursework and published materials move online, students are seeking out academic libraries for where they can study and be successful, not only for what concrete resources the library can offer them. With that knowledge in mind, academic librarians are called to, as Spencer & Watstein (2017) write, “understand and appreciate that spaces not only inspire creativity, reflection, exploration and innovation but also impact learning” (p. 389). It is with this thought in mind that a couple of academic library professionals in southeast Georgia sought to research what our students thought of our spaces and how the spaces spoke to them after a first floor redesign that sought to create a more open and welcoming environment for patrons. This paper will discuss the administration of a short research survey on students’ perceptions of library spaces, and how this can be applied to larger, more long-term efforts to create engaging and welcoming spaces for students in the academic library

    Smart Transportation Solution for GA Parents

    Traffic congestion, specifically stop-and-go traffic, is one of the main reasons for the increased density of particulate matter (ex: PM 2.5 and PM 10, a key contributor to respiratory problems in adults and kids). Pick-up and drop-off events in K-12 schools, specifically elementary and middle schools, increase stop-and-go traffic, which eventually increases pollution significantly. This research aims to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution during school drop-off and pick-up times. The first phase of the project focuses on modeling existing traffic conditions in an elementary school. We will be using video analytics software to process video data collected from the school site. We will also utilize the GDOT website to collect additional data, such as the average speed of the roadways. Using this data, Synchro software will be used to develop existing traffic conditions. In addition, we will also do a survey on parents to understand their perspective on various issues such as wait times and transportation modes. Based on this, we will proceed to the second phase, in which we will identify potential solutions to optimize traffic and queues during the pick-up and drop-off processes. We would like to create an application for parents and guardians to optimize school pickup and drop-off processes with this data. Through this research, we hope to gain an understanding about traffic and pollution issues around schools and how we can utilize technology to optimize health and efficiency
