Assessing Information Literacy in a Living Learning Community: An Academic Library Case Study
Get PDFAssessment of information literacy efforts can impact college students’ success and retention. Library outreach and partnerships with teaching faculty, especially those targeted towards first-year students, are important. Library involvement with High Impact Practices (HIPs) including Living Learning Com-munities provide librarians with an assessment-rich environment to connect information literacy with student success and retention. This case study sought to assess the impact of information literacy library instruction on first-year Living Learning Community (LLC) Criminology students and asked the follow-ing question: Are the general information literacy class and the Special Collections information literacy class beneficial to Criminology LLC students? The authors learned that students’ comfort, awareness, and knowledge of library services increased from the pre- to post-surveys. Most pre- and post-responses showed an increase in knowledge gained during the general library and Special Collections library infor-mation literacy sessions
LINK - A New Interface: Bridging Social Isolation Through Immersive Discovery
Get PDFLink: A New Interface explores how public spaces—historically designed to encourage social interaction—have declined in vibrancy due to shifting behaviors, remote work, and the long-term effects of the Covid pandemic. Modern digitalization, while offering convenience, has also contributed to decreased face-to-face engagement, reduced attention spans, and increased social isolation. This thesis proposes a revitalization of public social spaces by reimagining digitalization not as a distraction, but as a tool to foster immersive, multisensory experiences that reconnect people. The project focuses on bridging generational divides, nurturing meaningful social interactions, and creating inclusive spaces that support intergenerational engagement. The methodology introduces a new architectural interface that unites the physical (built) environment with the social (natural) environment through immersive digital technologies. By analyzing human behaviors within both realms, the research develops insights for crafting responsive, human-centered environments. These environments leverage smart, data-driven systems to enhance spatial quality and social functionality. Inspired by the work of Juhani Pallasmaa, the design approach emphasizes full sensory engagement over purely visual experiences, supporting richer, more connected environments. Curvilinear forms and thoughtful spatial organization are used to create inviting, intuitive, and natural public spaces that stimulate interaction. TOWARD AN ALUMNI CHAPTER OF GAMMA THETA UPSILON
Get PDFGamma Theta Upsilon is embarking on another venture to increase its service to the geographic community by establishing an alumni membership which will allow initiates to maintain an active identification with Gamma Theta Upsilon after they leave an active college chapter. Hopefully it will encourage our thousands of past initiates who are still interested in Geography to resume participation in Gamma Theta Upsilon activities. The alumni chapter is envisioned as a means of supporting an initiate\u27s lifetime interest in Geography. It will allow the national organization to provide more services to the members, such as an expanded Gamma Theta Upsi Ion program at geographical meetings, an expanded Geographical Bulletin as the editor receives more contributions from members, and possibly formation of active alumni chapters in areas of concentration of geographical employment like Chicago, St. Louis and Washington. They would be able to be active in Gamma Theta Upsilon voting and business without needing a current campus chapter affiliation. A fuller connection with Gamma Theta Upsilon may also stimulate the installation of additional campus chapters

Get PDFThe OwlSat project, conducted by senior aerospace engineering students at Kennesaw State University, represents the university’s inaugural entry into the 2025 CanSat Competition. The mission objective was to design, build, and validate a CanSat capable of controlled deployment from a rocket, stable descent via an autogyro system, real-time telemetry transmission, and onboard video recording, while meeting strict mechanical, structural, and operational requirements.
A comprehensive design methodology was employed, incorporating trade studies, computational simulations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and iterative prototyping. Key innovations include a foldable blade autogyro system based on the Selig S1223 airfoil, a robust canister release mechanism, and a modular internal baffle architecture for payload integration. The final design achieved a stable 5 m/s descent rate, successful separation at 75% apogee altitude, continuous telemetry at 1 Hz, and compliance with structural survivability standards of 15 G vibration and 30 G shock.
Critical components, including the autogyro deployment hinge, counterweight stabilization system, and release mechanisms, were validated through ground-based testing and simulations, confirming their functionality under mission-like conditions. Full payload integration, ground station development, and final system refinements are underway to ensure launch readiness.
This project not only fulfills competition requirements but also establishes a strong foundation for future aerospace initiatives at KSU, advancing hands-on aerospace education and interdisciplinary collaboration. This case study of Houston County, Minnesota will illustrate the use of these records to investigate initial land evaluations: Dates of alienation can reveal the precise land survey plots which were selected for purchase at a given time and those that were passed over until later (Map 1). This chronology of claims indicates the areas the initial investigators considered most valuable. Houston County was opened in August, 1854 as part of the Root River Land District, with the land office located in Brownsville:. Get PDFWith the envisioning of this project, music will solidify its attachment to the world of beer through the notion of design. Many breweries, bars, night clubs, and taphouses exist. However, the difference between this project and many of its sister markets, is the direct fusion between the ideology behind music, beverage, and emotion. The projects’ ability to create a cultural hub impacting its community will be what sets the venue apart from any of its kind.
If the project creates this center for experience, then by default, the community around the hub will become part of a sub-culture surrounded by the idea of emotion through music. The project will foster its surrounding culture into a music scene dedicated to creating a venue with personality. That personality will be driven by the nature of its design.
To achieve this personality, the project will focus on 3 fundamental foci to create a rich cultural and community enhanced interaction. These three matters are: culture, ecology, and emotion. Centering the project around local music traditions within the site’s culture will not only attract artists but also engage the community through a strong sense of belonging and shared identity. As the former home of the acclaimed Shaky Knees music festival, the site carries a rich legacy of cultural vibrancy making it the perfect foundation for a musical revival, one that echoes the Ghost of Shakey Knees.
Using key ecological aspects extracted from the brewing process, a biophilic design approach will enhance the venue’s atmosphere while promoting well-being and a strong connection to nature. Intentional integration of greenery as well as thoughtful landscaping create a scripted environment which enriches the overall experience of the patron.
Finally, by engaging the innate emotional responses people feel as they move through architecture, this project promises to create meaningful spaces that evoke a comfortable and lasting sensory impression. Crafting spaces that create these feelings, patrons and performers alike will forge deep connections within the venue, elevating it from a mere business to a cultural landmark.
Ultimately, this project aims to create a dynamic hub that not only showcases music but also enriches lives by fostering an ongoing dialogue between architecture, live music, and the emotional experiences they generate
