筆者は、和道流空手の修行時に留意すべき点を考察し、「和やかな気持ち」、「脱力による、タメのない敏捷性」、「身体の中心の感覚」の３つの極意を明らかにした「『空手術之研究』から読み解く和道流空手３つの極意」を2010年に執筆した。本稿は、それに続き、空手の形の一つである「ナイハンチ」に関し、新たな気付きを３つの極意に沿って考察し、大塚氏が本部朝基氏のナイハンチに創意を加えた点を明らかにすることで、難解とされる和道流空手の疑問点を解消し、和道流空手技術の継承と発展に寄与することを目的とするものである。departmental bulletin pape

A Preliminary Study of the Impact of a Five-month Study Abroad Program: An Integration of Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches
Get PDFExisting research and individual personal experiences clearly show that a study abroad experience has a tremendous impact on learners’ target language proficiency and personal growth. On the other hand, more research will be required to gain a better understanding of the “process” of learners’ internal changes during a study abroad program. The present study focuses on a five-month study abroad program for English majors at a women’s university in Japan. A total of more than 100 participants studied at two universities in California, USA, in the same period and were required to write a personal digital report every week. In order to avoid compiling a subjective collection of learners’ monologues or presenting a mere overall tendency that masks individual learners’ variation, the data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Integrating the two research methodologies is crucial in illustrating learners’ changing perspectives of learning English and adjusting to American culture. In the article, learners’ changing processes during a study abroad program will be reported by making comparisons of the data obtained at the two campuses and at different times, along with some illustrative individual cases.departmental bulletin pape
On the Correlation between Hydration of the Stratum Corneum and the Nutritional Status of Dialysis Patients
Get PDFStratum corneum (SC) prevents evaporation of internal moisture and maintains dermal flexibility and fluidity. Malnutrition is known to decrease SC hydration, but involvement of nutritional status in SC hydration of dialysis patients is unclear. In this study, we examined the association between SC hydration and nutritional status on dialysis patients. We studied 16 control subjects and 81 dialysis patients to examine SC hydration of the neck, upper arm and lower leg. In the 81 patients, we measured serum albumin (Alb), transferrin, geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and normalized protein catabolic rate (nPCR). We then classified the dialysis patients into a 21-patients group, with both Alb ? 3.6 g/dl and nPCR ? 0.9 g/kg/ day, and a 60-patients group with either Alb ＜3.6 g/dl or nPCR ＜0.9 g/kg/day. SC hydration in the lower leg and the Alb value in the 81 patients were significantly lower than those in the control subjects. SC hydration in the upper arm and lower leg and the values of transferrin and GNRI in the 60-patients group were significantly lower than those in the 21-patients group. This study demonstrates for the first time that nutritional status is correlated with maintenance of SC hydration on dialysis patients.departmental bulletin pape

A Study of the Role of School Nurses
Get PDFWe examined the role of school nurses from four aspects, namely, “school health”, “children’s health issues”, “school nurses’ expertise”, and “teacher training”.
We established that if children’s health issues change, the role of school nurses, whose job consists of being “in charge of school nursing”, requires a paradigm shift toward problem resolution. However, regardless how the times change, and no matter how children’s health issues change, the professional duties of school nurses inherit the “immutability” that has not changed since the beginning of school education. With that at the foundation, school nurses have tackled health issues of the respective periods in line with the “trends” and have been “in charge of school nursing”, which is the true role of “yogo”.
Nowadays, in an era when various types of occupations are involved in school education, it is necessary to consider school nursing by bringing the question, “What is role of school nurses who are irreplaceable by others?”, back to the starting point of the job, while leveraging professional duties, that is, being “in charge of school nursing”, and expertise. In summarizing the subjects pertaining to school nurses, namely, changes in children’s health issues as well as in the professional duties of school nursing, and the concept of yogo, professionals are to find their own objects and apply their energy, while having confidence in practice. Furthermore, it is said that professionals are continuously deepening. Compared to other professionals, where many of the issues dealt with are based on scientific knowledge and technical certainty, the work of school nurses is a series of uncertainties. However, it can be said that learning and practice of seeing the child's body, which is a characteristic of the school nurse, raises the specialty and enhances the professionalism.departmental bulletin pape
