CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PRACTICES: THE EXAMPLES OF LATVIA AND UKRAINE
Get PDFCorporate social responsibility (CSR) as a good business practice and an organized movement develops and gains increasing support not only among entrepreneurs and businesspersons but also among consumers choosing goods and services from reputable enterprises that implement generally accepted business ethics in their daily operation. The problem of CSR has become urgent in the context of ensuring economic and sustainable business development. Increasing attention is paid to raising the competitiveness and efficiency of business through the principles of CSR. The latest research on reputation and CSR in Latvia shows that there are few entrepreneurs, national institutions and members of the public in Latvia who understand the basics of CSR and support the manifestations thereof. In Ukraine, CSR practices of companies are also at the initial stage of their development, they are carried out epidemically, and only large companies have sustainable development strategies and publish non-financial reports. The aim of the research is to assess CSR practices in Ukraine and Latvia. General scientific research methods were used in the given research, namely: the monographic and descriptive methods and comparative analysis. The results of the research revealed that socially responsible entrepreneurship related to the principles of sustainable development, i.e. meeting current needs without compromising the needs of future generations. Sustainable development is characterized by three interrelated dimensions: environmental, economic and social, through which socially responsible entrepreneurship could be assessed
SUSTAINABLE, SMART AND RESPONSIBLE NATURE PARK TOURISM
Get PDFThe one of the largest nature parks in Latvia is Nature Park “Piejūra”. It is a very complicated area due to its valuable and sensitive coastal habitats. On the one hand, it is a territory with rich biodiversity, and on the other hand it is an area actively used by visitors and tourists due to its location close to the capital of Latvia. Therefore, implementation of sustainable nature protection, conservation and management activities is particularly important. However, as the area is widely visited, there is public resistance to the implementation of management activities. The aim of the research is to identify the level of awareness and attitude of Nature Park visitors in respect of the nature conservation, protection and management activities. To achieve the aim of the research, quantitative research methods have been used. The data allows us to conclude that the understanding of the necessary nature management and protection activities has become deeper in the society. The public understands the established restrictions and considers that there is no necessity to strengthen the restrictions, but only to promote their observance. The study confirms that the attitude towards and understanding of the nature conservation activities changes in the society if there is enough information provided and the necessity for the activities is explained

No full textThe aim of the work is a legal risk assessment to identify subjects of civil relations in order to implement commercial transactions safely using a digital profile. The paper attempts to assess the digital transformation of civil relations and the implementation of legal regulators for the protection and security of the subjects’ digital profile of. The aspects of “digital profile’s” definition interpretation as well the legal status separate signs for citizens and business entities of the notification procedure, differentiation of both rights to dispose and to use are reflected. The law enforcement practice of civil transactions in the course of digital resources’ turnover, as well as the attraction and imposition of administrative penalties are proposed, and a number of conflicts is identified due to the latency of illegal actions, the lack of digital competent human rights bodies and digital investigative tools
THE CHALLENGES OF DISTANCE LEARNING DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: THE CONTEXT OF LITHUANIAN PRE-SCHOOL TEACHERS\u27 OPINIONS
Get PDFThe COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the education system. Since Lithuania has declared the state-level emergency in February 2020, imposed by quarantine, the educational process was organized in a distance mode. Distance learning, namely, was a platform that pre-schools used to meet the learning needs of children. The aim of this article is to review pre-school teachers’ opinions about the challenges of distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The article describes the situation in Lithuanian pre-schools using distance learning during the lockdown. The authors analyse the main problems that pedagogues have faced with - lack of competence in the use of IT, poor support from management, inadequate material base, lack of time and teachers’ self-confidence, the low involvement of families.
SOCIAL SCIENCES’ TRANSFORMATION IN LIGHT OF COVID-19
Get PDFTransformations in social sciences accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic remain under-explored. The aim of the article is to analyse scientific literature on social sciences’ transformation in light of COVID-19 underpinning the elaboration of implications for teaching a Research Methodology course to the higher education students. The present research work made use of theoretical and empirical methods. The exploratory study was of qualitative nature. The study carried out in April 2021 was based on the analysis of scientific publications selected from the Web of Science and google search by indicating the key words “COVID-19” and “Social sciences’ transformation”. The conclusion is drawn that social sciences’ transformation to the remote conduct is “a new normal” in the conditions of uncertainty. Virtual fieldwork is proposed to be a new qualitative method in social sciences’ research as some populations live mostly in digital environments. Another conclusion is that there is a need for a balance, when composing the empirical study’s sample, between respondents in the digitally divided populations, namely inclusions of both groups’ - digital and non-digital - respondents. Implications for teaching a Research Methodology course to the higher education students are presented. Research limitations are identified. Directions of further research are proposed

ESTONIAN YOUTH WORK EXPERTS PROFESSIONAL GROWTH: CASES STUDY
Get PDFEstonian youth work (YW) has been in development almost 30 years. In the last more than 15 years the same trends have been observed in the studies in terms of professional development: the shortage of employees with professional education and workers high mobility. At the same time, the progressive decisions and regulations made in Estonia, on the field of European YW are exemplary. Thus, the prerequisites for professional YW were created and experts in the field have also developed.The aim of research was to give an overview of the stories of becoming as experts. Semi-structured interviews were compiled in 2019. Special focus was on the professional growth in the content of life story. The study revealed both – randomness entry into YW, but various supporting external aspects (active school life, supportive community, camps). However, the most important were the personal factors - motivation, consistency, entrepreneurship, courage, YW studies, participation in (foreign) projects, mission. Professional knowledge and skills supported mostly the development from a novice specialist into an advanced employee and expert. Commitment, autonomy were the main work-load impact factors. The desire to work with young people has brought some retired youth workers back to YW. Horizontal career was limited but usual.
GAMIFICATION IN TEACHING THEORETICAL LINGUISTIC DISCIPLINES
Get PDFGamification in the learning process is a well-known and, at the same time, an entirely new teaching tool. Today, a number of gaming techniques can be attributed not only in the real classroom, but also in the virtual learning environment. In both cases, games have significant motivating potential. On the other hand, prospects for the modern world development require getting both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and games provide all the opportunities for getting them.Traditional team games, as well as contests between individuals, are widely used in learning process at universities Moreover, there are various types of up-to-date platforms for creating and introducing online games such as Kahoot!, Quizlet, Plickers, Classcraft, etc. However, it should be noted that all the listed platforms and techniques are used primarily in teaching practical disciplines (e.g. Practical English) while for theoretical courses, traditional teaching methods and teacher-centered approaches continue to prevail. We believe that various techniques of gamification (both real and virtual) will increase the level of students’ motivation while studying theoretical courses. Thus, such disciplines as Research Techniques in Linguistics, is a very complicated course for the 3rd year BA students; so in order to motivate them, different games were introduced. In our research, we used a questionnaire aimed at finding out how the introduction of games enhances students’ motivation to study this discipline.Also, the experiment which lasted for 1 semester with the students whose major is "Foreign Philology", showed that the application of different games a) motivated students and activated their schemata; b) facilitate mastering complicated theoretical concepts; so gamification should be considered as an effective tool in teaching theoretical disciplines.
EDUCATIONAL WORK WITH GIFTED CHILDREN THROUGH INTERNET IN CHINA (ON THE EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATIVELY GIFTED CHILDREN)
Get PDFChinese pedagogical science always had rather complex relationship with the concept of «giftedness» as a social and educational reality because only the person\u27s social success (good position, social and professional demand, maximum compliance with the social ideal of society) was seen as the sign of the person\u27s giftedness in traditional Chinese pedagogy. Online education always considered to be a supporting form of education service in China or a variant of education service providing for special categories of children (hard-to-reach children, children with special physical and educational needs, those who are in difficult life situations: imprisoned, in hospital etc). However the 2020 pandemic situation faced the whole world and China in particular with the need to reconsider views as to the place of distance education. All pedagogical and educational work in the world has been moved online and work with gifted children is of no exception. The article aims to present the Chinese experience of online work with gifted children (especially the communicatively gifted ones) by the means of special education platforms and programs. To write the article, a complex of theoretical and empirical research methods was used (аbstraction method, analysis of pedagogical literature, induction and deduction, observation etc.)
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE FOR EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN FROM ETHNIC MINORITY: CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES
Get PDFThe empowerment of women and the improvement of their political, social, economic and health status is a highly important and is one of the Global Sustainable Goals. Gender Equality index 2020 of EU-28 is 67.9, slowly increasing (European Institute for Gender Equality, 2021). Although there are some researches related to women empowerment and economic development (Siba, 2019, Hemalatha, 2020, Doss, Malapit, & Comstock, 2020, etc.) or social entrepreneurship (Biggeri, Testi, Bellucci, During, & Persson, 2018; Briar-Lawson, Miesing, & Ram, 2020, etc.), combining these two fields and especially adding women from ethnic minority is very rare in scientific researches.The aim of the paper is to highlight challenges and possibilities of social entrepreneurship for empowerment of women from ethnic minority.This paper is based on Erasmus+ project “Empowering Women from Ethnic Minorities Through Social Enterprises” (abbrev. EMwoSE) analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data retrieved in Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania and Turkey. International data gives to the paper additional value in picturing the bigger picture of the situation in European countries.However, women starting a social enterprise is itself contributing to women’s empowerment, assuming that social enterprise can be culturally more acceptable for women from ethnic minorities
