Restorative Architecture at the Shelburne Museum
No full textElectra Havemeyer Webb founded the Shelburne Museum of Shelburne, Vermont in 1947 as a way to preserve her family’s long lineage of material collections. Described by Electra as a, “collection of collections… an education project varied and alive,” the museum stands today as a relic of New England attracting thousands of visitors annually. Electra married into the Vanderbilt family and spent the rest of her time with the museum deconstructing historic buildings from around the region and reconstructing them on the campus of the museum. From historic inns to homesteads, steamships to lighthouses, a presidential steam train car to a school house, the campus is packed with history and beautiful architecture frozen in time. In order to upkeep such a large collection of artifacts and historic buildings, it requires a dedicated team of specialists. This paper explores how I was able to contribute to such a profound institution through my role as a carpenter\u27s apprentice doing restorative architecture in Summer 2024

No full textDuring my summer internship at Lenskart, I worked with the brand marketing and growth team to delve into how data drives marketing initiatives. Under the guidance of experienced professionals at Lenskart, Asia\u27s leading eyewear brand, and with insights from Professor Jason Nier, I aimed to understand the impact of data-driven strategies on consumer experience and business growth. I focused on analyzing how tech marketing tools, such as Product Recommendation Engines and the Frame Size tool, alongside digital marketing initiatives, influenced social media engagement, traffic, follower metrics, and sales. In this paper, I have included my analysis of a four-week report from the month of May, where I compared key metrics to assess the effectiveness of various marketing efforts.
This experience gave me valuable insights into how data and marketing together could transform Lenskart from a startup into an industry leader. I learned how data-driven decisions not only enhance consumer satisfaction and loyalty but also support business scalability and profitability
Watching Together and Watching Alone: An Examination of Audience Aesthetic and Affective Reception of a Short Film
Get PDFThis research investigated the differences between participants’ affective response and recollection of a film, comparing two conditions, watching it alone at home (n = 21) or in an auditorium with an audience (n = 28). Participants were asked to view the short film, The Neighbors’ Window, and answer questions about the emotions they experienced during the filming, plot points and favorite moments, as well as whether any personal memories were elicited. After two weeks, they were contacted again and asked to respond to the post viewing questions again. Contrary to hypotheses, it was revealed that in the two week follow-up responses, those who streamed The Neighbors’ Window at home alone had significantly higher “engaged’ and “moved” responses. Those who streamed at home also, in the two week follow up, reported a significantly higher frequency of elicited personal memories from the short film in comparison to those who watched it in the cinema treatment. Lastly, a significant positive correlation was found across the sample between both the electronic viewing habits and the “moved” factor, as well as the streaming with others habit and the “engaged” factor. These findings are discussed in context of the limits of the research, including a decrease of ecological validity in the cinema treatment, as well as COVID’s possible role in changing the normal film viewing experience for college-aged students. Recommendations for future research are provided

No full textDesegregateCT is a non-profit organization with a coalition of neighbors and nonprofits advocating for the pro-homes movement. DesegregateCT is based in Connecticut and is a program of Regional Plan Association. My role for Summer 2024 was to be an Organizing Intern for this organization. In this role, I conducted election research, participated in grant writing, and organized a Transit-Oriented Community (TOC) Walk Audit in Groton, CT. Through this experience, I was able to connect to local lawmakers in the Eastern Region of Connecticut and continue to foster my public service relationship in the greater New London community

No full textOver the summer, I had the opportunity to intern at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens as a Public Horticulture Intern. A majority of my time was spent in the gardens expanding my range of horticultural skills including planting, mulching, weeding, deadheading, watering, pruning, designing, and transplanting. The internship provided me with countless opportunities to further hone my research skills and horticultural skills, work with butterflies and moths, expand my set of sustainable gardening practices, and continue to work directly with the public in such a gorgeous and thriving location.
