Mohegan Tribal Historic Preservation Office, Field Technician

    No full text
I worked a 6-week summer internship at the Mohegan Tribal Historic Preservation Office. Most of the internship was spent working in the field, digging shovel test pits and looking for archaeological sites in places planned for construction. When we weren\u27t digging, we were cleaning, identifying, and cataloging artifacts. The artifacts that we cleaned and cataloged were both excavated in the field and from collections donated to the Tantaquidgeon Museum. Coworkers had varying levels of archaeological/curatorial experience. I would recommend this internship to anybody in the museum studies certificate program or any archaeology concentration major

    The Narni Music Festival

    No full text
This reflection paper explores Thayer Green’s transformative experience participating in the Narnia Festival, an international performing arts program held in Narni, Italy. Originally planning to attend with a faculty mentor, Thayer navigated the unexpected challenge of traveling and performing alone when the mentor became ill. Through intensive rehearsals, performances, and cross-cultural collaboration in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Thayer gained invaluable artistic, professional, and personal growth. The paper reflects on the development of time management, adaptability, and communication skills, and highlights the impact of a liberal arts education in preparing for high-level international performance. It concludes with reflections on newfound confidence, a deepened commitment to opera, and future career goals involving international artistic work and potential study abroad opportunities

    My Time At Tippett

    No full text
This summer, I spent five and a half weeks at Tippett Studio, an animation and visual effects company led by Oscar and Emmy Award-winning Phil Tippett. I had the incredible opportunity to be on-site at their location in Berkeley, California, where I got to observe and work alongside professional artists and animators. While the bulk of my work time was committed to the studio’s ongoing archiving project, a large portion of what I gained from this experience was just learning how to live on my own. As a part of working at this studio, I had to sign an NDA. This was a new experience for me, and I was super excited to find out what the big project that they were working on was. My work at the studio consisted of working on their archiving project. They have a seemingly infinite amount of old binders, folders, portfolios, slides, photographs, even maquettes and sculptures from both old and never-finished projects and movies that have yet to be digitized in any way. In my five and a half weeks there I think I barely made a dent, even though I took thousands of pictures

A Summer Working in New London as an Educator and Research Assistant

    No full text
This summer I was fortunate enough to stay in New London as I completed multiple internships. I was able to work with Professor Vallye as a research assistant on a Mellon Foundation grant project called A Right to Housing: Case Study Connecticut. I also had the opportunity to work with the New London County Historical Society for their summer discovery program as an educator. Both of these opportunities helped me learn about the community here in New London and explore other options of what I would like to do with my major in the future. I am very grateful for the chance to work with people so knowledgeable and educated in their fields

This reflection summarizes my internship experience with Challenging Heights, a child protection NGO in Ghana, completed through the Walter Commons Bessell Fellowship Program. My primary objectives were to gain professional exposure to nonprofit research and advocacy while immersing myself in a new cultural environment. Working with the Research and Development team, I analyzed monitoring and evaluation datasets, supported policy-oriented projects, and participated in field visits to schools and shelters. These tasks strengthened my skills in data analysis, organization, communication, and cultural adaptability

    Ipswich River Watershed Association Internship

    No full text
This summer, I interned at the Ipswich River Watershed Association (hereby referred at IRWA) in Ipswich, Massachusetts as their Kerry Mackin Intern, which was focused on environmental education. Over the summer, my responsibilities were focused around planning and executing fun and engaging environmental experiences for local school and youth groups to teach them about river ecosystems and water conservation. During the 12 weeks I worked at IRWA, I enhanced my trip leading skills, curriculum and activity development, and had many extra opportunities to learn from professionals in my office about a variety of tasks important to a small environmental non-profit. Some of these experiences included a visit to the Massachusetts State House, invasive plant removal in the Great Marsh, networking events with other environmental non-profits, and more
