A5_7 Laser Pool
In this paper we ask the question of how feasible the concept of laser pool would be (using a laser instead of a pool cue). The laser is initially considered to be of comparable diameter to that of the ball, and is compared to a more focused beam. The geometry of the system is considered in detail, calculating how much photon momentum is transferred to the ball. We find the required laser power is approximately 3 × 1023W for the wide laser, and 5 × 1010W for the focused laser
A2_4 Murderous leaf
Can a regular leaf prove to be fatal for a human being if Earth were to switch its wind speed with the planet Uranus? In this paper fundamental physics is applied, and the time taken for a leaf to pierce through the skin to reach the bones is calculated to be 0.29 s if it travels a distance of 11.6 m. The air resistance faced by the leaf is 0.162 N which is expected to be a small value sinceit is proportional to the area of the object
P1_11 Bullseye!
The farthest archery target hit ever was achieved from a distance of 330 m. In this paper we estimated that a shot of this distance would require a force of 100 N (2 s.f) to be achieved. We conclude it is within human capabilities to improve on this record but ensuring the accuracy of the shot so the target is actually hit poses a challenge to any who try to break the record
A5_6 The Holdo Maneuver
The Holdo Maneuver was a suicidal battle tactic employed by Vice-Admiral Amilyn Holdo in the movie Star Wars: the Last Jedi, in which she rammed the Raddus into another spaceship to destroy it. In this paper we will find the relativistic kinetic energy imparted onto Holdo’s target to be 1.9×1029 J. Using this number, we will discuss and compare the efficacy of such a maneuver to a superweapon like the planet destroying Death Star and will find that it would take ≈ 1000 simultaneous Holdo Maneuvers to completely destroy a planet of similar size to the Earth
A4_2 Horn to Kill
In this paper, the level of sound from a car horn required to halt an incoming car travelling at a regular speed in an emergency was calculated. This required level was found to be approximately 240 dB, a sound 10^14 times louder than a regular 100 dB car horn. This level of noise would cause a large amount damage to both vehicles involved
Could Sleeping Beauty have been a haemophiliac?
In the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty pricks her finger on a spindle and due to a curse placed on her as a baby, falls to sleep for a hundred years. Here we explore the ramifications of a scenario where instead of a curse, Sleeping Beauty has haemophilia and cuts her finger at age seventeen. We first establish that to have reached her age without modern medicine, it is most likely the princess has a mild form of the disease. A model is then constructed resulting in the conclusion that if Sleeping Beauty was a haemophiliac, a relatively minor cut to her hand left untreated would be sufficient for her to ‘fall into a slumber’ as in the story or, put simply, faint
Is it possible for Izuku Midoriya to inherit All Might’s powers by consuming his hair?
This paper researches the scientific link between hair and DNA. This paper attempts to investigate the possibility that Izuku Midoriya inherited his superpowers by consuming his teacher’s hair. The paper will identify the biological factors of hair DNA. Based on the evidence from this study, it is impossible to gain power by consuming one’s hair due to the acid in the stomach which breaks down the DNA into small molecules and the pH for the small intestine is between 6-7.5 which is hard to break the bonds in the hair molecular which is the keratin
P2_3 Balloon Ovens
In this paper we investigate the amount of energy which can be extracted from a balloon which has built up charge due to the Contact Electrification. We then investigate the possibility of using charged balloons to generate enough electricity to cook a whole chicken. We found that 3.0 × 1010 balloons would be needed to cook the chicken so it would be safe for consumption. We conclude that the electricity generated from electrically charged balloons likely has no practical application

Whilst the main theory of the asteroid belt’s origin is left over remnants from when the protoplan- etary disc formed our Solar System, on theory is a destroyed planet: Phaeton. This paper aims to explore the characteristics of such a planet forming from the asteroids in the main belt. It is found to have a density of 2188.8 kg/m3, a radius of 6.4 × 105 m, orbital period of 1620.2 days, and an eccentricity of 0.2
