A qualitative case study on variation orders of project management team efficiency in a naval ship construction company
in terms of cost and delayed schedules. This study discovered a four-year schedule delay and an increment up to Ringgit Malaysia (RM) 2.4 billion in Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) ship building project cost. Next, this study determined the contributing factors and impact of VOs on the efficiency of LCS Project Management Team (PMT). A standard operating procedures (SOPs) framework is proposed in this study to reduce VOs for ship building project management. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews held with 12 respondents from LCS PMT selected using the purposive sampling method. The data were analysed using NVIVO software. The six contributing factors to VO occurrences were project financial problems, changes in project scope by client, delay in decision-making, insufficient project drawings, low adherence to ship building project management processes, and inadequate management personnel with ship building experience. The VOs affected the efficiency of LCS PMT in terms of negative management evaluations, declining morale, poor job search, and additional workload. The eight measures that the ship building company management can deploy to reduce VOs in LCS projects are training on VO management for PMT, developing SOPs for VO management, management support, adherence to ship building project management processes, design authority support, reducing the number of ship class standard, ship building process integration, and clear understanding of LCS contract. This study adds to the body of knowledge by identifying the factors of VOs and framework to develop SOPs that lists PMT work process in ship building project management for the industry. The theory of constraints was expanded by highlighting the factor of VOs that hindered the success of PMT
The relationship of strategic network partner fit characteristics, open innovation and organisational performance of small and medium enterprises in Malaysia
Effectively planning for market turbulence and working with partners, as well as focusing on strategic network partner fit characteristics and open innovation are critical to small and medium enterprises success. However, this practice is lacking among Malaysian small and medium enterprises. Poor selection of partner qualities and delay in the implementation of open innovation influence firm’s performance. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the impact of strategic network partner fit characteristics and open innovation on the performance of small and medium enterprises, and the moderating role of open innovation on the relationship between the strategic network partner fit characteristics and the performance. Interorganisational relationships and resource-based theories underpinned the proposed model. Online questionnaires were distributed to 500 small and medium-sized owners or managers of multiple sub-sectors with 123 data were successfully collected. Data were analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling via SmartPLS.mThis study found that strategic network partner fit characteristics and open innovation had a positive and significant impact on small and medium enterprises performance. In addition, open innovation moderates the relationship between strategic network partner fit characteristics and the performance of small and medium enterprises. This study helps to support small and medium enterprises in selecting the right network partners to reduce costs and minimize risks of local and international activities. Strengthened by inter-organisational relationship and resource-based theories, the model, open innovation (inbound and outbound) moderates the characteristics of strategic network partner fit (complementarity, compatibility and commitment) to enhance small and medium enterprises performance

Key performance measurement of green third party logistics towards manufacturing sector in Penang Island Malaysia
Globally, there is an observable surge of interest in the logistics industry, giving rise to stiff competition among third-party logistics (3PLs) service providers as matters become more competitive daily. Currently, the Malaysian logistics sector concentrates on logistics operation outsourcing and the development of 3PLs. In recent times, environmental challenges have attracted large attention from both academic and industrial circles. Going by these environmental challenges, business organizations, such as manufacturing firms, are potentially a major source of competitive advantage. In Malaysia, the manufacturing sector is a major contributor to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, it is also a significant contributing factor to environmental deterioration and pollution. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the degree to which sustainability is part of 3PLs and manufacturing firms’ strategy relative to green transport operations and assess the moderating impact of new innovation practices in the logistics operations of 3PLs services. A quantitative method of research using a questionnaire was administered to 333 managers and senior staff of randomly selected 3PLs logistics companies online. The results showed that innovative green logistics moderate the relationship between packaging services and operational performance. Likewise, the interaction of warehousing services with the innovation of green logistics moderates the relationship between warehousing services and financial performance. This study’s finding from the perspective of establishing innovation in green logistics as a moderating factor in the relationship between 3PLs service provider’s key performance factors and green logistics in the manufacturing industry of Malaysia is significant. All of these can be impactful in achieving the related goals eighth and ninth goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the 2030 Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV), respectively. It is recommended that further studies on the moderating effect of innovative green logistics can be explored using more comprehensive quantitative methods
Tradisi dan inovasi dalam kursus ulum hadith: Analisis terhadap penerimaan pelajar Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Swasta (IPTS)
The teaching and learning methodology (P&P) in Ulum hadith scholars is usually applied traditionally since the existence of this discipline in the tabi'in era. However, the advancement of digital technology has prompted innovation in teaching methodology, including hadith studies in higher education institutions (IPT). Nonetheless, the growth of digital technology has sparked innovation in teaching methodology, including hadith studies at higher education institutions (IPT). The transformation of technology in education has impacted lecturers’ teaching methodology, lesson content, teaching aids and students’ learning methods. This study aims to identify the traditional and innovative methods of teaching and learning as well as analyse the level of understanding and acceptance of students involving the aspects of context, input, process and product in the evaluation of a hadith course based on the Context-Input-Process-Product (CIPP) Model presented by Stufflebeam in 1968. Data was collected through interviews, observation and document analysis involving 13 lecturers and 18 students from three IPTS in North Malaysia. The data were analysed using ATLAS.ti version 8 software, content analysis and comparative methods. The results of the study found that implementing Ulum Hadith course from the context dimension is compatible with the objectives of the CLO course. From the input dimension, the facilities such as the library and lecture rooms as well as the lecturer's pedagogical knowledge and mastery of hadith studies are in good condition. The process dimension demonstrates that teaching and learning implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and connection between lecturers and students are all in good condition. The utilisation of teaching aids and lecturers' cooperation with administrators is moderate. From the product dimension, the aspects of impact, effectiveness, sustainability and transferability are positive. The study’s findings indicate a need for in-service training to improve lecturers' competence. Students’ mastery of hadith needs to be improved as well. The findings of this study could assist lecturers in improving the quality of their teaching and learning. Increasing the level of competency in teaching and learning methodology can help address the issue of lecturer incompetence while facilitating student acceptance more effectively
The linking of service quality, trust, and innovation toward taxpayer’s satisfaction
The provision of quality government services is becoming increasingly important, and the public sector is striving to match private companies when delivering exceptional services. The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) is central in providing direct services to clients on tax matters. However, concerns have been raised about the quality of services the IRBM provides. This study examines the relationships between service quality, customer trust, and taxpayer satisfaction with IRBM and the mediating influence of innovation on these linkages. A quantitative research design was employed in this study. A total of 384 questionnaires were distributed to Malaysian taxpayers in eight IRBM Northern Region branches. The data were analyzed using partial least squares – structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 3. The results reveal a significant relationship between service quality, customer trust, and taxpayer satisfaction with IRBM. Higher service quality directly increases satisfaction, while higher customer trust leads to higher taxpayer satisfaction with IRBM services. Moreover, innovation acts as a mediator and influences the impact of service quality and customer trust on taxpayer satisfaction with IRBM services. Fostering innovation in service delivery enhances service quality, builds customer trust, and boosts customer satisfaction with IRBM. As for practical implications, stakeholders should make informed decisions and implement effective strategies to improve service quality, foster customer trust, and ultimately enhance taxpayers’ satisfaction with IRBM. In terms of theoretical implications, the present research applies the Expectation Disconfirmation Theory in the proposed framework and discovered significant relationships between service quality, customer trust, and taxpayer satisfaction with IRBM. Another important discovery concerns the mediation of innovations in these relationships
The compensation claim of the criminal offences under the law of the United Arab Emirates
This study deals with the subject of civil lawsuit arising from a criminal offence, or what is known as the lawsuit for compensation in a criminal offence. The compensation suit is a suit filed by the victim of the crime to redress the damage inflicted on him because of the violation of his right. The Criminal Procedures Law of the United Arab Emirates No. (35) of 1992 AD and its amendments, through its articles and texts, regulate the procedures for filing the lawsuit and the consequences of the civil lawsuit arising from the criminal offence. The problem was that the UAE Criminal Procedures Law did not stipulate in its articles the rights of the person affected by the crime, i.e., the victim, or the mechanism that should be relied upon to claim compensation before the competent court due to this crime. In addition, the law did not indicate the legal reason for the civil action that should be relied upon when filing a compensation claim before the competent court. The study objectives are to identify the legal controls applied to traditional crimes in the Emirates, to study the statement of victims' rights to compensation for damage from the crime, and to examine the position of international law regarding compensation for criminal damage. This study will primarily benefit judges, lawyers, prosecutors and individuals affected by criminal offences. Adopting a qualitative method, the researcher used the analytical descriptive approach of the laws related to the subject of the research together with the comparative approach to reach the objectives. The finding indicates that the legal basis for the civil lawsuit is the damage caused by the crime, and anyone who sustained damage from it may claim civil rights during the investigation into the case. In the end, the study recommended the UAE legislator enact relevant provisions that clarify certain criteria for persons affected by the crime and entitled to claim compensation

Information technology investments and firm performance: The interacting effect of it governance
In recent times, investment in information technology (IT) has become indispensable in any company. Proper management of IT investment may create value for the company and improve its performance. However, companies face problems in choosing the right IT investment decision that improves companies' performance. Subsequently, the objective of the study was to investigate the effects of IT investment on companies’ performance in Malaysia. In addition, it examined further whether this effect was interacted by IT governance mechanisms such as CEO career horizon, CEO gender, CEO IT background, board IT training, government-linked companies and foreign-owned firms. This study employed the dynamic panel estimation technique, the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM), that considered the endogeneity nature of the performance model. The GMM analysis was based on data from 231 publicly listed companies in Bursa Malaysia between 2010 and 2019. It revealed a positive and non-significant association between IT investment and firm performance. Furthermore, the IT governance mechanisms (i.e., CEO career horizon, CEO gender, CEO IT background, board IT training, government-linked companies, and foreign-owned firms) were found to significantly enhance the positive association between IT investment and firm performance. Thus, the findings of this study have both theoretical and practical implications. The results provided empirical evidence on the direct impact of IT investment on firm performance. In addition, the indirect impact may serve as an indication for firms to understand IT governance mechanisms and its interaction effects between IT investment and firm performance. These would enhance the awareness of professionals, the board of directors and management in the critical role of IT governance practices and in ascertaining that firm’s IT investment is properly governed
Augmented reality ARC welding learning application to enhance student’s motivation
This study introduces a mobile application integrated with augmented reality that can be used by Mechanical Engineering students to learn welding subject. Moreover, a study of perception among a sample of respondents who have used the app has been conducted. Normally, students will learn the theoretical concepts of welding in the class followed by instruction-based training in the workshop. However, students have difficulty to follow everything that has been taught in the class in a limited time. Welding is dangerous for beginners and the welding environments are harmful and injurious to the health. Furthermore, the preliminary study revealed that the students lacked sufficient materials to assist them during revision and need additional materials for welding learning. This study proposes the Mobile Arc Welding Learning (MAWL) app which use mobile app integrated with augmented reality technology to study user’s perceptions based on ease of use, engagement, learnability, satisfaction and usefulness. The research methodology in this study was adapted from Kuechler and Vaishnavi which consists of five phases: awareness of problems, suggestions, development, evaluation, and conclusion. The study incorporates the ARCS motivation model and constructivist theory to provide effective learning material. The evaluation results showed that the independent variables (Engagement, Satisfaction and Usefulness) are significantly related to the dependent variable (motivation). The results of the perception study indicate that the users strongly agreed on ease of use, learnability, satisfaction, usefulness and motivation, while they agreed on engagement. The main contribution of this study is the MAWL app which is a supplementary learning tool with the purpose to motivate students in welding learning. The results show that the ARCS motivation model and constructivist theory can be applied to develop effective learning materials found in the Mobile Arc Welding Learning (MAWL) app. Besides that, engagement, satisfaction and usefulness have positive influence on motivation. Thus, when designing and developing AR mobile-based welding learning app, factors including engagement, satisfaction and usefulness need to be integrated into the app to improve the student’s motivation towards the tool
